How is that better than Bookmark ?
Sorry. Nothing to do with the thread but I've often wondered.

I think bookmarking always takes you back to the same spot. Leaving a post drops you into the updated posts only. I think.

I don't quite understand that.
How do you mean the bookmark takes you back to the same place ?
When I tap bookmark at the foot of this post it will bring me back 2 posts along after I tapped it earlier.

ajandjjmum · 29/11/2025 12:20

I use 'Watch thread' which brings you back to the point where the thread ended when you last looked. Works well for me.

Words · 29/11/2025 22:48

Some of these things work differently or not at all on the app which s all I use.

BeeWitchy · 02/12/2025 11:22

Andrew Lownie has apologised for the Substack article about rose.

Interestingly, in his apology he also wrote that only about 10% of his research was published in his book Entitled. So that would mean there’s more coming about Andrew and probably Sarah. He has talked recently about more people having come forward since publication of Entitled, as well.

Yes I saw his explanation on You Tube. It made sense seeing as he is handling his own job as author and literary agent and fielding about fourteen or so requests for interviews a day I think he said! Plus dealing with updates to Entitled. And he is basically handling all of this himself. Going to bed at 1 am and getting up at 5 am.

It was the fault of a young employee from the US who took it upon himself to try and increase ratings when that was not his remit!

I don’t see how it is particularly damaging to Lownie or the RF tbh. Nothing new was revealed.

And it wasn’t even a mistake made by Lownie himself but someone working for him. OK so his name is on the tin but it hasn’t actually impacted on the accuracy of anything in his books.

binkie163 · 02/12/2025 16:33

I haven't read the book but seen lots reported on here and a few of his interviews. Really atrocious behaviour by A& SF it beggars belief there is more to come but not surprising. A lesson to all those that think they are too high and mighty or immune from public disgrace.

If you watch a thread it brings you back to the same place you were when you finished reading.

If you make a comment and have your settings set to watch any thread you comment on you get the same effect.

If you bookmark a comment it always brings you back to that comment even if you are also watching the thread.

It took me a while once to work out why I was constantly booted back to page 11 on a 20 page thread.

alexdgr8 · 02/12/2025 17:21

I still don't get it.
But there are a lot of things
I don't understand.
So I tend to avoid them.
Re the previous comment by wordler.
You just need to move your bookmark along.

Don't leave a thread before tapping bookmark.
Then you will be brought back to that same post.
Whereas with watching doesn't it just bring you back to the same page you were viewing.
It can't know whether you have already read the first or the last post on that page.
? Can it ?

re Dr Lownie and his substack.
I wonder if it was an attempt to impugn his reputation.
? A young American got ahead of himself.
Or was placed there or induced to cast shade on Dr Lownie.
There were strange things going on with multiple negative comments and also the book's ratings...

Thank you very much for this explanation Wordler I have been having issues with this too!

Sorry if this is a really dumb question but where will you come back to if you don’t watch or bookmark?

(I am sure Mumsnet didn’t used to be this complicated.) I used to just end up at the newest post written by anyone but can’t seem to get my settings to achieve that and always end up having to flip thread!

If you don't watch or bookmark you'll end up on the first page of the thread - whether that's oldest or newest depends on your settings.

@alexdgr8 I find that using 'watch' it knows exactly where I finished reading in the thread and takes me to the next post - it even remembers it across different devices. So if I start reading a watched thread on a computer and then go to my phone it still knows at what point in the thread I was. * *

Same for me

Let's hope Andrew MW is guestioned in an enquiry

Thanks for this @wordler. You weren't to know but I am currently in hospital quite seriously ill and drugged up to my eyeballs so for now I will do what comes easiest. I will return to your explanation when I can. In the meantime grateful,if you would lay off a bit Smile

That's excellent.

I hope it's broad in scope and includes why the daughters have apartments at KP and how a CE Mayfair flat came to be occupied by an alleged fraudster heavily linked to MW with no evidence of rent being paid.

bluegreygreen · 02/12/2025 22:58

I've now seen Andrew Lownie's apology on Substack (screenshot below). I didn't previously have access to Substack.

It differs in essence from the verbal apology in the Vintage Read interview a week ago: no acknowledgement that the story was untrue, and no apology for any distress caused.

He also says that the role of the 'experienced writer' was to bring in subscribers and 'break new stories' - unlike the explanation in the interview, where the writer was apparently only to use information provided.

Interesting - in another interview I could have sworn he refers to the offending writer as female, ‘she’, as in ‘she was immediately fired’ to paraphrase.

This is a very interesting thought!

Lownie said that he has had his phone tapped before now when working on a previous book so anything is possible I guess!

StartupRepair · 03/12/2025 11:28

I have seen Lownie's Rose story being quoted on X as 'evidence'. It was a stupid and damaging mistake and IMO detracts from the real work he did on Andrew..
Poor man so busy being famous and important that he had to outsource his actual work.

Edited

I admire Lownie’s work & journalism but I do have a suspicion he may have written himself & backtracked.

Popbitch reporting that Sarah Ferguson used to have her tab at Selfridges reset no questions asked:

"Even more bad news for Sarah Ferguson, erstwhile Duchess of York.
As well as losing her home and her title, there are untold extra upsides to being Royal-ish to which she’s had to say “bye-bye”.
Sarah used to be looked after by the VIP accounts team at Selfridges. Celebs and the rich and famous have perks with their store cards. And Sarah F? Never once paid her monthly bill. Ever. It was always reduced to zero every month, no questions asked."
