Andrew, Sarah & a Royal Lodge question

MoondustandFairies · 20/10/2025 00:42

Following some of the news stories about Andrew relinquishing Titles & a more local news story saying that he & his ex wife will continue to live in the Royal Lodge makes me wonder how that can be funded. Can they be made to leave if they can't pay?

It has 7 - or 12? - bedrooms so I expect it requires a bit of mopping & dusting each week - so do A & S also employ staff to maintain the property.

Not sure how old they both are either, maybe close to retirement?? but how do they fund a lifestyle without being propped up by the RF. Which prob won't please William too.
Just my tuppence worth question wondering how non working ex Royals with no marketable skills will pay staff wages & buy groceries.

What an immensely stupid decision by Beatrice. Why didn't she realise how it would come across?

@jumpingthehighjumpi don't think any royal should use their title for profit.

I can imagine harry and Meghan would think...hang on a minute, it's OK for Beatrice then hmmm

FWIW I agree with you

Even if they thought that their logic is faulty. Beatrice has never been a senior working royal. They would have been better advised to have started duties slowly after marriage to see if it was the life they wanted. But that's the past. I think good branded by Meghan Markle would do as well as her current insistence on using her title.

She’s just been appointed Deputy Patron of Outward Bound - with Prince Edward as Patron.

That's fine, a good charity which helps young people.
It's the other stuff...

Is she just not particularly intelligent? Does she not see or care how her actions come across? Edo is a multi millionaire- surely she doesn’t need the money.

Yes, I can't work it out, but Saudi links must be important to her.

Probably like her mother, no amount of money will ever be enough

I think the press are going to try to dig up any dirt they can find on B and E. There have been some very questionable gifts given to them.

MrsEmmelineLucas · 10/11/2025 15:53

I think you're right, @JSMill . There's definitely some dirt digging, notably in the DM, I see.

NewAgeNewMe · 10/11/2025 15:55

Im sure I heard on a podcast that it was the DM that did the digging on Andrew and Epstein, which surprised me.

The DM never dropped the Epstein thing, to be fair to them.

ShenandoahRiver · 10/11/2025 16:05

It was the DM that forced Zara Tindall to change her mind and admit that she did receive £200,000 from Chinese business man Jonny Hon a few years ago. She had previously denied getting money from him for consultancy services.
Why do they lie??

MrsEmmelineLucas · 10/11/2025 16:10

I've no idea why they lie, but I hope the DM keeps digging.

Have just seen this on another thread.

As I said there she's supposed to be some kind of tech guru working for an outfit that went tits up before being restructured.

WTAF is she doing at an investment jolly?!

MrsEmmelineLucas · 10/11/2025 16:26

Who knows, @CathyorClaire . You'd think she'd have the good sense to lie low.

Good sense has never been in the room with these four. Wasn't it Beatrice that thought that notorious interview would be a good idea.

Top true. She actually watched the recording and, if reports are to be believed, still stood by her father.

Because they’re greedy . It’s a simple as that. They are all sitting ducks for unscrupulous dodgy people and it’s a national security issue really. It’s deeply concerning.

MrsEmmelineLucas · 11/11/2025 08:09

Worse than that, even after Andrew initially lost his royal duties, when all this began. both his daughters lobbied KC and PW to get him back in the fold!

Unfortunately I agree.
The royal family system means that children and grandchildren of monarchs are brought up in conditions of absolute super richness with no way to financially sustain that lifestyle so when they grow up they become easy prey for anyone willing to bankroll them in return for lending their aura and connections. But because they’re not working royals there’s no pressure on them to uphold standards of probity. Only working royals should have titles and it should come with responsibility and financial transparency.
I read that when Prince Andrew left the navy he was given (by the state? It wasn’t clear) £250k p.a. which of course was nowhere near enough to keep him in the manner to which he felt entitled.
You can have an absolutely lovely comfortable life on that, nobody needs more, most people live on a fifth of it. Ffs. These people are not special but they are brought up to think they are.

I think the courtiers and sycophants do them absolutely no favours. They are prepared to go to extraordinary lengths to protect them so they think they can do what they like and other people will pick up the slack. If they ha to face the consequences of their actions a bit more often maybe they wouldn't think they could just get away with lying. But I suppose it takes a particular type of person to apply for jobs with the RF and they are their employers, so will only do what they want to, whatever the advice given.

MrsEmmelineLucas · 11/11/2025 09:40

@RainbowBagels good points. Particularly other people picking up the pieces. I don't want to make this about Harry, but I think that's been part of his problem. Someone has always been there to sort it out.

Agree. He's not an outlier. He just didn't understand just how cosseted and entitled his family are. He thought he could survive in the real world without armies of courtiers threatening/cajoling the press and falling on their swords to cover up his idiocy, and he didn't understand that his job as 'spare' is to protect the Monarchy at all costs. He's a product of his family as are Andrew, Zara, Beatrice etc.

Absolutely this, 💯.
He was so cosseted and so privileged he had no idea what would happen when he left. He appeared to imagine that it would be the same, but he'd be "free". To please himself, to make money, to be an American celebrity. To have no criticism and take no responsibility. He's the ultimate example, really.
