https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c14vvv8pnpmoMessage from Charles

He’s doing well obviously, treatments will be reduced. He’s not cured. But it’s sounding like it’s being managed well.

It’s amazing the advancements made in the treatment of cancer over the past decade. From personal experience, I think immunotherapy has made a huge difference.

This is the first thread I’ve ever started, and it seems like a good non controversial topic.

I know you'll probably get a lot of snarky comments from the Republicans but it's great that KC has a good news health update to coincide with Christmas. I'm sure the RF are feeling relieved. Nice one.

DoreensLemonDrizzle · 13/12/2025 03:24

I am pleased for him, but they way it was hyped up I hoped he was going to announce a Kings Trust type thing to fund further cancer research from his own personal wealth as a legacy to the nation. That would’ve been very generous and thoughtful, on a topic that affected him personally.

I hope I don’t get snarky comments from republicans. I’m a Republican myself. It’s good news - and also really good news that everything I hear and have seen concerning cancer is that the scientific advancements for many types of cancer have been incredible these past years.

This is not true for all types of cancer yet, I’m aware:

Perhaps he’ll announce something like that in the Christmas message?

I hope so @CaneBasket It would be an amazing legacy.

Cupcakegirl13 · 13/12/2025 05:21

I didn’t take it so positively , they are obviously not able to cure him and managing a terminal diagnosis. It’s incredibly sad .

Not2identifying · 13/12/2025 06:14

I watched his message on Channel 4 yesterday and thought he did a great job coming across as warm and engaged on the issue.

I'm okay with him not announcing some sort of personal charity or project because I would have perceived that as more like PR for him. Instead he focused on the importance of screening and early diagnosis, encouraging British people to use a new tool to check their eligibility. That's a potentially life-saving message.

Untailored · 13/12/2025 06:45

While early diagnosis is an important message, he should remember that he has a medical team that probably check him over every month. The rest of us usually don’t know anything’s wrong until symptoms show up.

Not2identifying · 13/12/2025 07:09

That's why he was specifically drawing attention to the screening eligibility tool rather than recommending everyone gets themselves a personal expert medical team dedicated solely to them. 😉

DisforDarkChocolate · 13/12/2025 07:11

I'm a republican but good news for people with cancer is always to be celebrated.

luckylavender · 13/12/2025 07:56

I think his early diagnosis message is somewhat disingenuous actually. Firstly because he will be checked regularly and secondly because they only found it due to a different issue. It’s impossible for everyone to get an early diagnosis as mostly there will be no symptoms.

I agree. Just because one is a republican it doesn't mean you want KC3 to die of cancer.

But surely if you take up the offered cancer checks from the NHS, you’ll have a better chance than if you don’t.

Sweetiedarling7 · 13/12/2025 08:16

Just because it can’t be cured doesn’t mean someone can’t live a happy life for many years.
I speak from personal experience. Plenty of people live with stage 4 cancer.
Very pleased by this news.

Hes 77 so he probably knows hes not going to be around for a long time. Hes had a tough few years, with parents passing, His DIL and mother of his 3 young grandchildren having cancer. The Andrew scandal. No amount of wealth and status can insulate anybody from all this, even being the King.
I wouldnt say I was a big royalist, however I do have a photo of my son at a medal parade for Afghan veterans, desperate to keep a straight face as Charles was standing next to him 😁

I had the same thought and am surprised the media haven’t picked up this angle! I personally wouldn’t be surprised if we had a new king by this time next year. Not wishing it on him at all may I add.

That’s a wild assumption! People live for many years with stage 4 cancer - there’s absolutely no suggestion that he’s been told he’s only got months to live. What a weird conclusion.

Larymarylary · 13/12/2025 09:38

He’s in a position of great privilege, as is Catherine. They should both have shared what cancer they have and given us more details. The reason for this would be to raise the profile of their particular cancer, to highlight the importance of noticing changes and seeking medical help. Furthermore, this would be an opportunity to share how much treatments have improved.

I’m disappointed in both of them.

smallsilvercloud · 13/12/2025 09:46

I’m glad he’s doing well, they caught it early so hopefully it just means a recovery.
I think they should share what type of cancer, I don’t understand why all the privacy about it, we already know they had cancer and it would help raise awareness more widely to check symptoms.

Lifestooshort71 · 13/12/2025 10:01

There's no 'should' about it. Are they not entitled to any privacy about their medical concerns? Think of all the hateful comments and trolling they'd have to put up with.

To be fair to them, the posters doing these faux big eyed innocent posts about how thy feel Chas should forfeit his own privacy to raise awareness have given me my first laugh of the morning (over their transparent clamour for private information. I don't find cancer funny).

Incidentally Dave Myers from The Hairy Bikers never revealed what cancer he was suffering with before his untimely death. But I never see posters bang on indignantly about him not sharing his private health information.

Agreed. Why should they share personal private information for people to only say they are malingering, at deaths door, or looking well or whatever other people like to criticise them for not sharing.

upinaballoon · 13/12/2025 12:09

A friend of mine had a cancer which was treated, and she always said she was at an advantage because it was diagnosed early. She was on the NHS, no big money, no private treatment. Encouraging people to take up any tests on offer can't be a bad thing.
I don't think he should say where his cancer is. I guess the treatments for some cancers have come on amazingly but that some are still more difficult to treat, and that the future for those people is still very serious. Best left as 'cancer' and unspecified, I feel. It might even be that the cancer charity/ies would prefer him not to specify. I don't suppose he made his statement without some consultation with them about the words he would use.

PinkPanther57 · 13/12/2025 12:22

I am very glad PC is doing better.

He is telling public to get checked. What’s he advocating for? Full body scans if you can afford it? Taking up the tests that are already offered? Surely most will & do. Is he telling men in particular not to be too proud or scared to do latter as early detection saves lives?

His cancer responded well to weekly chemo which is fantastic. If we knew which cancer he has we could advocate for our loved ones who might benefit from similar. Would this be routinely offered on the NHS if warranted?
