She is a working royal. This means she is publicly funded to perform official engagements such as patronages, national commemorations, and representing the UK both at home and abroad. Being unavailable refers to the significant reduction in these public-facing commitments

So, here’s a list of the official engagements Kate has undertaken this year so far. Perhaps you can clarify what big events and representation opportunities she has missed?

Quite. It’s not like Kate just woke up on Saturday and decided to do the Three Peaks that day and had a team, logistics plan, video, essay and landing page on the Royal Marsden website all ready to go.

It’s the same as people who think teachers stop working when the children go home!

They are more criticised by lack of working than being poor parents. The only time they were really roasted is when Louis misbehaved publicly and pointed fingers at Catherine, which made people question if Catherine, who seems, to be studying early years, was really raising them. Other than that, I don't see people asking for Catherine to stay more at home, the complaints are actually the contrary, that she's lazy and spoiled.

I was responding to a post which said the queen and Charles understand their duties and carry them out properly, or some such. They are the ones who get roasted for not spending time with their children.

Thanks so much to Kate, for making me aware of what cancer is…what ever would we do without it? 🙄

If she really wanted to raise cancer awareness she have been visiting cancer wards and making appearances at fundraising events. That kind of thing does so much more than any mountain trek with an helicopter flying her around. It wouldn't take much for her to help highlight which hospitals have cancer wards and which organisations need donations. Or make organzie money from her billionaire husband for bigger projects.

@OneFancyBird Thanks so much to Kate, for making me aware of what cancer is…what ever would we do without it?

Catherine's actual words were:
"Through this challenge, I want to raise awareness for the deeper impact of serious illness and the importance of holistic healthcare"

Holistic healthcare provides a comprehensive, individualized approach to health that considers patients‘ physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. It is an approach to healthcare that is increasingly being embraced to improve patient outcomes while having a positive environmental impact.

A lot of posters here with no idea about how the duchys work.

Firstly, they are not run by William and Charles, they have boards who make the decisions collectively and in accordance with the rules set down by parliament as to how they operate.

Under these rules, they are required to rent out their land at commercial rates. Parliament has passed laws requiring that, and Treasury policies it. From HMT’s Memorandum about them approving the Duchy’s transactions:
When assessing proposed large property transactions under s11 of the Act,
the Treasury seeks evidence that the terms are commercial. Helpful indicators include:
• for sales, competition among potential purchasers and at settlement prices in
line with estate agents’ guide prices;
• for investment and development projects, actual or expected returns at market
level

Also, it is not good governance for charities to operate on a non-commercial basis - that becomes a large financial stability risk for them (what if they need to move and cannot find a new property for free?). So if they enter into leases, the charity commission expects them to be at appropriate commercial rates.

As for theft - most of Charles’ assets come from Blanche of Lancaster marrying John of Gaunt in 1359. She was a considerable heiress as the sole surviving child of her father the Earl of Lancaster. Their son Henry Bolingbroke, later Henry IV, inherited them in turn from his mother, and they had been part of the sovereign’s estate ever since. So no, not stolen.

Well actually
The origin of the Lancaster lands is a fascinating story of royal favouritism and political confiscation. It traces back to the aftermath of the Second Barons’ War in the 1260s.
The estate that would become the Duchy of Lancaster originated in 1265, when Henry III granted his younger son, Edmund Crouchback, lands confiscated from Simon de Montfort, Earl of Leicester, who had led the baronial rebellion against the crown. The following year, the estates of Robert de Ferrers, 6th Earl of Derby — another leading figure in that same conflict — were added to the holdings. In 1267, the estate was formally constituted as the County, Honour, and Castle of Lancaster. Wikipedia
So the foundational answer is: the lands were essentially the spoils of a defeated rebellion, handed by a king to his own son.
From there, the inheritance grew through a combination of family succession and lucky acquisition:

  • Thomas of Lancaster (Edmund’s son and Henry of Grosmont’s uncle) acquired a rich inheritance from his father and through an advantageous marriage to Alice de Lacy, 4th Countess of Lincoln, making him the wealthiest peer in England — but his quarrels with Edward II led to his execution in 1322. Since Thomas died childless, his titles and estates passed to his younger brother Henry, the 3rd Earl. English Monarchs
  • When Alice de Lacy herself died in 1348, her life holdings — which she had retained after Thomas’s execution — including the Honour of Bolingbroke and Bolingbroke Castle, then passed to Henry of Grosmont. Wikipedia
  • In 1284, Edmund had also received the Manor of Savoy in London from his mother, Eleanor of Provence. Wikipedia
So in short: the Lancaster fortune was built on royal gift-giving (Henry III rewarding his son with rebels’ forfeited lands), compounded by a strategic marriage (to Alice de Lacy), and further enriched as those properties eventually reverted back to the main Lancastrian line. So, yes stolen.

Henry of Grosmont, 1st Duke of Lancaster

Henry of Lancaster was born circa 1300 at Grosmont Castle in Monmouthshire, he was the only son of Henry and Maud Chaworth

myrtleWilson · 29/06/2026 20:44

OneFancyBird thinks that Kate is a bully so why on earth would OFB want Kate visitng cancer wards to presumably bully sick patients.

Am not entirely sure what a campaign to list which hospitals have cancer wards would achieve. I'm going to make a kind assumption that OFB was suggesting that the publication of cancer wards was to recommend people volunteer. Would they not just be deluged with potential volunteers turning up or ringing up wanting to volunteer. Perhaps this is another example of Kate's chilling approach to bullying -swamping cancer wards with calls from prospective volunteers to the point that care collapses - a top level bully move Kate.

I join with others to wait what organizie money is - I don't really even understand bitcoin so if organzie money is a new thing I may have to tap out.

Just the small matter of being racist to her sister in law and her and her husband throwing them under the bus to suit themselves…

Absolute bollocks! Megan sat and LIED (proven lies) in the Oprah interview.
I liked her in the beginning. Thought she was nice. Then saw that interview and couldn't believe what I was seeing. It was so so so disappointing. She's a nasty lying cow.

MageKing · 29/06/2026 20:59

I am always bemused by the shouting that she doesn't work hard enough.

She is a woman who is wealthy via family money, and who married a very wealthy man. She has three children who, i think its pretty clear, she take a very active role in parenting (vs outsourcing it as her grandmother in law did). One assumes she has all the social expectations of a woman in her position, which, ridiculous as it may seem to the rest of us, is nonetheless a "thing".

Meanwhile she also does a wide variety of expected events and appearances, not all of which are public (meeting Melinda French gates this week, for example).

And for these events, I am confident that for every hour she spends at one, there's time spent in prep and planning. Last week at a corporate event I attended with many of my colleagues, you might have thought it was jist a jolly with free drinks and food. But the hours and hours we spent working on it were invisible. Even our ceo, who obviously was not involved in the logistics, would have spent st least 3-4 hours prepping - the initial brief where she gave approval to go ahead, the mid-way meeting to discuss where we needed her to assert some influence to get some specific guests, the week when before we worked with her on her speech and presentation and the day before when the head of client relations took her through key guests, messaging and any issues. Then of course the event itself.

Dont get me.wrong, I dont think she's working 50 hout weeks, juggling multiple tasks and worrying about deadlines, but shes not "just" doing the hours we see. And quite frankly, the hours she must spend just on hair, make up, clothing decisions... practically a full time job in itself.

Well, forfeited rather than stolen, no? That's the gamble you took in those days, the rebels were fighting for more power - and they'd have taken full advantage of that power had they succeeded.

Exactly. People also forget that Catherine could choose to do nothing. She doesn't receive a salary in her own right. She also has no constitutional role or legal obligation to carry out royal duties.

Frankly, after everything she has endured in the public eye over the past 25 years—before, during, and after her cancer—I don't blame her if she chooses to continue supporting the monarchy on terms that prioritize her health and her children. That's a perfectly reasonable choice.
