Beatrice and Eugenie banned from Ascot

Beatrice and Eugenie have been banned from the royal box at Ascot and from royal events in the foreseeable future. That's according to a headline in the Daily Mail. A little part of me feels a bit sorry for them as they're not their parents. I don't like them much but they do seem to symbolise all that's wrong with the royals. Money and immense wealth and priviledge for very little return.

Yes, the idea that a 3 year old must have as much food as a 5 year old, or an 11 yr old as much as a teenager is a bit crazy.

And, strangely, older siblings often want to dress differently to younger ones.

BigWillyLittleTodger · 31/03/2026 17:45

Exactly, look at the height difference as children! of course William needed more food! In other news my older sister got the bigger bedroom and I had her hand me down clothes! the trauma has scarred me for life.

Indeed! All this faux concern about royal children and supposed favouritism is baffling! , all children experience favouritism and an unequal upbringing, it’s the nature of the world! Sons over daughters, rich over poor, oldest over youngest! .
my own grandmother favoured boys and treated my older brother with obvious favouritism 🤷‍♀️.
the monarchy is a hierarchy, this has been universally known by all for most of recorded history, apparently only Harry and a handful of posters find this surprising!

TravellingSomewhere · 31/03/2026 17:55

Hmm the Easter Sunday service they are no longer attending may not even be broadcast anyway, what is it they will miss out on really? Well they miss out on all the booing and questions thay will get shouted at I suppose....

Says alot if even the cash strapped BBC is prioristing other shows over broadcasting a service the RF are attemding, I thought they were so popular people would want to see them?

Faux concern? I was raised along eoth my siblings equally, equality being a cornerstone of my religion.

There was no favouritism, if my parent gave one sibling x money we all got the same. My mum particularly who herself had faced inequality with her siblings due to cultural and aoxiety norms of thoae times was determined to break the cycle and hats off to her. She did. She treats the grandkids the same way, everything is equal and she would never say anything to make any of them feel they are less than the other.

So there are plenty of people out there who are capable of treating their children amd grandchildren equally.

Sorry you didn't get to have thay experience i wouldn't wish it on anyone.

The monarchy can break the cycle too of they choose to.

BigWillyLittleTodger · 31/03/2026 18:03

It is indeed baffling @jeffgoldblum no parent treat their children the same, we all have roles and responsibilities within the family, my older sister had to be the responsible one as she was older for example and had to look after me on occasion.

Is it usually?

I thought it was usually a private service in St George's Chapel at Windsor.

What has your upbringing got to do with anything?
my parents also treated my siblings the same way!
your concern for children ( who are all adults and have been for decades) is very confusing when you seem to criticise them all for everything they do!
the monarchy and aristocratic society is different from way things work, yet you are calling for sympathy for people who have grown up with more privilege and wealth than any other children, the only way royal family members would all be treated the same as the monarch is if there was no monarchy at all ! And I’m sure that would upset them a lot more when they are no longer able to access those same privileges!
I will add ..the way you twisted @BigWillyLittleTodgerpost to make it seem she was talking about children and being uncaring when she clearly wasn’t hasn’t gone unnoticed!

Well you spoke about your personal upbringing first..why are you allowed to bring your upbringing up because as you say to me what has it got to do with anything?

Your parents might have but you said yojr grandmother didn't...so 💁‍♀️

And quite frankly gone unnoticed by whom? Sounds abit like your threatening me by saying that.

bluegreygreen · 31/03/2026 18:16

My parents treated us as equally as they could - not as far as money was concerned (they didn't have any) but in other ways.

That doesn't mean they gave the youngest child the same amount to eat as the oldest, or dressed us the same. We all were given what we needed, and equivalent treats when they were available. We were loved and cared for equally.

Its not about appearing a spare...wow what an attitude you have about children.

As I have said the children need to all be raised up out of public view until they are adults and to be raised knowing they all need jobs. Of course with the heir he can start his royal training after he is 18. There is plenty of time for the future heir to be trained up, since most kings/queens live to a very old age.

Beggars belief anyone actually thinks its ok to raise children up where there is clear inequality between then and somehow think these kids at a young age should just be okay about it. Then raising them to be working royals to be dependent on their brother for money, to have to behave how he wants them to lest he takes away their allowance.

There is no alternating the rules of succession here the first child will always be future heir regardless.

Inequality is pretty common in many families and a fact of life. Hereditary estates/titles all go to the eldest, family businesses often pass to one sibling as do family farms (my SIL knew from an early age that the "boy" would inherit the farm).

It seems to be a particular issue for royal younger siblings (AMW/Harry) with a certain sense of entitlement that their children should be Prince/Princesses and have privileges because of this. Princess Margaret was the spare - but her children were not working royals nor held princely titles. Only Andrew chose for his kids to be princesses - Anne chose no titles and Edward chose lesser titles.

A lot of Royal houses of Europe have faced this issue and streamlined the RF to the heir and their family
2023 - Denmark stripped all of the prince/princess titles from Prince Joakim's (the spare's) 4 children who are now styled Count/Countess of Monpezat
2019 - Sweden removed HRH titles from the children of the Kings younger children - Carl Phillip has also during childhood gone from being the heir to the spare

Totally agree. My DCs are very different but are treated equally, always have been

It was very different in the family I grew up in, boys over girls and even worse than that which I can't go into
