Harry's new interview 2

Viviennemary · 03/05/2025 13:19

I just thought I would start second thread since I noticed the first one is full. It has certainly dominated media reporting. I saw a snippet on Sky news earlier. A document from Harry saying its a dereliction of duty to stop his security. Erm who just whizzed off to the USA and left all the duties behind. I havent watched the whole interview. I wonder if he'll appeal again.

As said upthread, Anthony Armstrong Jones was the Earl of Snowdon. His son was Viscount Linley, and now his grandson is. You're identifying the wrong person.

Sloppy drafting on my part. Apologies!

Choux · 05/05/2025 14:31

Being someone like Vogue was her initial plan when she was scouting around for a wealthy man in the UK. But when she got a sniff of a title and global fame as well as wealth she was all in with Harry. Saying she was looking for a kind man was just a way to cover up her gold digging.

So she wanted to rush to the altar for the fame and status. He wanted to rush to the altar in order to get over the ‘humiliation’ of Cressida dumping him and put himself back on a more equal footing with his family man brother. He was smitten and she knew how to act smitten.

No worries - I just didn't want you accusing the wrong person of cross dressing! 😊

I bought a (very small) Linley piece for a friends big birthday a few years ago. It really is lovely and the giftwrapping..!

David and Sarah were in exactly the same position as Archie and Lili will be (niece and nephew of the monarch) and I hope they can follow their example of building sensible lives that suit them because the plain fact is they are not going to be important in Royal terms and the same would be true had H&M not left. Harry however had a chance to have a real role supporting William and he's blown it.

Edited

Yes, in the longer term H&M's relevance would've dropped, as they aged, as W&C's children grow up, etc. But they'd have probably had a good 20 years of being highly relevant, high profile, representing first the queen and then the king on the world stage, doing royal tours, meeting world leaders, being feted wherever they went. Even Meghan, who seems to think she's superior to everyone COULD have had a role that surely far exceeded any expectation she might've had for her life when she was younger. Before she met Harry she was after Ashley Cole FGS! A divorced former footballer who was notorious for cheating on his popstar wife. And yet she's thrown all that away to be an influencer with a laughably bad lifestyle program and a handful of podcasts that everyone says are crap!

😄 It's clear in my mind that PM's husband AAJ is the man cross-dressing.

The Kitty Kelly chapter on them is full of gems like that. My favourite is the account of a dinner party at a house in Eaton Square at which AAJ puts a brown paper bag on his head before the first course is brought in. Everyone sits through the first course without saying a word. When the plates are being cleared, PM asks 'Why are you sitting there with a bag over your head?' He removes the bag and replies: 'Because I can't stand the sight of you.' Excruciating to watch for the hosts and other guests.

Kitty Kelly's 'The Royals' suggested the initial attraction between PM and VL was a mutual love of cross dressing. Despite this and other preoccupations, they have raised two sound and successful children, each highly successful in creative fields (high end furniture business and painter). Like the Tindalls, they are there as role models for Harry. The trouble is that he lacks talent.

To be fair neither are academic. They had fantastic opportunities at the gloriously expensive cool kids favourite, Bedales .Harry seems much the same intellectually only he went down the military route. He might have been less of an arse becoming a farmer or doing something equestrian

Is there an academic member of the Royal family? I can't think of one.

Harry does seem to have a flair for interacting with children. Possibilities there? A below-the-line poster in The Times suggests he join the California fire brigade. 'Service is universal'.

Oh dear. I've heard other excruciating tales of their behaviour, in particular AAJ's bitchy remarks to her; "You look like a Jewish manicurist and I hate you".

Always good to throw a bit of racism in.

PullTheBricksDown · 05/05/2025 14:54

By my reading of the definition, Harry would have qualified if representing the King or in his household (i.e. a working royal) but not otherwise (section 5 of link)

And this explains the rationale for the 'half in half out' proposal. Not out of a desire to continue serving the Queen or the British people (or even 'collaborate with' them 😬) but to be doing royal duties on a minimal basis that would be enough to qualify them for IPP status. Luckily the late Queen didn't come down in the last shower and was well ahead of this.

Indeed. Snowdon was a deeply unpleasant character.

It really is a case of ‘be careful of what you wish for’ in bucket loads for both of them. Unlike H I think M has ability to charm birds from trees & she’s superficially liked by Montecito movers & shakers. He could really crash & burn I fear in time.

MrsLeonFarrell · 05/05/2025 15:33

Even The Guardian seem to have lost patience.

The issue of H and M used to be pretty divisive but I have barely seen a single supportive comment about H’s interview on any social media platform. I even heard the shadow Home Secretary call him ‘entitled’. I don’t think I have ever heard a senior politician express a negative opinion about a member of the RF and I think that’s because he doesn’t regard H as one any more. Contrary to what H thinks, your status can change.

BasiliskStare · 05/05/2025 15:54

Has there been any US newspaper / media coverage of the result of the court case or is it not of wide enough interest , given it only relates to him coming to the UK. I wonder if those like @BemusedAmerican in NY ( ie people who live there) might be interested as apparently the NY Mayor gives H&M NYPD protection when they are in the city. (I think I'm right there). Perhaps they could start giving him 28 days notice of visits. Or indeed just rely on their own security.

The Guardian don't have a pay wall. You have to choose the window that is asking for money but then it should be available

That's a point i hadn't considered before but I think you are correct, Harry really isn't treated like a senior royal anymore, or even a member of the family. He is the only one who thinks he has the same status.

No problem. They make it look like you have to pay it's tricky.

MrsLeonFarrell · 05/05/2025 15:59

The Times had a weird piece by Libby Purves, i can't link as i don't know how to do that archive thing, but it basically said.

Charles and William, you are happy, Harry isn't so the onus is on you to reach out and be generous and forgive. He will probably repeat everything you say in public and still behave badly but you should do it anyway.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 05/05/2025 16:01

That's interesting, @JSMill; I'm only on this one, but though all the previous H&M fans seem to have decamped I expected they'd all congregate somewhere else

Seems not though ...

Although the Guardian have a less forthright article on it by Zoe Williams titled 'Why are the royals such bad communicators?' So they can see him as in or out, depending on the perspective. That one seems a bit unfair to me since the others haven't gone on national tv to complain about their lot any time recently.

I missed that one. Nice to know The Guardian are still playing both sides!

I agree with you, the bad communication is only coming from one side.

I found the article. It was a Zoe Williams special, unfocused, badly written and, ironically, communicating nothing clearly!
