Thanks...but 'insiders' telling a royal expert sounds very wishy washy. You could put any words in their mouths. And I'm no H & M fan.

H & M seem to be very aware of what the RF are doing all the time... I find it hard to believe that they wouldn't watch the speech at all.

Papercompany - I know what you mean about insiders - I'm not saying it's true , just giving you a link. On balance I think they would have watched it - or at least I would have thought they would be interested in how C&C are going down in the US.

It does say on her Wiki page that she did a study abroad programme in Madrid as well after Argentina. Maybe she got mixed up.

I'm somewhat amazed we've never seen her graduation pictures in the distinctive purple gown and cap of Northwestern.

If she had a strong International Relations focus in her degree then I'm surprised she's never spoken about her courses and her Bachelor Dissertation/Thesis as she's spoken endlessly about the washing-up liquid letter as proof of her political activism/principles.

A while ago I saw an online copy of the programme for her graduation ceremony which listed her degree as a Bachelor of Science in Communication which is odd as International Relations would be a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. There was also a screenshot of her in the Freshman catalogue that she was a Journalism student - so who knows what she actually did 🤔

The other possibility is that she did international relations courses within the International Studies umbrella and was keen to emphasize this expertise as someone who had studied diplomacy etc when she joined the royal family.

International Studies is an adjunct degree and very flexible as you can double count courses to both degrees.

Thank you for that. That makes sense that she would talk up the more "glamorous" or important sounding modules she studied in order to inflate her accomplishments. Especially coupled with her breathless/wide eyed claim that she "worked for" the US embassy in Buenos Aires.

Didn't her father come out and say that this was actually a school project and no letter was actually posted ?

I do know that Graydon Carter when he was Editor of Vanity Fair , who are very keen on fact checking , said they could find no evidence of the story the way she tells it.

I don't think Charles wanted to say anything insincere. He doesn't know his American grandchildren at all really, and barely knows his American DIL. To claim a "tie" through them would be stretching the meaning of the word in this context. Plus, I imagine the brief was to keep to the matter of mending political fences, and avoid creating a distraction hullaballoo in the media by mentioning the Sussexes in any context.

I agree, Indianrollerbrd, and besides it wasn't really the time or place - especially as any comment about them would almost certainly have brought another ugly response from Harry

In such a context it's surely better to keep state and family completely separate, though that probably wouldn't affect Harry's view of the matter

I agree. I switched the video off as soon as I heard that. It’s uncalled for.

also calling H a retard and claiming the children could be as well.which is why they dont show their faces. I am not.fan of either H or M but that is appalling . I cant believe anyone would consider that acceptable.

I think this is interesting - why has no one sold a picture of her graduation, even in the background.

I can find Mayim Bialik's graduation photo (just first person I thought of)

Totally agree

MrsLeonFarrell · 30/04/2026 20:19

Charles was there an official capacity so why would he mention them?

He doesn'tvseem to remember much, full stop.

& then rewrites "his truth" version of history

Yes it’s odd. Also, I’m surprised her father hasn’t sold a picture.

I would never have thought about the Royal family watching each other's speeches and things like that

Rival and satellite royal courts have been a thing since forever.

The whole darn lot watch each other like hawks.

SqueakyDinosaur · 30/04/2026 20:46

There's a wonderful scene in S1 of The Crown where we see the Coronation partly through a party thrown by the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, where he's explaining the flummery to a roomful of (probably bored/bewildered) guests as it plays out on a teeny tiny telly which most of them can barely see.

"Ugly response" nails it..

I remember reading that George V was hurt that not all his sons congratulated him fulsomely after he had made the first ever Christmas King's Speech over the radio.

I imagine King Charles is thrilled at the (deservedly) positive reaction by everyone to his US speeches, and I think he will value his family's opinions the most.

Baital · 30/04/2026 21:22

LaurenBacal · 30/04/2026 16:37

He says himself he doesn’t remember much about her which is very sad.

It is sad, but also a reflection of the fact that she wasn't a perfect mother (none of us are, but most of us don't delegate to full time nannies and boarding school aged 8...).

She was a product of her upbringing, class and era. But certainly not a model of parenting I would want to follow.

Unfortunately H still - in his 40s - doesn't seem to be able to appreciate her strengths but also acknowledge her weaknesses as a parent. It something we all have to do as we grow up in order to have a healthy understanding of ourselves, and get away from the saint/villain approach to relationships

M is posting again on Instagram and we now hear Lili’s voice !

CathyorClaire · 30/04/2026 21:25

I think William has clearly learned a lot from being around the close and highly functional family unit of the Middletons

Apparently he's learned nothing from the blatant shedding of responsibility and culpability demonstrated by the Mids in regard to their business.

I thought it ran successfully for a couple of decades and folded because of COVID?

And that it was a Limited Company - which is a way thousands of people use to protect their personal assets from business risks?

But I haven't followed the story very much.

What responsibility/ culpability did the Middletons shed?

Oh ffs 🙄

I doubt they listen to each other's speeches normally, but for an occasion like this I would expect that the Wales's and perhaps others would listen. A great learning opportunity for George I would think.

As for H&M - they haven't clapped back at reports that they didn't watch/listen so I suppose that is likely to be the truth. Have they really kept Archie & Lili in complete ignorance of this historic occasion of the widely praised visit by their Grandfather? I suppose they must have. Beggars belief that they (it might just have been Harry) can talk about the children possibly choosing to be working royals when they grow up (which obviously would never be an option for them) but at the same time keep them in total ignorance of what working royals do. Bonkers.

This is pre-GCSE standard writing.

The writers write according to their audience. As far as I'm aware, Australian Good Housekeeping is more low-brow than British Good Housekeeping. The Aus version's readership will have a lower reading age, hence the more simply structured writing. It's a reflection of the readership not the writer.
