Oh poor Serena - who convinced her she looked ‘hot’ in the get-up? Puts me in mind of this:

Honestly I find this in extreme poor taste 🤷‍♀️

Yes, me too.

Serena looks best when she leans into her muscular athletic build with simple cuts. I really like the red sequined dress she was photographed in standing with Meghan.

Glad it’s not just me that finds that in poor taste @Benio

Thedom · 05/05/2026 11:45

Both of Serenas outfits were beyond awful, vulgar and tasteless, She deserves to be ridiculed for going out in public wearing those.

Yes indeed, however critical comments are different than depicting a black women as an extremely brown chicken in aluminium foil!
obviously this is my opinion, others may vary.

ShamedBySiri · 05/05/2026 12:13

I think on the whole it is a kindness not to invite Meghan. How would she manage the red carpet without someone to cling onto? Where would her security lurk? Who would style her and what on earth would she wear? Without the backing of a fashion house could she even afford the sort of custom made statement dress with a team of stylists on hand to make the whole thing work?
How could she cope with not being the star attraction?
Pretty sure she’d get it all wrong although to be fair the way some people were dressed (looking at you Sam Smith) she would probably look bland but acceptable and barely attract comment.

AtIusvue · 05/05/2026 12:21

Unfortunately Serena hasn’t heard anyone say no to her in years. So she passes herself off as a ‘fashion girlie’ because she can afford to buy whatever she wants but rarely does she get it right.

That was not my intention at all - it’s a funny Xmas FB trend to do up your turkey - there are lots of others in the series that made me chuckle.

The observation was Serena’s tin-foil like atrocity not the standard colour of roast turkey skin but I am happy to accept that some would be impacted negatively and have asked for it to be removed.

HoldMyWine · 05/05/2026 12:22

I think Serena looked very gladiatorial. I preferred the grey mini dress though she wore the day before.

Thedom · 05/05/2026 12:24

I've seen way worse of recent red carpets than that.

Absolutely, but that as a comparator doesn’t make hers any less ugly.

ShamedBySiri · 05/05/2026 12:34

I know this isn’t a met gala thread but for context Gracie Abrams (who I’ve never heard of before) apparently is an ambassador for Chanel and looked absolutely gorgeous in a custom made dress in homage to Klimt. Totally killing the Fashion is art theme. Hours and hours of work went into that dress - few people can afford that look without a contract to Chanel. Even by the standards of Met ball invitees.

Some people just get it to perfection and others can only look on in awe and sack their stylist.

I though she looked okay from right angle - but I do think she could have looked better.

I do think there's a lack of talent dressing some very beautiful women on red carpets especially if they don't fit the thin hollywood favoured body type. The women probably need to look further afield at wider talent than the usual fashion houses - not sure they will though as it's all backroom deals - the artciles written past few years have praised some god awful apparences - because right palms were likely greased with favours.

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 05/05/2026 12:41

Gracie Abrams’ father is J J Abrams. Suggested net worth $300 million. I think he could probably manage to stump up the cost of a Chanel outfit.

LOL - never heard of him either!
Anyway she seems to have won the beauty lottery as well as the money lottery.
Whether she is also a nice person or has any talent of her own I wouldn’t know.

BasiliskStare · 05/05/2026 13:05

I think @ShamedBySiri has a point. Who would dress Meghan. Post WRF she has been to the Balenciaga show , but it now seems she asked to go. Balenciaga dressed Anok Yai , https://www.vogue.com/article/anok-yai-2026-met-gala-black-madonna-beauty-balenciaga and Beyonce's daughter inter alia .
I'm not sure who M would approach for a dress. & not many people can afford these dresses on their own dollar.

@CathyorClaire I think the falling out with Anna Wintour happened in 2019 (I had to google to check - just as I had to google who Balenciaga dressed at the Met , for the avoidance of doubt I do not move in these circles - surely not? Ed. ) It was over demands for a British Vogue thing. So she hit the ground running with pissing off influential people. I do wonder though if that was not just her way. If the Reitmann's stories are to be believed she was pretty high handed when she was on Suits. Unless she had more self discipline than it appears she has , marrying H and being shot into the fame stratosphere did nothing for her "interpersonal skills"

Anok Yai Sent a Message at the Met Gala 2026 With Her Balenciaga “Black Madonna” Look

“When I go onto the red carpet, I don’t want to look like a human being,” the model told Vogue before arriving at the 2026 Met Gala.

She is also the partner of Paul Mescal, by the by. I haven’t seen his outfit (if he was there) but he does like a bit of fashion so no doubt something interesting.

StartupRepair · 05/05/2026 13:29

Serena's fame was earned by being one of the best the world has ever seen in her sport. So very far from fame through marriage.

BridgetJonesV2 · 05/05/2026 13:35

Serena was also an extremely poor sportswoman at times, throwing massive tantrums if she wasn't given her own way. The US Open (think it was 2018?) springs to mind, she behaved like a spoiled brat. I totally agree that she's rarely been said No to....

I agree. I don't think she'd know how to conduct herself in a room where she is very far from being the biggest star. She'd be clinging on to Harry and going on about her 'security' even though most of the people there are much richer and more important than her. She only seems comfortable in situations that she can control, and where she is the undisputed star of the show. The Met Gala certainly is not such a place.

Indeed, and the purpose of this fashion debacle was supposedly to ‘explore’ the relationship between the body and clothing.

Trouble is, it’s not radical arthouse any more - it’s dominated by yet more of the ‘look at meee’ luvvies showing just how lacking in creative intelligence they are.

Serena needs to back away from artistes playing at being artists, IMO, and stop trying to dress her corporeal strength in such pretentious glittery ‘fashion’ wrappings.

H&M would, ironically, have fitted right in with his-and-hers reimaginings of the bright red tit dress.

I have said before that M totally lacks the social skills needed when she is not the centre of attention. Her facial expressions give her away every time!

She's actually a woeful actress as she can't even pretend to interested. The incessant blinking gives her away. Micheal Pavano has her to a tee
