Jeff - I’m sorry - I wasn’t for a minute suggesting that SEN children in general are disposed to be like PA. Two things got conflated because I was typing fast and furiously! In fact I’d say PA has a personality disorder rather than a learning difficulty.

But whatever his capacity, he was sent to good schools and had the best opportunities but clearly failed to achieve. Possibly his parents took little interest in his school progress. It would be interesting to know how QE and PP reacted to all their children’s school reports- did they just shrug?

I mention my experience with a certain type of boy because this comes across from what I see and read about Andrew. I’ve encountered (particularly) boys who, from the outset, are highly resistant to learning and whom it’s almost impossible to engage in anything they haven’t directly chosen to do. I’ve seen this from a range of backgrounds and it may well be a result of parental indulgence - but it did seem almost like innate behaviour.

He still stands out from his siblings, to me, though, and I would like to know what the X factor was!

Edward has matured over the years, his marriage is the only one that lasted so that says something about he and Sophie.
I read an article a while ago about Sophie and it waa said that Diana was very jealous and behaved very spitefully towards her. That somewhat explodes the myth of the "people's Princess"
Sophie became a very close confidante of the Queen over the years x

I remember Edward was a bit of a dick too when he was younger. The spoilt way he dealt with the press after his its a Royal knockout etc. He has matured but he wasn't always a paragon of virtue. Also see Sophie and the Fake Sheikh. Obviously (hopefully) hes not as awful as his brother!

Yes there was something in the article about Epstein saying he'd 'met The Queen'. Well of course he had Andrew invited him and Maxwell to Balmoral to canoodle and allowed them to take pictures on the thrones at Buckingham palace! Its hardly a stretch that he took him to meet The Queen! The Beckham 'Princess Party' is an extremely unedifying story that was just swept under the carpet hurredly like so many things to do with Andrew.

And Weinstein. There's a pic of Beatrice's 18th or 21st party. Weinstein, Maxwell and Epstein all in fancy dress. They were hobnobbing with the royal family. (not in the picture but they were at the party) Who knows, Epstein might have taken QE2 for a twirl round the dancefloor for all we know!

I'm not saying he's not an arse but what do you suggest they actually do?

Well I realise its too late now, but a long time ago, when he was a child, realising that he was going the wrong way. Not indulging him. Making sure he knew that if he pulled rank on adults, whether servants or not, he would be disciplined. Not covering up for his mistakes, not using the Royal Navy and the Foreign Office to try and keep him out of trouble when they created a monster that they were subsequently unable to control. Making it crystal clear that he would be paying for his own mistakes when he destroyed property. Making it clear that servants would not be expected to pander to his demands. Not using legislation to seal embarrassing documents about him for 100 years just for starters. They have almost unlimited time and resources. They have used them to protect and indulge Andrew.

What I don’t get is why the serving government didn’t put a stop to him being Trade Envoy, they knew what he was doing but let him continue, I know it was Her Majesty’s Government but the Queen should act on the instructions of said government so why was he allowed to continue unabated for ten years?

I have asked myself this question too. It makes successive governments look very weak, and without the appropriate focus on the UK's good standing internationally.

TheAutumnCrow · 04/08/2025 16:48

Maybe some children just never heard (or hear) the words ‘don’t you dare behave like that’ or similar, followed by the debrief parental talk about decent manners, other people’s feelings and alternative ways to communicate/behave.

@CoffeeCantata, it’s fine no need to apologise, I wasn’t offended!
just pointing out from my personal experience ( my children are totally different from each other!) that he didn’t seem to behave in that way!
sometimes now we try to find a clinical reason for bad behaviour, because it’s so contrary to the way we behave!

sometimes it’s simply a case that someone is in fact a nasty individual! , or they are unfortunately stupid! 🤷‍♀️
no other reason than that!

I recall a theory about Andrew is that QE2 treated him as a special, indulged child because he had a different father to his siblings
The late Queen, allegedly, felt that she owed it to him, and that having Edward was to provide home with a playmate closer in age
Could be some truth in this; one cannot but notice the difference in PA’s looks and build

I don’t believe that personally, three reasons,
1 Phillip was an old fashioned man with “outdated “ ideas ( no disrespect) , there is no way he would want to raise or treat another man’s child better than his own!

2 Andrew does share certain features with his family and genetics give many variables in the same family.

3 Edward was also apparently coddled and treated in the same fashion, he has at least managed to grow out of his behaviour.

Do people really believe that the late Queen would have been unfaithful to Philip?

Ah…you see, I thought that was petulance, naivety, dimness and lack of self-awareness. I remember it well and it was might cringeworthy. But it didn’t and doesn’t strike me as being of the same order as Andrew’s behaviour. Silly little Edward thought he’d done a cracking job and wanted the journalists’s approval.

I remember watching the Windsor Castle fire on the news while it was still burning and Andrew was bellowing orders to the staff about rescuing artefacts etc (I assume they were staff - or maybe he thought he could tell the firefighters what to do?!) in the most obnoxious way - it really made an impression on me. I was only young but I thought ’ What a horrible, horrible ungrateful man - why doesn’t he get stuck in and help them?’

I’ve always thought these two were different types and Edward has always seemed a bit pathetic, with a terrible charisma deficit, but basically a fairly decent man.

  1. Prince Philip respected the late Queen and Monarchy: he accepted the situation and dealt with PA as he would his own biological son. PP, allegedly, had many affairs, so couldn’t have the moral high ground
  2. PA has some similar features to his siblings, but he is so different in so many physical ways
If you look at images of his alleged father, PA is the double of him. PA daughters look so much like alleged grandfather 3. PE possibly not as indulged as PA; different genes, different outcomes My views only; could be completely wrong

I’m sorry but no !
whether Philip had affairs or not ( it hasn’t been proven!) .
there is absolutely no way a woman as devout and conservative from a practicality Victorian upbringing would have an affair and conceive a child!
not to mention her devotion to Phillip!
viewing the older royals through a modern lens is a mistake! , the values and what was excepted for a man’s behaviour compared to a woman were vastly different then !
this is just idle and frankly cruel gossip on par with the rubbish about Harry’s paternity!
and that’s before we get to the legalities of the LOS !

Honestly!
I find these rumours as distasteful as the ones about Harry , Meghans pregnancy and talk of “yachts “

yes Andrew is a complete knob but he’s still the son of the late queen and Phillip!

Not cruel or idle gossip, a theory based on visual evidence
None of us will ever really know the individual members of RF; only what the highly skilled PA team feed us
Am looking forward to reading the book
