It reminds me of a mare in heat backing up to a stallion

When you put it like that….

Ha 😁

Great minds 😂

What is the future of Invictus though? The origin of Invictus was because there were so many wounded veterans from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. The fighting there is now over and the injured veterans are getting older. How many will keep wanting to come back? I know the government are talking about military preparedness but I can’t see us getting in a major ground war so we are unlikely, thankfully, see wounded veterans in the future on the scale we have seen in the last couple of decades. I can imagine interest dwindling.

IMHO, the issue with Invictus is the money. Most of Invictus budget is UK taxpayer money. But the UK taxpayer is stretched and even worse the Invictus venue (Birmingham) is bankrupt.

UK Defense needs an overhaul (just like all major armed forces) as warfare has changed dramatically with unmanned drone usage in Ukraine and other ongoing conflicts. The UK also faces eye-watering increases in defense spending to meet the target of 5% of GDP agreed to by NATO allies this week, so further pain for UK taxpayers.

If Defense needs to cut non-core spending to reallocate to new weapons platforms, Invictus funds may be on the chopping block. Without a deep-pocketed patron who can raise enough private funds to hold the games, Invictus may simply fold.

JSMill · 26/06/2025 20:37

@My2cents1975excellent points about the funding. I can’t believe they are still planning to hold it in Birmingham. I can’t imagine the residents are very impressed given they are still dealing with piles of rubbish and rats.

CathyorClaire · 26/06/2025 20:41

I can't believe we spunked £26m to do so 😡

On a different note - NY Post is running a story that Prince Harry 'feels regretful' and 'wishes he'd done things differently'.

The quotes are from a 'prominent royal author' - I assume not directly from the Sussexes as the article says they've asked the Sussexes for comments.

Ongoing slow rehabilitation of Harry?

'Harry is a sensitive soul' Larcombe told the magazine. Did I get that right? Really. Well, there we are. So he's going to invite them to Invictus in 2027. I read it here, first.

I can’t help feeling he’s making it known that he’s inviting his father so that if Charles doesn’t go it will look like Charles is being petty. Harry thinks that will feed the victim narrative and earn him Poor Little Boy points. I think increasingly that his identity is tied up with being the Poor Little Boy walking behind the coffin. He had the eyes of the world on him and everyone thinking how terrible, how tragic, how brave. He hasn’t moved on from that emotionally.

Meghan at the polo in the green tent dress was one time I felt sorry for her. She looked so clueless and lost with the new baby that it was quite relatable.

It's really quite hard to imagine that had the initial multiple suckerings landed translated into the ongoing $$$ envisaged Harold would have had any regrets at all.

I would have said he's extremely insensitive.

DanceLaDuca · 26/06/2025 21:41

Now the world has seen Meghan Markle twerking, she will never be able to stand at a podium, or sit on a panel, and deliver a speech without the twerking image being the first image people see of her.

40 million views and probably 90% were grossed out by it.

KateDelRick · 26/06/2025 21:45

Or the ludicrous Harry, gyrating for the camera, his hood up, dancing for the camera at groin level 🤮 🤢

Hmmm…”sensitive “. I think that means he can dish it out but he can’t take it!

See, that was when I first truly thought she was full of it, and playing for sympathy (although I admit I disliked her from the start, with her stupid wellies in Kensington and being so unkempt and arrogant at the engagement announcement). She looked like she had deliberately chosen an outfit that made her look desperate and terrible beside neatly groomed Catherine. I felt it was a blatant manipulation, of our view of her but also our view of Catherine. I thought that Catherine is a kind person. She is a polite person. She is a person who also knows the cameras are on them. If Meghan's 'desperate mummy' routine were genuine, there would gave been some response from Catherine, who, even if she disliked Meghan would be kind to the baby/offer to hold him/invite Meghan to join her and the children. It never struck me as genuine. But then nothing Meghan does strikes me as genuine. Ghastly woman.

Edited to add - she wasn't a woman struggling to cope on her own, who didn't have time to brush her hair. She had nannies. That performance was particularly unconvincing.

BasiliskStare · 26/06/2025 22:31

From above article "Insiders say the father of two will be emailing invitations to Buckingham Palace this month, which will later be followed by formal invitations nearer the time. "
I fondly imagine KC's diary secretary briefing KC on the "save the date" email. "Shall I tell the bumptious ingrate you're busy that week , sir?" 😂

Thinlyveiled · 26/06/2025 22:48

I see them busily organising a short tour for those exact dates.

HonoriaBulstrode · 26/06/2025 22:51

'Foreign Secretary? This is Clarence House. Who do we owe a state visit to? Yes, July 2027 would suit admirably. I'll put it in the diary now.'

I think it's all to do with money.

There were rumblings in Canada that Invictus sponsors were unhappy that the event was turning into the "Harry and Meghan show" rather than celebrating the veterans. Especially since the disabled competitors have to individually fundraise their own travel and accommodation while Harry and Meghan fly in on private jets, are put up in 5* accomodation with security and Meghan changes outfits several times a day. Two of the top chiefs of IG Canada were allegedly sacked for voicing concerns that that the Sussex's expenses were putting a huge strain on the IG budget.

Therefore I expect that potential sponsors are demanding William and Kate, and the King in attendance as a condition of handing over the cash - like the glory days of 2014 where the Charles and William attended for several days, but let Harry take centre stage.

So leaking these "invitations" to the press is just an attempt to yet again manipulate the RF by attempting to blackmail embarrass them into attending and making to clear that Harry won't be fobbed off with Prince Edward.

Would Prince Edward even go? I’d be surprised.

MrsFinkelstein · 26/06/2025 23:01

The thing I also keep in mind about that polo match @PigglyWigglyOhYeah is that Catherine had all 3 of her own children to look after, and Louis was a small toddler. Why was it her job to help Meghan out?

And even a 1st time Mum is capable of sitting down and cuddling her baby if she wants, or putting the baby in a car seat or pram for a while.

When I was out with my newborn twins I didn't expect friends to look after mine as well as their own.

It was nice when it happened but I never looked for or expected them to - especially when their hands were already full!

If the U.K. is so unsafe ,surely it is unlikely that Meghan will attend.

If there was a Classics thread for the funniest and most unexpected descriptions ever made on MN that one from the Prof would be at number 1.

I even had a palpitation when I read it 🤣

Quite. Three little ones to manage, everything calm and under control, while the person with the immobile baby is acting like she’s wrestling a polar bear.

Motherhood didn’t seem to come naturally to her . I get the impression that Doria also struggled .
