https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c14vvv8pnpmoMessage from Charles

He’s doing well obviously, treatments will be reduced. He’s not cured. But it’s sounding like it’s being managed well.

It’s amazing the advancements made in the treatment of cancer over the past decade. From personal experience, I think immunotherapy has made a huge difference.

This is the first thread I’ve ever started, and it seems like a good non controversial topic.

@PinkPanther57 I think they said in the programme last night that 9 million invitations for tests have been ignored.

I'm a republican but good news for people with cancer is always to be celebrated.

Very well said, DisforDarkChocolate - from another republican who has no admiration for Charles, but wouldn't wish an unpleasant death on anyone

I do however hope that any lessening of treatment really is because of good progress, and not because the treatment itself has become too much to bear

Larymarylary · 13/12/2025 13:07

I knew some would bang on about their right to privacy but their great privilege brings great responsibility. The responsible way of behaving, would see them sharing with us how important it is to seek an early medical opinion and how their particular cancer has responded to treatment.

I'm sorry but that is a load of bollocks.

No it isn’t. They do have great privileges and that does bring with it, responsibility.

Your argument is pretty shallow.

DaphneduM · 13/12/2025 13:13

I'm pleased for him. He waited a long time to be King and has done some good initiatives - particularly the Kings (previously Princes) Trust. He takes his position seriously and has worked for our country doing engagements and foreign tours. He certainly hasn't milked his cancer diagnosis for his own advantage - exactly the opposite.

This exposes a glaring comparison with his lazy heir who doesn't understand the concept of public service and noblesse oblige.

This doesn't surprise me as the number of women I know who don't get smear tests or mammograms is too high. Someone said to me they wouldn't do the faecal test as they're not using me as a guinea pig 🤷‍♀️. Some people like to stick their heads in the sand.

Lucky for King Charles, that he is able to reduce his cancer treatment.
His words were uplifting, though he still looks fatigued by his illness.
Hope his energy is restored soon.

I didn’t take it so positively , they are obviously not able to cure him and managing a terminal diagnosis. It’s incredibly sad .

That’s how I interpreted it too. This isn’t really positive news at all.

It's a differing of opinion! I do not expect KC to expose every single medical condition. For some bizarre reason you do.

sleepyjessie · 13/12/2025 13:17

Glad he’s doing well.

I don’t think it’s helpful to say “early detection is key!”, while not sharing what type of cancer he has. For example early detection of prostate cancer is very different to early detection of something like pancreatic cancer.

lickingfingertastingfood · 13/12/2025 13:18

Here we go - it's a repeat of the Catherine thread.

TheNinkyNonkyIsATardis · 13/12/2025 13:18

I don't think it's useful on a public messaging level to specify the cancers. It might then only help a specific group (like Jade Goody and smear tests).

It's actually probably more beneficial to focus on the 9 million missed tests than to hone in on a specific type and maybe only get a few hundred thousand most concerned.

I think I agree but it’s a difficult one. If either PK & KC had a particularly rare or underfunded cancer does that make a stronger case I wonder?

Some oncologists apparently think he has a superficial bladder cancer found after assessment & tests on his prostate. Kate too, I believe, had cancer that was unexpectedly discovered. Perhaps being too specific would highlight the inequality of provision after diagnosis? Weekly chemo isn’t routine I think, etc. It seems regular screening he’s promoting wouldn’t have picked up the cancer KC & Catherine have/have had. That said promoting tests etc can only be a good thing.

RememberHowYouMadeMeCrazy · 13/12/2025 13:15

Lots of older people die with cancers as opposed to of cancer. Bladder cancer is an example of this, with the condition being “managed” rather than “cured”. It does not at all mean that his condition must be terminal

I never said I expect every single medical condition to be exposed.

It’s clear that many people either put off routine cancer screening, or fail to report symptoms to their GP. The privileged royals have a great opportunity here to encourage our better access to screening etc. They can also offer hope. It’s disappointing that they think they are above that.

Many privileged celebrities have seized the opportunity to champion accessing screening programmes, which is fantastic. It’s very disappointing that the royals don’t follow their example.

Larymarylary · 13/12/2025 09:38

He’s in a position of great privilege, as is Catherine. They should both have shared what cancer they have and given us more details. The reason for this would be to raise the profile of their particular cancer, to highlight the importance of noticing changes and seeking medical help. Furthermore, this would be an opportunity to share how much treatments have improved.

I’m disappointed in both of them.

I get they have a high profile public role but every single person is entitled to privacy when it comes to medical matters. And I say that as a Republican.

We only need to know to what extent the illness impacts on their ability to do their job.

Anyone demanding details beyond that can only be doing so for salacious reasons.

How odd! Isn't he actually doing that on a TV show special aimed at this? That was his main point 🤷‍♀️

Reddog1 · 13/12/2025 13:34

I’m a republican who wishes him another ten years, as long as he’s well enough to bear them.

Fuck cancer.

PinkPanther57 · 13/12/2025 13:36

UK Biobank recruited 100,000 volunteers for MRI & other scans & any abnormality reported to the volunteer’s GP. This has saved lives & the initiative was to gather research data.

These scans spotted otherwise symptomless stage 3 kidney cancer as one example - after further tests - heart issues and more.

Should we all prioritise these scans for mid life? The Royals likely have them as part of their annual medicals.

ShinyHappyTits · 13/12/2025 13:42

Well he's reminded me that my cervical screening test is well overdue and I should really book it. If a few people's cancer's are caught because of this message, then he deserves the plaudits.

stillavid · 13/12/2025 15:53

I suspect the reason Kate in particular hasn't revealed her type of cancer is she doesn't want everyone googling the likelihood of her surviving it and how long for.

Rhaidimiddim · 13/12/2025 21:20

Untailored · 13/12/2025 06:45

While early diagnosis is an important message, he should remember that he has a medical team that probably check him over every month. The rest of us usually don’t know anything’s wrong until symptoms show up.

But still didn't catch the cancer until he had an op for something else. Samevwith Catherine.

I doubt whether any of them get checked forvevery type of cancer every month.

Ha, Yes! Fuck cancer. And all the other shitty illnesses.

My partner has stage 4 cancer and initially received a terrible prognosis. He’s completed chemo for now and is having immunotherapy only at this point - although this could change of course. He’s doing really well, currently.

There has been some very dark moments along the way though, and quite a few dark empty-feeling nights.

At his age - he’s in his 70s like Charles - he feels he’s lived a good and long life, and any extra is icing on the cake. And he’s determined to make the best of it.

I agree with this.

Catherine has stated she’s in remission I think.

But if she’d announced what type of cancer she had, people would have been googling, and given that she has 3 young children she would not have wanted them exposed to the rumours and internet predictions. Even if they don’t have access to the internet, their friends probably do, as do their friend’s parents. Not to mention article after article in the press and television commentary. The less the children heard (that didn’t come from Catherine and William) the better.
