This is the third thread discussing the case Prince Harry (and 6 others) are bringing against the Daily Mail (Associated Newspapers) for alleged unlawful information gathering (UIG).

Thread 1

Thread 2

Since the celebrities have given evidence, there has been limited direct reporting from court; what there is has mostly been on this link

This has been a very interesting thread. Thanks to all the posters who updated it with the daily goings on and the posters who gave very useful insights.

bluegreygreen · 04/04/2026 20:33

I never usually get involved in royal family or celeb threads, but this story has interested me for the sole reason of ensuring a free press to hold all public figures to account.

That has been my main interest in this case too, @CraftyGin, hence trying to keep it away from the partisan discussions of other threads.

(I do get involved in other RF threads; it's all been a helpful distraction over the last couple of years while I've been unwell)

38 million? What an outrageous waste of money. It's obscene

Quite the portrait of Harry there, a fox indeed 😱

It’s a really good portrait of him Joe. He just looks dissolute and washed up.

ThePoshUns · 04/04/2026 21:49

A rabid fox maybe

StartupRepair · 04/04/2026 21:54

Adding my thanks for all the share tokens and legal insights.

Portrait of him NOW. Edit feature not there for some reason.

I wish he hadn’t made such a song and dance about his brothers “ alarming baldness “ because normally I would never comment on something that was obviously so close to the bone but here we are🤷‍♀️

Poppiesmocking · 02/04/2026 08:51

Why shouldn’t they though? The whole modern ‘bring your whole self to work’ is ridiculous nonsense - no one wants to see someone’s whole self, we want their professional self at work. Same with the RF. Being a member of the RF is to perform, like actors on a stage. More than that, KC at least is not allowed to publically express his opinion on anything political - of course he still has such opinions.

Harry’s mistake is thinking people liked Colin Firth when they actually liked Darcy.

Surely even Harry isn't too dim to realise this. Patrick Stewart as Jean-Luc Picard was my major heartthrob for years. It only took seeing him in a movie at the cinema to realise that my heartthrob was actually J-L Picard as played by Patrick Stewart. The right actor in the right role for him.

Although he was rather toothsome as Sejanus, once I got used to the hair. It was like when I saw Yul Brynner with hair in "The Brothers Karamazov". somewhat disturbing.

MrsLeonFarrell · 05/04/2026 06:51

Agreec it has been a fascinating legal discussion. Awaiting the verdict with interest. The Times article made the very valid point that Harry was happy to drag ex girlfriends into the case whilst complaining that his privacy had been breached. If anyone wins I hope it isn't him, I see no evidence that illegal means were used against him.

Thedom · 05/04/2026 07:05

Yes, it’s been great to have updates in one place, thank you @bluegreygreen and everyone else for keeping us up to date.

@MrsLeonFarrell, I will be shocked if Harry wins, it’s been made abundantly clear Harry and his friends were partying hard during that period, seems like copious amounts of drink and drugs were consumed, and not only with the close circle of friends he claimed, but with lots of other randoms, including the DM journalist. Drink and drugs partying, is not exactly conducive to being discreet and discerning about what is witnessed or said.

noonames · 05/04/2026 07:25

It’s hard to see how the judge can rely on anything Harry said, given his admitted (in Spare) dodgy memory and his belief that His Truth is as valid as The Truth. Plus of course some of his evidence was shown to be false. Mr Mischief indeed.

GwendolineFairfax8 · 05/04/2026 08:59

@bluegreygreen I really hope you are on the road to recovery 🥰

Thank you for this thread and all the useful information from you and others that it has provided. It has been so helpful to me 🙏

binkie163 · 05/04/2026 09:42

Added thanks from me, I had a grim February (seasonal affected thing) the updates gave me a lift most days, summer is now back.
Does anyone know the figure on H's wins/compensation so far? is it enough to have funded his extremely expensive legal team and to carry the most likely loss against ANL.
Has he paid his last loss, I believe there were substantial costs on his appeal against RAVEC.
This could well be an expensive lesson, unless of course pa bails him out, which I consider likely.
My grandad liked the horses and had a pot, he always said when the pot was empty that was his last bet, when he passed there was over £100 in it, I continue it for him once a year bet on grand national and 20 years later it is still going. He always said bet small £1.00 never bet more than your Saturday lunchtime Guinness. He was a guardsman at Buckingham Palace and would have been appalled at the RF goings on of the last decade.

Poppiesmocking · 05/04/2026 10:14

We are not America - the courts seek to compensate for harm (is put you back where you were before it happened) and cannot be punitive. Hence much much lower awards.

Ballah · 05/04/2026 10:23

It’s Doreen Lawrence I feel sorry for. I think she has been groomed and played by the other complainants to futher their self serving agendas and will be distressed and humiliated when she realises this. I expect she won’t see PH again for dust.

Starryfifty · 05/04/2026 13:37

Unfortunately, PH can afford to lose. Pa will always bail him out. He'll appeal (if that is possible) until he gets what he wants. He has endless money and time to do so

I also felt sorry for DL but I don't now. She personally knew the 2 people she was making charges against for nearly 30 years, had met their families, called them racist when one is married to a lady of colour and has kids. She owes the DM a huge debt as without them her son would have been forgotten within weeks. She is an intelligent articulate lady, a qualified counsellor and would be trained to spot vindictive, punishing personalities like H & co. The minute she knew the statement used to entrap her was false she should have walked away and saved her dignity. When you lie down with dogs, you get flea's.

ThePoshUns · 05/04/2026 14:29

Good post@binkie163, the Lawrence’s would never have had justice but for the DM. The one journalist was clearly upset when giving his evidence.

JSMill · 05/04/2026 14:47

@binkie163Great post. Stephen Lawrence deserved justice and the family shouldn’t have to be grateful for what was their right. However, it simply wouldn’t have happened without the DM and dragging reporters who took big risks and calling them dishonest is a terrible thing to do, particularly when she has known them a long time.
