…but bloody hell, I hope he’s got a crack writer’s room for this year’s Christmas Message! I wonder who might be up for it?

The thing is that the deprincing is such a seismic event in the family that I can’t see how he can avoid at least mentioning it…

It will definitely be interesting. I don't think the late Queen should have spoken about her horrible year since it was mostly about family matters iirc. The Head of State imo should speak to the Nation about things that affect all of us not themselves personally. Is like to see it dealt with indirectly by giving attention to charities that help victims.

Comedycook · 10/11/2025 14:16

Of course he can avoid it...just don't say anything or make a vague comment about how important principles and integrity are and keep it at that. There's actually lots of happy and nice life events and momentous occasions that they don't reference directly in the monarchs Christmas speech.

He has some wise contacts, I believe. The Dean of Windsor is a sound chap who’ll have a good sense of perspective.

Really? Have you ever met him or heard him speak? He was the one that pressed the wrong button in the House of Lords - he’s a clueless fluffer and a waffler.

Dean of Windsor? Perhaps I’m thinking of someone else then, gave a very interesting interview and was insightful.

I think KCIII has plenty to look back on this last year.

He made long-haul visits to Australia and Canada and attended the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting in Samoa. He also traveled to Poland to mark the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. Then there is his landmark visit to Rome where he and Camilla prayed with Pope Leo. Its such a pity that this has been overshadowed by a black sheep in the family.

GroundControlToMajorTomCat · 10/11/2025 17:24

He’s really rich so I’m sure he’ll be fine

As an atheist Republican, I actually think the meeting with the Pope is a very significant event seen in a historical context. I hope he does mention it.

As another atheist republican, I agree!

I'm a non atheist and non Republican I love it when we agree. Such an historical visit.

I'm embarrassed I had forgotten about the visit to Aushwitz (also that that i think that spelling is wrong) that should definitely be included.

Piccolomaforte · 10/11/2025 20:00

I mean, I’d love him to open with a shrug and ‘Gah, families, hey?’
But seriously, he can’t avoid it.

I would agree with you both and I think there have been some very significant events for KC as Head of State this year. That is the purpose of the Christmas message.

upinaballoon · 10/11/2025 20:31

I would not be surprised if he mentions the 80th anniversaries of VE Day and VJ Day.

When TLQE2 spoke about her 'annus horribilis' it wasn't in her Christmas speech.

CathyorClaire · 10/11/2025 20:36

As an aside, I’m going to petition for FM to become a standard Mumsnet abbreviation exclusively for use on Royal Family threads

Lord.

My immediate thought was 'Fucking Meghan'

I'll get me coat 😂

Good points.

CurlewKate · 10/11/2025 20:54

Wasn’t the “annus horribilis” the year TLQ tried to get the British public to pay for the repairs to Windsor Castle?

Surprisingly enough, she hasn’t been mentioned yet! I’m still waiting to find out what CD and FT stand for, though. Apart from compact disc and Financial Times…,

Yep.

And followed it up shortly after by voluntarily agreeing to pay tax...

What does FM stand for?

Sorry @CurlewKate I forgot to come back to this thread until now, good guess but no prizes for you this time round, Forelock Tugger and Cap Doffer!

I STILL can’t get over him being called the King. It sounds so strange. I’m just so used to him being Prince Charles.

In my head he is "King Prince Charles"
