Jeff - I’m sorry - I wasn’t for a minute suggesting that SEN children in general are disposed to be like PA. Two things got conflated because I was typing fast and furiously! In fact I’d say PA has a personality disorder rather than a learning difficulty.
But whatever his capacity, he was sent to good schools and had the best opportunities but clearly failed to achieve. Possibly his parents took little interest in his school progress. It would be interesting to know how QE and PP reacted to all their children’s school reports- did they just shrug?
I mention my experience with a certain type of boy because this comes across from what I see and read about Andrew. I’ve encountered (particularly) boys who, from the outset, are highly resistant to learning and whom it’s almost impossible to engage in anything they haven’t directly chosen to do. I’ve seen this from a range of backgrounds and it may well be a result of parental indulgence - but it did seem almost like innate behaviour.
He still stands out from his siblings, to me, though, and I would like to know what the X factor was!
