There’s a perception she doesn’t get a hard time because the one thing she is never slated for is being too fat or dressing inappropriately. Whereas Ferguson and B&E have all had these criticisms over and over, and MM got a lot of grief for some of her main character outfit choices.

Having said that, the press treats her very differently these days than it used to. There is a caution and deference to their coverage now. Partly because she is very popular with their readers and her behaviour and wardrobe has been pretty blameless, but also because she is so much closer to the throne.

And also because she was being roasted in the press and then it turned out she had cancer so they have to tread extra lightly now because even non royalists don’t like a mother with cancer being mocked.

Re Kate’s media treatment - she’s no different from any Royal / celeb is that she gets the same story arc / wave. Build you up, knock you down (if you aren’t being interesting enough in a positive way) and repeat.

She had the initial - hey Williams got a serious girlfriend, and isn’t she pretty, and how exciting she’s from a normal middle class family not of the awful aristocracy.

But the girlfriend stage went on too long without drama so we had the turning on the Middletons - the royals think they are too non-U, William’s friends mock the flight attendant mother, Carol is a gold digging social climber, harrasment, upskirting etc etc

But then they got engaged so now all is wonderful - she’s amazing etc - can’t wait for the wedding.

But now they are a boring married couple so let’s speculate that the royals hate the in laws for their new money ways, catch Kate topless, etc etc

Then there’s a royal baby, so yay! Back to positive press.

It was only people who started watching the royal circus because of Meghan who thought that Kate was the golden girl vs awful Meghan in the press.

In reality had Meghan stayed she’d have had the same story wave - up and Kate would have been down, and reverse and repeat.

There's a lot of truth in the 'cycles' of stories - it can be interesting to watch if you're not too invested in it.

I'm old enough to remember some of the paparazzi stories - and I didn't take that much interest in royal news at the time. Have just been looking some up - and hadn't realised that it got so bad that News International actually put a moratorium on the paparazzi photos in early 2007.
I did know about the groups of photographers/upskirting, but not the car chases.

While some of the photographers stand on the street, others are hidden in blacked-out vans and still more are waiting on motorbikes, the "snapper" on the pillion. (Last week, for the first time, the bike riders had earpieces and were clearly co-ordinating their pursuit of their quarry military-style.)

She gets a blacked-out van behind her, loaded with two or three people, plus two or three outriders on motorbikes. They're hemming her in at traffic lights, overtaking her and taking pictures through the window," a source said, adding that on January 3 and 4 this month, paparazzi "went completely nuts". When she was training for the London marathon Beatrice used to run at 6am to avoid paparazzi, the press were quite mean to her when she was younger. Anyway seems the King has invited them to Ascot after all.

So there have been 1000 plus posts based on a title that Beatrice and Eugenie had been banned from Ascot, whatever that precisely means, and now it 'seems the King has invited them after all.'
Perhaps some people have been lying.
Some people don't know the difference between imply and infer. I wish they'd check and get it right.

Or perhaps it's all gossip and clickbait - only the 3 people involved really know the truth and they're not going to feed the rumour-mongers.

She was papped smoking. I think it was on holiday and she was topless with a ciggie in her hand.

Long time ago. I very much doubt she's smoked since before she was pregnant with George.

And if she's had the odd one I would say she would've stopped completely when she was diagnosed with cancer.

I think all the Royal women get a hard time in the press. I can't imagine how Kate felt after the was hospitalised with hyperemesis and that poor nurse ended her life after the stupid prank call.

The press just love to catch an unflattering photo of any of the royal women. But they also definitely love to pit the women against each other.

you are right about the press, they pit the women against each other. sadly the public fall for it.
