Royal Ascot 2025 - Carriage Lists

I did this last year and there was a reasonable amount of interest, so happy to do it again for each day of Royal Ascot.

Today’s list

Zara looks fab in monochrome.

Is the Marshioness of Salisbury taking a selfi? She talking during the national anthem! Now sorting her gloves out. Is she wearing a raincoat?

Zara looks stunning. Camilla looks lovely again.

I laughed at the woman in the first carriage whipping her phone out to take a photo. I think she forgot where she was!

Oh - not a raincoat. A short jacket but doesn’t really go with the dress.

I think Zara must have a new fashion adviser. Definitely upped her game in recent years.

I actually think Camilla looks boring. It’s just grey/lavender nothing much. The Times had a go at her hats today. The Queen got into a rut with her hats that were just different colours and trims on basically the same design. She’s had a go with a bright colour for one day!

I was pleased to see Zara wasn’t ’Mrs Mike’ on her name tag, so I’m imagining the carriage lists are prepared by an old fashioned flunky.

Zara looked great and Charles very dapper- although I didn’t think he looked well today.

I thought Charles looked frail. They both look 10 years older than they are.

I'm 30 years younger than them and if you could see me... It really is very hot.

I would hate to have had to get all dressed up today. I picked the floatiest dress I could find for work today and even though I stood under a tree with a hat on during 1/2 hour break duty, I had a pounding headache afterwards. I can’t imagine how someone 25 years older than me wearing a suit copes.

And a three piece suit at that!

If C3 and son are really interested in modernising the monarchy they might not do too badly to ditch this charade.

Horse racing is an inherently cruel sport. Poor optics.

Combining it with baking in and then choking on your own attire is unfathomable.

Yeah umbrella instead of a walking stick. Don’t think anyone expected rain.

There was a lovely segment on the news with the Duchess of Gloucester w ho chose a new designer and was wearing his hat in the carriage ride.

What I found depressing when I watched it on tv (apart from overheated horses) was the amount of plebeians curtseying or bowing to Charles. It makes me cringe and I would never do it if my life depended on it.

The first thing he should’ve done as king was said no more bowing and curtseying.

I agree. And, seeing as he didn't, I hope William does that.

Edit to add: I suspect I wouldn't mind so much if it were a nod of the head but I dislike that it's gendered and the curtsy looks so... I don't have words but hopefully you know what I mean.

@CathyorClaire It’s not remotely cruel for horses bred for racing to race. It’s natural for them. It’s a truly athletic horse that races at the highest level and they are very special. Uncared for poorly bred dogs are a much bigger issue.

@FragrantJasmine You obviously didn’t watch all the tv coverage did you! A vet explained about horse physiology on a hot day. They are not overheating. Any more than the best runners overheat at the Olympics.

I think he looks like Humpty Dumpty without the beard and far more distinguished with it.

Who has choked on their own attire?
If the monarchy ended tomorrow, Ascot - and all other horse races - would continue.
I suspect that there would be a presidential carriage ride instead.
