The ongoing dramas from Montecito courtesy of H&M.

I can’t see another thread but I made the same mistake last time …

I don’t think he hates and fears the media at all, what he hates is that he can’t control it.

drivinmecrazy · 12/05/2026 12:34

What leapt out to me with these pictures is that the focus is always on Megan.
the children are secondary and Harry is irrelevant.

This. I'm listening to Rob Schuter and he said H thoroughly enjoyed Australia and considers it a huge success. He is striving to be the next Diana and he believes he's universally adored

I'm always struck linguistically by how often she frames talking about familial love as "X loves me SO MUCH". She's definitely done it with both H and A ("Nobody told me how much boys just love their mothers!").

That’s exactly what I thought too.

I'm not a betting woman, but if I were, I'd put quite a lot of money on there being a constant friction between H&M on exposing the children. I think he genuinely hates and fears the media, and is too dim to see how reliant he is (especially these days) on it, thinking (if you can call it that) that he's still the same media catch as he was in WRF days.

M I would bet is absolutely champing at the bit to find ways to monetise the children, and it's only H's revulsion at the idea that even reins her in slightly.

In terms of their lifestyle, I think the security is the joint obsession, though in her case more status-driven and his more just what he grew up with. The luxury of the accommodation is driven by her (he has described the time he spent in Iraq/Afghanistan, in blistering heat living in shipping containers as the happiest time of his life) but the seclusion and lack of profile by him.

That Alison Boshoff article said (IIRC) he'd be perfectly happy living somewhere much more remote and genuinely private, but she absolutely wouldn't. I do hope for their sake that they can each live with the compromises they've made for the other, but it has to be about how they keep the show on the road financially, which I guess is far more M's domain than H's.

I agree with all of your post except for this. I think, like Diana, Harry is very much a 'townie'. And like his wife, he often eagerly seeks out the media. I think he'd hate the idea of a quiet life in the country.

Going back to the sofa some posters may recall the late Alan Clark MP sneering that Michael Heseltine was a man who bought his own furniture.
Raiding the attic and getting something restored really wouldn’t have social cachet for Meghan or probably most Americans. It’s definitely a thing in certain social circles in the UK though. The sofa doesn’t have to be saggy and threadbare and covered in dog hair.
Though I suspect W&C bought new sofas for Anmer hall and wherever - they have enough other antiques and valuable paintings to make a tasteful mix.

The sofa thing is interesting.

I would love to have some good quality, old, inherited furniture (to the point where I actually buy some 1930s stuff second-hand which reminds me of my grandmother's nicer bits - now sadly lost).

However, I would absolutely want new sofas (in a traditional style) to go with it. Elderly sofas just don't cut it from a comfort point of view, imo - unless they've been refurbished to an extent which leaves precious little of the original item left.

A sitting room with a slightly eclectic collection of old furniture sounds wonderful to me. But (for once) I can really sympathise with Meghan for wanting a modern-built sofa for actually lounging about on. I can't sympathise with the resentment at having to pay for it, though.

Harry might be happy living in the country but he seems desperate for an audience - he truly believes that people are interested in his ‘thoughts’ about parenting, online safety and world events, it is really bizarre. Especially when you consider how dim and uninformed he is. He really thinks that being a prince somehow magically confers weight and relevance to his words, even though in reality it’s banal AI drivel and often rooted in spectacular ignorance or his own selfish agenda.

Sorry to derail again, but honestly, look on Ebay and FB Marketplace. You can pick up decent quality "brown furniture" for peanuts and it's far better made than today's nonsense. My neighbours are refurbing and they just got a big Victorian chest of drawers, which I think is walnut wood, for £150 off FB.

He wants what he had before ; crowds of people hanging on to his every word plus country retreat to party/ shoot / whatever.

Yes - he fails to see the difference between working royal, part of British society, representative of the monarch and speaking on their behalf - and d list California celeb with no discernible talent or ability beyond spectacular levels of peevishness.

I agree with Tillin about the sofas - expensive high quality new would be bliss.

As for 2nd hand - I’ve taken to looking at Bellman’s auctions since they sold the National Gallery beautiful red leather seats. There are definitely bargains to be had. Though I can’t really get up to London for pre-auction inspection plus you need to transport the goods home. It’s fascinating to look though.

Yes! I must get back into this. I managed to get a lovely pair of walnut bedside cabinets from Ebay which are pretty much exactly like the ones my grandmother had, even to the drawer handles (her bedroom set with matching bedstead, wardrobe, and dressing table was her pride and joy). And really not expensive, as you say.

I hadn't thought of trying FB Marketplace, though - thanks for the tip!

bluegreygreen · 12/05/2026 13:31

It's worth checking your local auction house. We visit ours regularly for viewing - though not usually looking for furniture, we recently bought a revolving bookcase/table.

Most auctions allow online bidding these days, either their own platform or on the-saleroom, which has auctions from across the UK.

I’m not a grandmother yet but the daughters had better not have ideas. No I won’t be lugging backpacks of baby kit on the day out. And I definitely won’t be joining a family trip to Disney. Let alone wearing mouse ears.
Pretty sure I’m safe though have been force marched through the wilds of Scotland over the last two days. Just welcoming wind and rain as an excuse to luxuriate in the fabulous holiday home and have a quiet day with my book.

Honestly, I think you’ll be very surprised at what becoming a grandma brings out in you. ❤️😆

I’m Greek Cypriot and it used to be really common to have a large all super ‘show kitchen’ and a smaller proper working kitchen that is hidden away. I’ve never understood that mentality. Some still do that. My Cypriot family are often shocked when they come to visit and we use our actual kitchens! My dsis has the show and hidden kitchen concept.

It’s the same where I am a but my inside kitchen isn’t a show kitchen, it’s used every day and it’s my ‘outside the back door kitchen’ where certain things are cooked so the smell doesn’t go through the house and get trapped in the AC’s.

Why is she sitting on the bread and butter in her new photo shoot? Does nobody look at the images before posting?

I think if H is a "townie" Montecito always looks very suburban to me . He said in the docuseries he thinks Diana would have loved it. If she moved to the US I could see a big Jackie Kennedy type apartment being more her sort of thing. Montecito just looks a bit dull to me. However I have never been there and I can imagine with it being wealthy there are some lovely shops and retaurants , as well as the beach , mountains etc - so horses for courses.

I think it’s supposed to be stunningly beautiful. But yes, gives retirement village vibes. It’s also not a particularly diverse part of California.

How would he have known Diana would have loved it? He was a child when she passed. He clings to his mother's legacy like a limpet and the cynic in me doesn't believe its trauma. He monetises it

Was this another freebie - like last year's Disney trip?

Such a bizarre photo - get me looking gorgeous kissing my mom. Kids - hang about there in the back but hide your face. Doria is like wtf 😂

AtIusvue · 12/05/2026 16:32

Dorias body language looks uncomfortable.

Archie’s body language at the princess palace was alarming for a 7 year old

Archie and Lilis body language on the boat shows they are kids who don’t talk/play together. Just like last years Disney pics. Not one of them interacting.

Megs body language….tells us she’s the main attraction here

It reminds me of usually older relatives when they are curtain twitching.

The I'll just do this odd thing now like fiddle with this or sit on the butter to crane round and stare out this window at odd angle to see what no 9 doing while trying to look like I'm not being nosy.
