The latest YouGov figures on the Royal Family are in:

  • Andrew is spectacularly unpopular—91% negative (Honestly, I’d love to chat with the 4% who still like him 🤣)
  • William and Catherine remain the crown jewels of public opinion, with favourability ratings of 76% and 73% respectively.
  • Charles’ numbers have edged up slightly, from 59% in August to 62%, despite the ongoing Andrew mess.
  • Camilla is still a divisive figure with 45% favourable, 41% unfavourable.
  • Harry and Meghan continue to struggle, with favourability at just 30% and 21%.
  • Overall support for the monarchy has slipped slightly, from 64% to 62% but is still holding up surprisingly well considering recent events
  • A quarter of the population would rather have an elected head of state.

I’m always surprised at how low Camilla rates, despite all the very positive press she receives now.

Some people have really long memories.

Charles’s favourability is fairly strong at 62, but his unfavourability remains noticeably high. It’s a disproportionate level of dislike compared with both his standing and the ratings of those around him. And it’s not as if he’s done anything recently to make himself unpopular. His numbers have actually improved, even with the whole Andrew saga and the criticism over how slowly he dealt with it.

Quite surprising that W&C rate so high.

I wonder if it's because people have the perception that W is going to 'make a difference'?

EmpressSisi · 19/11/2025 12:33

@CathyorClaire

They’ve always been pretty popular. They’re just really easy to like. The only noticeable dip in popularity seems to have been around January 2023 when Spare came out, and even then William still maintained a rating of 70 (most politicians would kill for a rating like that).

Somehow, despite their enormous privilege, they manage to give off that relatable, easy going vibe. Catherine always comes across as really warm and approachable in public, especially with children, and whilst William is a bit more formal he still manages to be jokey and down to earth for a royal. Together, they seem like a solid couple with a photogenic family. They avoid scandals, rarely complain, and aren’t afraid to laugh at themselves.

I do think there is a sense that William might actually shake things up when he becomes King. The fact that Forest Lodge is being described as their “forever home,” and his handling of tricky family matters (cutting off Harry and reportedly pressuring Charles over Andrew) suggests he’s willing to make big changes. But the proof will be in the pudding, as they say.

But honestly, i think it would take something pretty extreme (like William having a secret love child or Catherine getting caught kicking a puppy) for them to lose public good will and have people turn against them.

(My opinion only, of course!)

I'm not, Diana is still massively popular with a huge number of people old enough to remember her, to peculiar saint like levels due to her tragic death.

The large dislike rather than no opinion of Charles will be people from that demographic I think. Camilla obviously shoulders most of the blame though because well, misogyny I presume. I quite like both of them.

I feel that Diana's comment that there were three people in the marriage, while it may have been true to her feelings was untrue in reality, there were many, many people involved in that marriage, some of them intimately (Camilla and Diana's affaire partners), some of them not intimate but with enormous influence power and control (family members, the firm, the media), all should shoulder the blame for Diana's mental health problems not just Charles and Camilla. The whole thing was toxic and abusive.

But everyone old enough to have seen it can remember Diana looking lost and vulnerable and devastated by the breakdown of her marriage. While the older more worldly Charles and Camilla never showed their feelings in such a revealing way, so they must be the baddies and will never be forgiven in the eyes of many people.

By all accounts, with the probe into bashier and the bbc it’s now proven that it was not Camilla she was referring to but tiggy l b ( sorry spelling off today! 😳) , Diana was falsely persuaded that Charles was having an affair with her and impregnated her, she was actually paid damages!
but unfortunately people still associate that phrase with Camilla.

Hoolahoophop · 19/11/2025 13:42

@jeffgoldblum I didn't know that. It does kind of give more weight to my thoughts. Diana was manipulated and betrayed by far more people than just Charles and Camilla though they always get the blame.

Fucking hell, I never knew that 😮

I’ve just read that Bashir actually gave Diana a fabricated abortion ‘receipt’ after planting that idea in her head. I can’t even imagine what must have been going through her mind at the time. And then poor Tiggy having to deal with the aftermath whilst trying to do her job, looking after the boys. It’s absolutely awful.

My thoughts on this.... the 4% who still regard Andrew favourably pop up regularly on the DM, protesting that nothing has been proved against him and he hasnt been charged with anything. They dont seem to be able to put two and two together, or question why anyone would pay 12million pounds to someone theyd never met, over something theyd never done.

William and Catherine have the whole modern fresh aesthetic going and of course their lovely family and beautiful children are a huge plus.

I cant see past camilla the adulteress - cheating is always so sleazy and immoral.

Charles doesnt need to do anything in particular to earn popularity. His role is to be there and provide stability and a sense of permanence. I must say I felt a huge surge of sympathy for him over the Spare and Oprah debacles. I thought he handled it all well and must have suffered greatly through it as its evident he loves Harry very much.

Harry and Meghan are a huge disppointment and have stuffed up spectacularly, I was always a great supporter of them and thought they both had star quality and could have bought something meaningful to the royal family and made a difference. But their whining and greed have just put me off forever.

Sophie and Edward are just delightful and I am also a massive fan of Princess Anne (the greatest king we'll never have!) and Zara Tindall.

EmpressSisi · 19/11/2025 14:07

I’m actually quite surprised that Beatrice and Eugenie’s favourability hasn’t took a greater hit considering their father’s disgrace. There were some pretty unsavoury comments about them in ‘Entitled’ as well, so they’ve done remarkably well to only fall a few points since the August poll.

@EmpressSisi most people wont have read Entitled and a lot will feel sorry for them for having such awful parents.

Lobelia123 · 19/11/2025 14:12

Yes, agreed re Beatrice and Eugenie. While I sympathise and agree that their parents' sins and misdemeanours are not theirs, this is a clear time for them to stand up for what is right and publicly distance themsleves from the whole taint of the Epstein scandal and all the financial errors of their parents. You can love your parents and provide support, while still saying you dont agree with human traficking, sexual exploitation, fraud and mismanagement. They missed a huge opportunity here to do the right thing.

Do you feel the same about Diana as about Camilla?

Hi, no I dont. She wasnt the first to cheat and seemed pathetically desperate to make her marriage work. Like any human being and especially a youngish fairly naive woman she probably craved love and romance. Charles and Camilla were both a decade older than her, very experienced and jaded about things like fidelity and marriage (both the Parker Bowles' had been screwing around on each other for years) and the whole thing was a disaster from start to finish. So while adultery is against my personal values and Diana is not spotless ot blameless here, I think a little more sympathetically of her.

Agreed. You also have to remember that Diana became engaged to Prince Charles when she was 19. Almost unbelievably young. She was only 20 when they got married.

And he was the Prince of Wales. A massive power imbalance. And she had to grow up in the world's gaze.

So, no, I do not judge her the way I judge Camilla and Charles.

(I also know a little bit about Charles, and believe me, Camilla was not his only sidepiece.)

jeffgoldblum · 19/11/2025 14:31

By all accounts Diana was the first to cheat , her bodyguard was first , though less mentioned, then she went on to have many more affairs.
cheating is wrong regardless of who it was or how much you like them.

JoeMarlerseyes · 19/11/2025 14:38

who do they ask for these polls? I have never known anyone who has been asked.

EmpressSisi · 19/11/2025 14:39

I’m really curious how things might have unfolded if Diana hadn’t died so tragically. By that point, her relationship with Charles was starting to improve and the media were beginning to turn on her. But because she died so young and so suddenly, she was instantly sanctified, and Charles and Camilla were cast as the villains in the piece.

Me too. Personally, I think if the media had continued on the trajectory they were then she would be getting a harder time than Camilla. The higher the media build a person up the further they have to fall. IF Charles and Camilla had still been allowed to marry as two divorcees rather than a divorcee and a widower it would all depend on what Diana did next. As she got older she would no doubt have been assessed on her declining looks (not because they were declining but because the media are assholes). If she married, settled and did charity work all would be good. If she carried on moving form fling to fling unsettled and increasingly desperate she would have been destroyed.

Not to mention all the comparisons between Diana, Catherine, and Meghan. Camilla, cast as the so-called frumpy “wicked stepmother,” is largely immune from that kind of scrutiny. But glamorous Diana? She would have been endlessly measured against them.

Sad but true.

I don't believe her life would have got much easier, and I don't believe she had any genuine support with the mettle to help lift her out of it.

jeffgoldblum · 19/11/2025 15:01

Her own brother refused her request to live on his ( her family) estate! , which is why I find his behaviour after her death rather disingenuous!
