He was such a sleaze-bag...I remember wondering what on earth she saw in him

A glittering summer on Daddy's millions 🤑

Uricon2 · 24/06/2025 20:17

You are not wrong @wordler. I remember my late DH coming to bed late and saying that there had been a car crash in Paris and Dodi and Diana were dead. Got up, watched news, nothing on her status and me saying "well it sounds like she's just injured but she's alright" and DH saying "It's what they're not saying, they're not saying she's OK". (He like my now DH had been a journalist)

Got a few hours sleep and woke up to the radio coming on with the news. I was her age more or less and think that made a difference. I'm not ashamed of sobbing into a tea towel that afternoon when the Radio 4 announcer introduced the Elgar cello concerto played by Jacqueline du Pre with "another woman who died too young" and then breaking down.

That week following was the strangest and most febrile (in a public sense) I've ever experienced or want to again.

CathyorClaire · 24/06/2025 20:17

There suddenly seems to be a whole spate of articles about W's plans for the monarchy, who's in. who's out, who's shaking it all about.

Just me wondering why?

CathyorClaire · 24/06/2025 20:26

The only way Harry will ever be brought back into the family under William’s watch is if he positively grovelled to Catherine for what they unleashed on her. It will never happen.

He'll never back down but he'll always be looked after.

BigWillyLittleTodger · 24/06/2025 20:27

Just me wondering why?

William is marking Harry’s card, just a taster of what’s to come bro!

I disagree.

I think it's just because it's been William's birthday and Catherine's low profile means they don't have stories to run about her in the way they would have done if she were attending lots of events.

He’s marking Harry’s card by saying your kids have no future here, once Meghan dumps Harry William him might let him use Nottingham Cottage and gift him a new dog bowl but that’s as far as it will go, there is no Royal role for any of the Sussex family, William is making that known.

DanceLaDuca · 24/06/2025 21:10

I think Harry wants a 'working' Royal option for his kids, so they can, if they choose to, benefit of high profile Royal events, such as state dinners and state visits, etc. Lilibet getting access to the magnificent jewels and the option for the kids to marry in a very royal manner in a church that only Royals can get married in, their LA celebrity status and no amount of money would get them into St. Pauls church with a carriage procession etc, maintaining their royal credentials is what will keep that door slightly ajar for them. Harry will desperately want that option for his kids.

I agree! Yes - she seems very cagey as they wait for the car and his arm creeps round her waist. Ugh.

He was such a sleaze-bag...I remember wondering what on earth she saw in him - she wasn't short of money. I'm sure the influence of Mohammed Fayed, manipulating and pushing them together, was a factor.

Attention. She was actively courting attention from the Press, Hasnat Khan and the RF. who does that remind you of?

I suspect you may be right. I’m not sure how generously however. I doubt the King will ever meet his American grandchildren but I would bet there are Meghan-proof trust funds already in place for them.

BasiliskStare · 24/06/2025 21:13

I absolutely agree H is never going to go without a roof over his head whilst KC and PW are around - they just won't see him on his uppers. How far their largesse will extend in the future is a different question , but he will be OK. Which is why I think H took utter financial security as a given and didn't realise just how much money you need to guarantee that. Clearly it depends on your own way of life / aspirations - his inheritances would have given most people that many many many times over - but having everything paid for , never paying bills etc I think that is something H didn't really think through and M just had her head turned by huge fame and the RF connection & the big deals.

Re William , on a tangent I do think that beard make him look a bit like Gareth Southgate ( just me? ) . I think that's OK as GS comes over as a nice man and did a better speech on Children and SM than H has ever done. Also my (ahem) very tiny claim to fame is I once spent a short amount of time in an office where GS's father was the office / building manager and he was a very very nice man.

Also PW and the puppies - back of the net as a photo (IMHO.)

I suspect karma is going to be a bitch for Harry and Meghan when the children come of age.

I think Harold is on our the payroll and always will be but that's different from permitting a future public role that would go down like a cup of cold sick.

As I always say we've never seen a royal on their uppers yet.

I don’t disagree, I do think he’s in for a massive pay cut when BigWilly takes over though! 😂

There is also the question of what Big Willy will do about Uncle Andrew when the time comes. An ageing batchelor bothy for him and Harry in an obscure corner of the Balmoral estate wouldn't be a bad idea.

Edited for typo

Nothing but they will do less damage in a remote place ☺

StartupRepair · 24/06/2025 21:58

I know much of the Monarch's estate is passed seamlessly to the heir after death, but Charles has huge personal wealth so I imagine several hundred million will be on the way to Harry once Charles is gone.
I also think Meghan will stay in the marriage to this point.

Scotland definitely doesn't deserve that!

Honestly, bung the pair of them in BP - no one seems to want to live there. London is an easy place to hide in plain sight.

Charles and his advisers aren’t stupid, Meghan won’t be getting a sniff of those millions.

She'd love to live in BP. Can you imagine? What a prestigious address!
