It seems Meghan only really valued her role for its future bankability. When M and H got married, many people I knew said she would walk. I naively thought it was true love and she was fully committed. I now believe it was a plan. It infuriates me that she has taken a British royal title to make money for herself, not because that’s intrinsically wrong, but because she has shown absolutely no respect to this country or its traditions. Britain has been portrayed as a racist country as a result of her lies on OW.

Sadly , increasingly I think you are right. & I do think some of stuff she came out with on the OW interview was egregious - Archie's title etc . I also thought that bit in their miniseries by the chap who spoke about the Commonwealth and the Empire was barely GCSE level understanding - but it suited their narrative at the time.

Not for one moment am I going to say that M as a woman with a pretty successful career at the time ( and in terms of many actresses it was - not stellar - but to be fair earned her a decent living ) wouldn't find some of the strictures about being a potentially senior member of the RF onerous . I can see that. I do think though , she either underestimated how much she could bend the role to her will or indeed that she wouldn't be self made global patron speaking out on whatever she wanted in the style of some other very rich famous people.

I hope to goodness she and H are in love though , because the thought of sticking with a chap for 7 odd years for the title sounds too depressing for words to me. But then being a Prince of the Realm probably sprinkles a little fairy dust on any chap .

Agree @Coclare.

If you look on IMDb, her profile is updated with the smallest events, all under the 'Duchess of Sussex' name.

canklesmctacotits · 10/04/2026 16:35

I don't think it would be unreasonable to take the dukedom away from Harry (and therefore the Duchessdom (?) from Meghan), if he's going to spend the rest of his life as a non-working royal, raise his children outside the UK and be at best neutral to the contribution of the RF to the monarch's subjects. (I also think it's bonkers that his children are prince and princess of a country they have no personal knowledge or experience of.)

He would remain a prince, which he was born to, and will always be the monarch's son or brother. The Dukedom was given in recognition of his future contribution to the country as a working member of the royal family.

Let's face it, being a working royal is a very well paid acting job. It simply isn't possible that e.g. Princess Anne is interested in every person she meets and every event she goes to. She is pretending/acting.
Meghan should have viewed it as an acting job, if she wasn't able to find the role genuinely interesting (she didn't seem interested in the theatre opportunities, for instance). I'm sure being an actor is incredibly boring too - that's why the big stars have stand ins.

I think the problem was that as she wasn’t getting an actual salary she didn’t view it as a paid gig.

I think you're right. Except she left out the allowances from KC for clothes , free housing in beautiful houses , travel to "gigs" , no doubt personal spending money etc. Payment "in kind" obviously didn't register. 😊

‘According to a record made public on Friday, Sentebale lodged a defamation claim last month at the High Court against Harry and one of his close friends Mark Dyer, who was also a trustee of the charity.
There were no details as to what the lawsuit involved. Neither Harry's spokesperson nor the charity immediately responded to a request for comment.’

I absolutely love this for him 😂

I believe she's actually Lady Frederick Windsor, just as in theory Catherine is Princess William. But we know that Meghan blithely ignores naming protocols - her preferred "Meghan, Duchess of Sussex" should only be if divorced I believe - she should really be The Duchess of Sussex or Princess Harry.

She was thinking ahead……..

EmpressSisi · 10/04/2026 18:07

🫣😬🤣

BasiliskStare · 10/04/2026 18:10

I truly hope she has all the receipts for this (as I think the lingo goes - 😊)

But if she has, & I do hope that - then it will be very interesting to see how H copes with being on the other side of litigation. Maybe being H doesn't give you the corner on court cases eh ? Sometimes just being a prince doesn't mean you are in a complete bubble ( well from A.N. Other prince I think we know that now 😂 )

BigWillyLittleTodger · 10/04/2026 18:10

🍿 🍿🍿 😂

Not2identifying · 10/04/2026 18:15

I suppose it's possible that cooler heads will prevail and she'll accept a settlement. That would hurt Harry's pride though!

It's such a relief that someone is not prepared to put up with Harry's nonsense or be overawed by his royal status. He's picked the wrong person with Sophie.

Prince Harry sued for defamation by charity Sentebale he co-founded https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cr517n2v7myo

Wow!

Any 🍿anyone?

Also included in the Radio 4 6pm bulletin. I can hear groans from Buckingham Palace. I blame H for the court backlog.

Guest385 · 10/04/2026 18:23

Wow, just got a BBC news alert about it too!

Irony is…their behaviour has just landed them the negative press they’re desperately trying to avoid

They have no idea about PR. Complaining about Tom Bower's latest book merely propelled it to the top of Amazon's best seller list. Own goal! Poor PR people, having their advice ignored.

IdaGlossop · 10/04/2026 18:29

Starryfifty · 08/04/2026 20:26

This is absolutely bizarre. Why on earth would they pay this to listen to him discuss "mum, accountability, etc" or whatever he rattles on about.

MM does the same eg at One Young World, she was supposed to talk about One Young World but talked about herself.

This is gold 😀.

Can’t wait for Sophie’s tell-all book.

BasiliskStare · 10/04/2026 18:40

Men in grey suits Harry ? But maybe "You don't know what you've got Till it's gone " *

I do think he has made big missteps with his charitable things since finding freedom. Sentebale , Africa Parks , IV. Not all in the same way .

*All credit J. Mitchell.

Sophie will surely win. She's a lawyer so wouldn't bring a case she wasn't going to win.
