When will pointless King abdicate

IhateHPSDeaneCnt · 14/01/2025 07:15

in favour of another bastion of the Monarchy? Loathe them all but assume it will take another generation to allow them to bow out in some sort of graceful manner - and hang onto loads of Titles, Land, Jewels, money etc. How has someone given the title of 'Queen Consort' i.e ex Mistress is now referred to as Queen and bestowed privileges e.g being allowed to allocate Royal Warrants? Don't know how she's got the gall to wear jewellery that previously adorned previous incumbent let alone the late Queen. Luckily, she does bugger all but retire to the home settled in the Divorce, smoke fags, drink Gin and Dubonnet (smells just like Granny!) and ensures stock of fully functioning Mont Blanc Fountain Pens are to hand - ready to be despatched to King at the faintest sign of a tremulous lip.

Poor old Phil the Greek. He was never able to acquire the title King Consort was he? And they talk about equality!

I know, I know, there are rules about titles and Queens regnant and Kings regnant and all that mullarkey, but still, he must have been raging about Camilla the Queen Consort.

I doubt it. He knew how the whole thing worked. Albert had the same issue with Victoria. I think Philip was probably most upset that the late Queen ascended to the throne so early in her life. They really had very little time as a young married couple before then and he had to give up his naval career

SleepingStandingUp · 16/01/2025 09:59

For those saying she's no queen, what is it that makes her intelligible to be one? That they had an affair? But you're not saying Charles should abdicate for the same reason. If it comes out Wills did have an affair, are we saying he can't be king? If Kate has a fling with a school-gate Dad but they patch up the wedding is she ineligible? Exactly what are the made up rules?

Hoolahoophop · 16/01/2025 10:23

Rules change @SleepingStandingUp its hard to keep track of them.

Best just to choose your own set of preferences and then get annoyed when the 'firm' doesn't play by your rules. Its part of the fun of monarchy. Gives us common purpose, something to complain about, quite goof for uniting the nation at times of trouble, or boredom.

Yes I know that, but it's also been documented many many times that Charles has dropped the Consort title. Let's face it, she is no queen! But yes I am very aware of how it works, thank you.

But he hasn't dropped it. It's used just as much as it was expected to be. Same as was with Queen Mary, Queen Elizabeth (mother of QE2) and will be with Queen Catherine. All of whom were/will be Queen Consort too.

So clearly you don't know how it works

Well he clearly has. And it's well documented, but you don't need to be nasty. Take care.

He's only "dropped it" in the same way as every other king has "dropped it". It's never been used as the day to day title. It was never a special title given to Camilla or intended to be used with her with a different emphasis to every other previous Queen Consort.

Halavonna · 16/01/2025 10:40

It is a bit of a niche interest this consort thing regarding the King I'd say.

Ask many in the street what Regnant is, and they might think you'd forgotten the P at the start of that word.

Keep it all mysterious and complicated. That'll keep the peasants in their place!

Uricon2 · 16/01/2025 10:40

I'm amused that some people see hereditary monarchy as some sort of beauty contest where everyone needs to meet the standards of a Disney film to be eligible.

The late QE and certainly Princess Margaret were regarded as "fairytale Princess" pretty in their youth, but the truth is for a fair chunk of British history, the most important attribute of a monarch was being good at fighting, with ideally a few diplomatic skills thrown in. The second part of that still holds.

Added pressure really, you've now got to meet some film star ideal of beauty for your whole life, but I suppose that reflects society in general. I doubt Edward I was over bothered what anyone thought of his looks.

I don't think declining standards in education and understanding can be laid at the monarch's door.

So, in other words, you didn’t really understand how it worked 😊

Well I didn't go to Marlborough or any other public school, not Royalty or rich you see. But I got the results I wanted which turned out to be better than those of any Royalty prepared to reveal theirs!

No bait taken as to my understanding of all things Royal though 😉

Now there's a cause they could financially contribute to. Yay!

Neither did I. I don’t think a public school education is necessary to understand a basic premise of how monarchy works in this country. Or a bit of Latin

As I said, keep it all mysterious so the peasants don't ask too many questions.

I noted with amusement the speed with which Charles signed the documents or whatever was required to become King. The Queen wasn't even cold. I thought to myself... hmmm get it done quick Charles before anyone says NO!

As opposed to what? Taking a few days on holiday to chill out first?

The entire process is about immediacy. Thinking Charles did anything unusual or unexpected in that regard is just very silly. It's really not that mysterious at all.

He didn’t need to sign documents to become King. He was King the instant the
late Queen died. That is how a hereditary monarchy works 🤷‍♀️

Who was going to say that?

I've noticed a lot of anti monarchy posts on mn recently. I know a lot of people aren't supporters of the monarchy, but the sheer number and frequency makes me think this is a concerted campaign of destabilisation from a foreign power.

lol yeah Mumsnet is the way to bring down the monarchy

No, her position is Queen Consort

And the title that goes with that position is, as it has been for every holder of that position, HM The Queen or HM Queen (name)

Where has it been "documented many many times that Charles has dropped the Consort title"?
And let's face it, she actually is the Queen because she's married to the King.

The sense of humour button in your Royalist brains has obviously been switched off. Typical though of sycophants and apologists.

I have a great sense of humour about things that are actually funny. However, you initially claimed that you understood all about
how the monarchy worked and it’s titles, thank you very much, but when it was shown you didn’t, you resorted to lols, ha ha I was joking 🤨

eta it’s nothing to do with having a “royal” brain either. It’s about knowing how our constitution works. But you know that
