Netflix deal is over

  • Both decided a statement won’t be released “Publicly, there will not be a statement and of course, if things change dramatically, they’d be open to a one-off project down the line.”
  • Talk about Paramount plus

It’s been pretty obvious for a while. No talk about the Archewell productions arm, the film they were making etc.

How long can As ever last when they won’t have NF to back it up with WLM infomercials.

Odd article.

Predicting likely demand from a small sold out batch sounds rather imprecise. Seems more likely to be another aspect of NF shaking the dust.

I'm quite sure some exec will be along to spill the beans at some point 😁

I think he'd do a Spare 2 in an instant if the money was right.

That said there are reports PRH got their fingers burnt so I think any deal would be with a smaller publisher offering far less lavish terms which would basically bring about the same result (ie no book) but by a different set of considerations.

Aha..and I suppose, as well as more trawled-up childhood resentment, he could pick up where Spare 1 ended and whinge about all the nasty press they’ve had since then, the cruel world ‘s misunderstanding of sweet, kind Meghan and her subsequent sobbing fits, their lovely tours, the and the mean way Pa has continued to ignore them.

Plus more digs against the Waleses too. Definitely enough for another volume!

I was quite struck by how castley it all looks...

Very good spot Cathy!
I’ve never seen these pictures before ( honestly I’m not that interested in others houses) , it does resemble a budget version of somebody without much clue , what a royal castle and grounds looks like!

and on closer inspection those copper pans are not even real copper! They are plated the insides ( carefully positioned) are standard aluminium! 🙄

I quite like what you can see apart from the kitchen. It's like being in the Olive Garden restaurants.

🤣🤣 , I now understand why American posters refer to it as “the olive garden “ online!
I did wonder! 🤣

Don't forget we're still waiting for Bill Simmons, @cathyorclaire, and his idea of "getting drunk one day and telling about Harry's ideas" Grin

I've no idea if Paramount are now circling or not, but if anything came of it at least we might be spared "Look what they've got!!" this time.
Somehow I can't see the few remaining fans taking the risk after what's happened before ...

I thought As Ever and Netflix were separate. It makes it sound as if Netflix was maybe taking a cut of the profits or would get some sort of payout if it were taken up by a supermarket chain.

The crowing about the show , particularly the excitement about “sparkling water in scrambled eggs “ 🙄🙄( don’t get me started on that again!) and how we were all shown how stupid we were, by no longer present posters was , I admit a source of second hand embarrassment for me!

I thought it was a 4 book deal ? If so where are the other books ? Was The Bench one ?

BasiliskStare · 24/07/2025 16:48

@CathyorClaire Thanks for those photos of the house.

It's not my cup of tea but apart from the matter of the $14m (which in my case I have not got - naming of parts etc - & I am more of living somewhere I can pop to the corner shop , walk to the drs etc - but my preference - not everyone is the same)

That house strikes me as a sort of 1920s Gloria Swanson , old Hollywood glamour sort of thing ( albeit reconstructed. ) I can see why they might like it. If it's just under 7 acres , I have a friend with a house in Hampshire who has 6 acres and she wouldn't call it an estate, more of a massive garden at the front. Anyway it doesn't matter - they like it and that's what matters to them - but they do need to factor in upkeep etc from their own money.

I am curious to see what's coming down the line for them. I would not like to think KC would bail them out a bit. Even from private money - because ( whilst I support a constitutional Monarchy - I am not oblivious to the fact that private wealth gets passed down IHT free from Monarch to Monarch. (& I think this would bear better scrutiny)

I'm going to be fascinated to know where they turn next for proper money. It may be one of M's investments will pay off - all good if so

I’m trying to imagine cleaning 16 bathrooms!

Vespanest · 24/07/2025 16:56

Time will tell if this is Netflix also pulling out of As Ever as they appear to be providing the personnel. Does the option of first look mean they are paid a retainer? I've wondered if the figures behind the selling of as ever products was more to do with site visitors than sales. It must be a kicker to have not broken the states, they only needed a percentage of the population to make a really good living. I don't understand the UK meeting, they would of known this was coming and now it's looks like desperation.

AtIusvue · 24/07/2025 17:06

I’ve got a funny feeing that it’s all over for As ever too.

She quit the podcast, Which was about her founding her business, in June and she went quiet on insta thereafter. She was quiet through the wine launch too. With no more NF advertising her business….it makes no sense to drop the podcast.

She will obviously be back for WLM2 and the next drop of products in the Autumn but I think it’s just a matter of running the course. I can’t see it lasting more than 12-18 months to get through the drops of products.

She isn’t keeping her fanbase sufficiently engaged, the aesthetic of using average Joe influencers is ruining the ‘elevated’ look she’s going for, she’s not committing to posting on SM which you have to do if you’re creating a new brand, the shopmy experiment has ended, there’s articles stating her wine sales were poor (there’s no wine for resale to be found anywhere so must have been a small batch)

@JSMill this is off topic but….

from the time I was a little girl my heart was in Kenya and I wanted to live there one day. I think it was the influence the RC church had in my life but it could equally have been Daktari. 🤣

Fast forward years and I met my husband who’s not a Kenyan, he’s Arab, but lo and behold he’d been brought up in Kenya. Oman has a history on the East Coast of Africa as well as a few other countries and here I am living my life with Kenya (and Tanzania) a huge part of me. I never thought one day I’d have a tri-lingual husband, children and grandchildren as well as a huge extended family/friends/community around me who speak Swahili and make me feel as if my childhood dream came true. Even after all these years I still get emotional when I go home to Mombassa. Anywhere in Kenya actually.

It’s funny how things work out.

Your aunty must be quite some woman to have worked for the UN and I hope you get to Kenya one day.

@WeepixieWhat a lovely story. We have a friend who worked in Tanzania with a mobile phone company and he said it was a great place to raise a family.

Apparently they got $20 odd million for the book deal . Harry obviously 'wrote' Spare and he's is meant to do one about other aspects of his life (Invictus) , Meghan is meant to be doing one on wellbeing, not sure what the 4th is.

The fourth is the tome that is The Bench, a tale in verse to rival Spenser's 'Fairie Queene'.

CoffeeCantata · 24/07/2025 18:01

@BasiliskStare

I’m with you on not wanting KC to bail them out. They have enough to live a comfortably wealthy life, and that’s all they should expect. They are not entitled to live like royalty - they rejected that - and A-list lifestyles have to be earned, not just handed to them on a plate.

There are an awful lot of things that they were “meant to do”. Weren’t they supposed to produce content for Netflix under Archewell? They were “meant to” create podcasts for Spotify and Lemonada. So the book deal is just the same. They were “meant to” write 4 books. Only they haven’t. Seems to
be something of a pattern 🤔

Could you explain what the strategy of using average Jo influencers means?
And how that impacts her brand?
I don't understand social media use for business.

Didn't she say NF were providing the staff for As Ever? I'd presume they'd pull that if there's no connection to a Netflix show anymore. At least after season 2 streams.
So she'd either have to go it alone and get her own staff or wind it up.

Mylovelygreendress · 24/07/2025 18:28

Does this mean she won’t be selling stuff in Netflix stores ?

Snorlaxo · 24/07/2025 18:30

I think we can expect season 2 and the store pop ups but after that, they need to convince NF on a project by project basis rather than have a contract that they have to fulfil.

He's already revealed it: Harry's pitch was that he would interview influential people in the world - and here he name-checked Putin, Trump and Kim Jong-Un - about their childhood trauma and how it's influenced their adult lives! Simmons's real shock wasn't that Harry thought they would actually play ball. It was that Harry has no "in" with any of the people he name-checked, he just expected Spotify to procure these people for him, write the questions for him, and for him to be the one sitting opposite these people asking these questions. That's where "grifters" came from.
