I don't think we're done talking - and I never start threads!

As you were!

At the New York Times Dealbook Summit last month, he said:

I know why people have settled. They've settled because they've had to settle. So therefore one of the main reasons for seeing this through is accountability because I'm the last person that can actually achieve that. And also closure for these 1300 people and their families.

And the accountability he is seeing is the public apology

Thedom · 25/01/2025 22:43

You can find it on youtube, I think somewhere in the first third of the interview with Andrew Ross Sorkin.

I wonder what would happen if all the momentum re Harry won/did not win etc was instead targeted at NGN?

I feel like we are looking for accountability in the wrong place.

WTAF are you talking about? That doesn't even make sense?

Most of us wanted NGN held responsible for their awful behaviour. Harry said he was the knight in shining armour who would achieve that. He didn't. So we and Harry were on the 'same side' in wanting accountability, but that didn't happen.

So where else would you be "looking for accountability"???

NGN did not win either? Unless you count the continued concealment of their nefarious activities as a "win"!!!

He hasn’t seen it through, he has settled just like everyone else. That’s not accountability for the other 1300 people.

JoyousGreyOrca · 25/01/2025 22:43

That's bullshit. The public apology does nothing whatsoever to punish those who behaved horribly, and authorised others to do the same.

BigWillyLittleTodger · 25/01/2025 22:47

It wouldn’t surprise me at all if Harry thought the British Royal coffers would pay if it came to it, I think that’s what gave him the confidence to say he would never settle, the whole of Harry’s life someone else or the tax payer has picked up the tab for absolutely everything, that’s why he’s fighting RAVEC, it’s inconceivable to him that he has to put his hand in his own pocket for anything so that blind is probably spot on, found out he’s on his own if he doesn’t settle so had to cut and run.

Accountability and punishment are very different things.

Well if that's the case*, then he failed those 1300 other people, didn't he. NGN only apologised to him and Tom Watson. Not to anybody else. Where's their apology? Where is their closure?

which it blatantly isn't, he wanted his day in court and for actual, named bigwigs at NGN to be held accountable on the evidence put before the judge, with a court order in his favour naming them responsible for illegal activity.

NotaRealHousewife · 25/01/2025 22:49

How the hell do you know what Harry views as accountability?

mainecooncatonahottinroof · 25/01/2025 22:49

JoyousGreyOrca · 25/01/2025 22:27

Louis is 6 years old and was already being labelled as mischievous from 4 years old. He just seems like a young child to me.
Charlotte is labelled as a caretaker of the other two boys. A nauseatingly sexist stereotype.

So what? It's only press bullshit and based on the small amount of time they're seen in public.

The media won't define them!

@BigWillyLittleTodger Oh come on! He is not that thick. His father will not even meet him. Why would he give him millions and millions of pounds

JoyousGreyOrca · 25/01/2025 22:48

Accountability and punishment are very different things.

The one is a sequitur of the other.

As far as I can see, Harry wanted their behaviour exposed. He failed to do that.

There is some absolute blubber being spouted on here this evening.😉

@IAmATorturedPoet that's being polite

mainecooncatonahottinroof · 25/01/2025 22:53

Bet you are having a whale of a time, though!

JoyousGreyOrca · 25/01/2025 22:54

The concepts accountability and punishment are very different.

I was told many many times that I could not say Harry has won his court case as only a judge can pronounce in court if someone has won and lost.
And suddenly punishment and accountability mean the same things??

Cambridge dictionary - Accountability, the fact of being responsible for what you do and able to give a satisfactory reason for it, or the degree to which this happens:

Punishment - the act of punishing someone:
Many people think that the death penalty is too severe a punishment for any crime.
formal It was always our father who administered/meted out punishments.
Drink-driving is one case in which severe punishment seems to work as a deterrent.

happen

Edited

Do people seriously think anyone at NGN gives a shit about some unnamed PI's getting the blame?

No liability was admitted. The heavy hitters at NGN will go about their lives in exactly the same way today as they did last week. No slain dragons are to be found in the offices of NGN.

But I think we've got to the 'simply make stuff up' stage of the evening.

How do you know that?

Do you know if they are in contact? Seems odd if they are NC given Harry's rush to fly here to see his father immediately after his cancer diagnosis? Do you think there's been radio silence since then?

The Queen bailed Andrew out apparently when he needed it. Who's to say Charles wouldn't do the same for Harry? He doesn't strike me as a vindictive man?

It was all over the press that Harry was not invited to the extended family Christmas lunch. There are constant articles that Harry has not been invited to the latest family occasion.
Charles is not going to hand out millions and millions to Harry who he will not see.

'Accountability' implies justice and punishment, otherwise what is the bloody point?!!

Unlike you, I don't need to look the words up in a dictionary!

"It was all over the press"... 😂

That "press" that you are so condemnatory of? Do you have no sense whatsoever of irony?

Hilarious!!

Do you think the King shares his guestlist with the media?!😂
