Is anyone watching the VE Day parade?

My goodness, George has really shot up.

William has drawn the short straw and has Louis next to him. He’s been very patient considering he’s just spent the last few minutes tapping his shoulder trying to get his attention whilst William was talking to a veteran 🤣

The burden of doing public duty will one day be the lot of the 3 Wales children, they do very well already in circumstances that must be quite dull for them. I wonder what the deal is? They must be promised various things as rewards at that age.

FinnJuhl · 05/05/2025 13:31

Funny you should mention the Queen and hayfever. I have just walked down the Mall, and so many people are having sneezing fits, me included. The pollen is intense today!

I’m sure Mike Tindall said they had loads of sweets during the jubilee celebrations. At least his kids did. Maybe they have a secret stash to keep them quiet 🤣

Not a royalist but if we should all be saluting anyone, it is the veterans and all those intelligence officers and civilians who played their part. We all owe them a great deal.

PrettyFlyforaMaiTai · 05/05/2025 13:40

Lena had sweets during the jubilee celebrations. Love Zara and Mike’s style of parenting 🤣

I am led to believe that my father did the same. Unfortunately he died when I was 17 and I had never asked him about his experiences - wish I had.

Edited for type

I'm loving the press talking about Louis copying George's hair flick. He looked like he was just taking the piss to me 😂

Notquitegrownup2 · 05/05/2025 14:05

Did anyone else stay watching the interview with Ruth Klauber aged 101! What a wonderful speaker and amazing woman!!

Kate looks stunning and Charlotte seems very likeable and confident, a happy princess to be reckoned with as she gets older and established in the RF. George and William looked a bit glum, I wonder if that's just the photos they chose to publish today. Louis is a very sweet boy.

The lady who was just interviewed was remarkable. 101 years old and still so articulate and bright and charming and humble. What a woman! She refused to take any domestic jobs and became a mechanic instead. The Dr who was interviewed next was also incredibly articulate and came across so well, talking about her great grandfather.

She was amazing. I’d love to talk to her. I really miss my dear mum, who would have been 102 this year and was in the WAAFs as a Morse code operator. We used to talk about her experiences of being stationed at Group 5, Bomber Command. Lost her 5 years ago 💔

Does anyone else think that George looks very like Eugenie and Beatrice?

I often think George is inwardly thinking OMG, is this what I have to do when I'm older and POW/King? No wonder he might look glum now and then TBH. It's not a life for a teenager to ponder is it?

Yes they were all well behaved and as i said it's good training. I think though it's brave to have them there knowing that the press will be agog waiting for anything they can write about.

Not just the press. I have seen horrible comments about Louis online. Very often, when I check where the person is from, they are from the US.

Yep, loads of them. Harping on about that one time at the jubilee celebrations he got really bored and a bit naughty and briefly raised his hand to Catherine. Claiming he needs a good beating for it.

Horrible stuff.

MaryGreenhill · 05/05/2025 14:23

I thought it was very emotional and wonderful for the veterans and their proud families . Tim Spall was excellent.
The RF were very involved and lavished attention on the vets fair dos to them .
The Wales children were very good. I thought how lovely Louis was, brushing his Dad's uniform free of petals bless him. All in all, a fitting celebration.

i like sophie's outfit

I thought was horrible.

Pink gingham clashes with the solid strong colours the others were wearing

To be fair, most of us have to suck up dull elements of our jobs. I'm sure their vast fortunes/part time hours/domestic help/chefs/luxury holidays etc will soften the blow for them all.

It looked very much like a Holland Cooper coat, albeit tailored somewhat.

Uricon2 · 05/05/2025 14:31

Watching the young people from the Boys and Girls Brigades etc at the end made me think that most are probably very close in age to many who served in WW2. The Ukrainians also looked so very young in the main.

Weefreetiffany · 05/05/2025 14:32

I had the deeply cynical thought that it was very clever of them to put the older gentleman behind the king, it made him look fresh and sprightly in comparison. Hope his health issues have resolved. We always love seeing the aeroplanes fly by

That's true, but money never compensates for lack of quality of life compared to your peers. I know George will have everything material he could ever want, but most of the RF are damaged in some way or other possibly due to the lack of freedom to just BE a teenager/young adult without constant scrutiny.
