And also like it or not (I’m in the I couldn’t care less) some people at the garden parties, will want to be mixing with the royals, for glittering of the stardust.

They’d be happier with the York princesses say, than a bog standard representative hence the wheeling out. Same applies to Peter Phillips and Zara Tindall I’d say as they also ‘royals’.

Keeps them in the fold without the need for them to be working royals and the public happy.

Yes, I think those are good points.

Absolutely. They may have wanted more (or Daddy did?) but they have young children, that's passed by now, they have the best of both worlds, they can be all royal at race meetings and other royal get togethers, and no official duties. It's the fun bit isn't it...
And I have just remembered they sit in the royal box at Wimbledon. Lucky!
(4th year of no tickets in the public ballot for me!)

....and the line becomes a little blurred between family events (where they would be expected to be invited) and Royal Family functions (where they most certainly wouldn't be representatives).

Yes, or anywhere someone would go to without responsibility eg church or a horse race.

Samcro · 19/05/2025 09:20

imagine you get to go to a royal garden party and you only get to meet the tindals or yorks. I imagine it would be rather disappointing.
I would never think of Zara's husband as royal. (his name escapes me)

I think some wouldn’t care. Some would.

BigWillyLittleTodger · 19/05/2025 12:44

I would be happy to meet any of them at a garden party and certainly wouldn’t be disappointed, I like Beatrice and I like her style these days, same goes for Zara, rugby fans would probably be delighted to meet Mike Tindall.

I agree, although maybe better than going and meeting no one!

Iirc they were all wheeled out last year when Catherine and the King were out of action. At least it wasn't Andrew!

They were not "wheeled out". What official duties did they perform? Apologies if I have missed that they did so.

They attended the garden party and circulated talking to the guests, the Yorks and the Tindalls. These are duties that members of the Royal family perform at garden parties and which they don't usually carry out. I don't think this is strange as it was a year when official working royals were very thin on the ground and during the last Jubilee the Yorks at least turned up at street parties to shake hands.

They aren't working royals of course but they do occasionally attend events that I think can be classified as royal duties.

BigWillyLittleTodger · 19/05/2025 13:33

Well I’ve not read of any complaints from people who actually attended the garden parties that Beatrice and Zara were “wheeled out” so I think we can presume that guests were quite happy to not only see the King and Queen but the well known extended family too, I bet it relieves the pressure on Charles and Camilla and I’m sure they are grateful to their nieces and nephews to help out particularly when there is no obligation on their part.

upinaballoon · 19/05/2025 14:25

When it's the Royal Ascot meeting, there's a carriage procession every day. Various people ride in the carriages, usually different ones on different days. Are they all guests of the King? Is he allowed to invite whoever he wants? Is he allowed to invite Beatrice and Eugenie to come simply as guests?

TulipTiptoer · 19/05/2025 14:36

Charles can invite who he wants. However, it is always known as a royal carriage procession, they are guests of the Monarch, and have lunch at Windsor Castle beforehand.
Ascot publish who will be in carriages beforehand... Barons, Marchionesses, Earls, Dukes, Lords, Duchesses, Sirs, Ladies.... all the posh people 😂

Right. So no official duties. At the most a chit chat at a garden party.

I wasn't saying that they have now been moved into the working royal category. However attending the garden party to chat to guests is an official duty, albeit a very minor and infrequent one. I doubt we'll see them there again though.

Why are you so concerned whether what they do is classed as a royal duty or not?
They will do the odd thing here and there, but only if Daddy (or indeed Mummy!) doesn't disgrace themselves again I imagine!

I always wonder if they've had time to floss their teeth between lunch and getting into the carriages, and what about the blusher.

I think a servant applies the blusher, with a special piece of equipment He's called Groom of the Tool.

I'm not. I just wondered, as you seemed to be. They do a bit of royalling, does it matter whether it's classed as official duties or work or just a fun freebie!

I think my point is that I suspect that the RF would like to keep the Yorks at arms length, for obvious reasons, but also because they're a conduit to Harry, with the possibility of him merchandising more gossip.
.

TulipTiptoer · 19/05/2025 16:04

That's quite a stretch!

If that were the case I think they would be out in the cold. And they certainly are not!

It's not "a stretch". Could anyone trust Harry, bearing in mind his money making strategies? Perhaps they're just careful to make no comments that Harry could, shall we say, gain from..

Samcro · 19/05/2025 16:17

its funny that they would rather have the yorks around and mike who does stuff like Im a celebrity.(and is a sleaze) yet not Harry,
i would be disappointed if I went to a garden party and just got to meet them.
not that there is any chance of that happening.
