How will the Royal Family end?

The Royal Family will end. Not yet obviously. But within the next generation.

People often assume institutions like this fall slowly and gradually. We see a bit of that already happening with the reduction in "working" Royals, far less favourable poll results than when Queen Elizabeth reigned, and the willingness of the media to be more critical of the Royal Family.

I have seen people commenting assuming this means the Royal family will end soon. I think they misunderstand what is happening.

But society is changing and the deference that Queen Elizabeth attracted can no longer be taken for granted. Colonies are no longer happy for the Royals to carry out cosplay colonial tours on their soil, and increasingly they will remove the King as their Head of State. But I think when the end comes it will be sudden and unexpected. Similar to the fall of the Soviet Union. A clear weakening of the institution, but then a sudden, and shocking fall.

The aftermath will be very messy though as the Royal family try and fight for as much of the states wealth as they can, using the courts if they need to.

Being older doesn’t mean you can’t be glamorous!

@PrettyFlyforaMaiTai Oh come on! No one would describe Camilla as glamorous.

I think the four people who reacted to my post (two likes, two hearts) disagree with your opinion.

polinkhausive · 14/02/2025 16:20

I really really like Camilla's style..

BasiliskStare · 14/02/2025 16:21

@JoyousGreyOrca Oh I think Camilla looks glamorous in the photo posted at 14,24 by @PrettyFlyforaMaiTai - opinions may vary 😊

TulipTiptoer · 14/02/2025 16:29

Well.... A massive tiara dripping in diamonds or the priceless jewellery she is adorned in would make even me look good and that's saying something

JoyousGreyOrca · 14/02/2025 16:39

Samcro · 14/02/2025 16:16

it will be interesting to see how things will pan out now they have only got 7 working royals (K&C/PAnne/E&S/W&K)

Edited

No. And they will be seeking ever more money.

Indeed their greed may hasten the end.

Well quite. I suppose that makes the royal family extremely glamorous then. No need to worry about a 96 year old or 77 year old woman lacking the glam factor as the original poster hinted at. They don’t need to rely on Catherine being the glamorous one, since they have an abundance of jewels at their disposal and that’s what makes one glamorous. So I wonder why Catherine is so popular then, if it isn’t the glam factor?

@PrettyFlyforaMaiTai By the time the kids no longer need the school run, there will be other excuses for why they can not do more work.

is there any chance you could PM me this weeks lottery numbers ? Your clairvoyant powers are truly remarkable. It seems you can see the future and know everyone's thoughts and motives . Remarkable.
It must be draining pouring out so much hate on a woman who has been so ill . Your agenda is so transparent.

Samcro · 14/02/2025 17:02

I actually think Camilla is glamorous.

Reetpetitenot · 14/02/2025 17:02

How do you know this?

I'ndeed their greed may hasten the end.'
What do you mean by greed? Is it that someone else has more than you? Is it that people make wise investments? Is it that people spend their money on things they like, whether that be a new handbag, a horse, a house?
Are you amassing money as you get older? Many do, it doesn't make them greed.
eta should have quoted orca post above about amassing more wealth

Absolutely no hate at all. I just notice that Catherine and William both avoid any work. Even Queen Elizabeth asked what Catherine did.

But that's just not true, is it. They don't 'avoid any work'. Hyperbole does not a realistic argument make.

Greed means wanting more and more. In real terms the amount of money they get, and the number of mansions they can use keeps increasing every year. And yet there are fewer and fewer engagements. How much is enough? It seems there is no limit.

They routinely have a very low number of engagements, even before Catherine's cancer. Apparently it takes two of them to do the daily school runs.

JoyousGreyOrca · 14/02/2025 17:09

And it would not matter if younger people supported the Royal family. But the growing indifference means their lack of engagements does matter.

They don't do as many engagements as some other members of the family but I see no evidence they avoid work. They are choosing to priorise their family and work at projects that are meaningful to them. I see nothing wrong with these choices for people who will never retire.

Both Charles and the late Queen have been criticised for being distant parents who clearly focused on their duties outside the family. We are told this screwed up their children. Now William and Catherine are being criticised for being present parents and creating a different work/ life balance.

Since they will get negative feedback whatever they do I'm glad they are making intentional choices that support their children who have a public childhood to navigate.

This in triplicate

Many younger people are becoming indifferent to everything except celeb culture. It's not a good reason to jettison our constitutional monarchy 😂

'They routinely have a very low number of engagements, even before Catherine's cancer.'
So your previous post was untrue then. And you do realise there's more to their work than public engagements, don't you?

JoyousGreyOrca · 14/02/2025 17:18

@MrsLeonFarrell Being there for your children does not mean both parents doing every school run, being off work every school holiday, and doing maybe two half hour visits a week - unless it is something fun like a sports match.
If they were on benefits, the government would insist they worked more hours.

Even going by their instagram account this is an inaccurate reflection of what they do.

Wanting them to do more is a valid opinion, I don't agree with it.

They are not on benefits, they don't have normal jobs and I have no idea how much work they do in a week. In the same way I have no idea what a CEO does in a week, or a politician. Atypical jobs that are part public and part private are hard to quantify.

TulipTiptoer · 14/02/2025 17:26

Why is it always interpreted as 'hate' if there is any criticism of members of the Royal Family.

We are allowed to question them. I know those who are totally pro all members of the royal family dislike the criticism but I am sure we can accept others' points of view. Even if we don't agree.

I have said on here, I think William and Kate have a poor work record (before Kate's diagnosis) I appreciate there is young children in the mix, but it does not take two doing little. I especially think this of William given his father is 76 with ongoing cancer treatment. I don't know why he doesn't do more. That is not 'hate'.

JoyousGreyOrca · 14/02/2025 17:26

They include internal meetings and even phone calls in their reported engagements. Please do not pretend they are doing a massive amount of work behind the scenes.

OP posts:
JoyousGreyOrca · 14/02/2025 17:27

@TulipTiptoer I agree. I think William doing less than his elderly father who has cancer and is receiving ongoing chemo, is just a terrible look.
