Meghan has had a hard time with the media, but so has Catherine.
She was hounded by paparazzi to the point that holding a normal job became impossible, forcing her to leave Jigsaw and work for her parents instead. Photographers followed her constantly, loitered outside her flat and car, and repeatedly tried to upskirt her. They shouted insults like “slag,” “bitch,” and “whore” to provoke a reaction.
She was portrayed as a social climber in the media, with the press branding her and her sister the “Wisteria sisters” and mocking her mother as a real life Mrs Bennet (notably they never targeting her father in the same way). There were also articles specifically targeting her mother for being ‘common’ and mocking her for being an air hostess.
Her voicemail was hacked 155 times.
The paparazzi used a long lens cameras to photograph her nude while sunbathing on private property.
She was subjected to a cruel radio “prank,” where presenters attempted to obtain her private medical information while she was hospitalised during her pregnancy with George, which resulted in a nurse committing suicide.
And more recently, the whole “Where’s Kate?” saga, which escalated from online speculation into a national media campaign, only ending when she was effectively bullied into revealing her cancer diagnosis.
Both women have endured appalling treatment from the media, but some people choose to act as if only Meghan suffered, while wilfully ignoring everything Catherine was put through too.
