Prior to being instrumental in getting Epstein off charges? Even the DoJ criticised the sentence.
Of course AMW is responsible for his behaviour but bear in mind his mother who he repeatedly said was the only person he would answer to, KNEW there were problems. They were bought to her time and time again and she dismissed them
She wasn't just any woman

There is always a woman to blame behind every horrible male. That’s how I see it when you blame AMW’s mother for his bad behavior.

Have you read Andrew Lownie's book 'Entitled'? If you have, you will have seen that there were many, many concerns directed to the Palace about his behaviour over the years he was Trade Envoy. It was only when a small number of veterans wrote to her, that she finally took action and removed him. His brother, the Prince of Wales, expressed reservations about his suitability for the role but was overridden by his mother.
She was also Head of State right up until her death. Maybe she should have stepped down if she felt unable to fulfil her duties in that role.

It's almost like we're talking about Andy's mum.who lives down the road!

@NotTalkinBoutTheLinen
No I don't think she did. This was what they said in Nov 2019 following the Newsnight interview.

"It is emphatically denied that The Duke of York had any form of sexual contact or relationship with Virginia Roberts [Giuffre]. Any claim to the contrary is false and without foundation."
They smeared her and have never retracted that statement - despite Camilla's and Sophie's admirable campaigning against violence against women and girls.

He emphatically denied it. We know that. He’s a disgusting figure and we know that also.

What we don’t know is what his family and particularly his mother was told or believed.

The US investigators that she was a problematic witness and they felt there was no chance he’d be convicted.

We also know he was not in favor of settling. Had HMQ not forced the settlement VG would have had no acknowledgement whatsoever.

There was no justice; that’s obvious. But that settlement was the closest thing to acknowledgement she was going to get in the case of AMW and that only happened because of the Queen.

Decacaffeinatednow · 06/07/2026 21:05

that only happened because of the Queen.

I would say that only happened because Charles and William told her forcefully that something had to be done. It was Platty Jubes year after all and nobody wanted that to be more tainted by one of her children than it had already been.

CathyorClaire · 06/07/2026 21:06

And only when one of her royal parties AKA jubilee was going to be threatened did she pay off the victim

Not just her.

I'd like to know who contributed to the whip-round...

simpsonthecat · 06/07/2026 21:07

Oh yes, they passed the hat round to get him out of deep 💩

I wonder what they talked about at her weekly visits with her Prime Ministers?
David Cameron, Teresa May, Boris Johnson... Did none of them bring up the subject of her son's behaviour?

Probably true that C&W convinced her finally that the smoke actually meant fire.

Decacaffeinatednow · 06/07/2026 21:10

Yes, and her legacy has been tainted by her lack of action.

Decacaffeinatednow · 06/07/2026 21:10

And obviously Philip is equally to blame - I am sure Liz didn't decide all that on her own but her word was final when it came to state matters.

Id love to know as well. Sincerely doubt it.

People likely just thought he was having consensual sex with willing participants. Not trafficked young women. We didn’t even use that term back then.

Look at Michael Jackson. Even after the first viable accusations people just thought he was being blackmailed.

Decacaffeinatednow · 06/07/2026 21:16

In 2019 trafficked women were absolutely known about. And BP knew that. And yet that statement was issued. And without a doubt his mother approved it.

I’m talking before then. Not when the settlement was made.

Decacaffeinatednow · 06/07/2026 21:29

The settlement was made in 2022.
In 2019 BP issued their statement about Virginia Guiffre.

Decacaffeinatednow · 06/07/2026 21:30

So are you saying that in 2019 it was news to the RF that women were trafficked and sexually abused?

simpsonthecat · 06/07/2026 21:31

The term sex trafficking has been used since at least 2000 when an Act was brought in the US known as Victims of Trafficking.

No, I got confused by the mention David Cameron and thought you meant they should have known from long prior.

Decacaffeinatednow · 06/07/2026 21:35

Ah ok. He was PM when AMW was appointed Trade Envoy.
He has been conspicuously silent on the whole issue.

NotTalkinBoutTheLinen · 06/07/2026 21:35

@Decacaffeinatednow Do you believe HMQ knew Andrew was engaging with trafficked women and just didn’t mind?

simpsonthecat · 06/07/2026 21:36

Please let's not try and excuse the Monarchy of having no idea about procuring girls for sex acts, Epstein was originally charged in 2006 for soliciting minors for prostitution. That didn't stop the Yorks schmoozing him continually and SF calling him her supreme friend!
The Royals will have the best legal advice probably in the UK and abroad... they can't be that unknowing.

@NotTalkinBoutTheLinen
Actually yes I do. As did many of the people who worked in BP at the time and who knew what he was like. Jeffrey Epstein was convicted in 2009 and yet was at Beatrice's 18th birthday party at Windsor Castle.
Do you not think that the people at the highest levels of intelligence (I use that word loosely) and police would have been aware of his conviction?

Edited

I just don’t believe she did.

I didn’t know that about the birthday party though. Disgusting.

IAmATorturedPoet · 06/07/2026 21:44

Well, we’ll never really know how much she did or didn’t know. The most people can do is speculate and rake over the same old stuff.

FWIW I don’t think she had the full picture, the government certainly did though.

Decacaffeinatednow · 06/07/2026 21:49

Yeah, I guess raking over the same old stuff achieves nothing eh?
No lessons to be learned, nothing to see here, just move on...
