Just seen on Sky News. Breaking News headlines. Delayed because of the wild fires didn't say if this was technical difficulties or it would be a bit crass to launch a frothy type lifestyle show with all the devastation. Anyway it might be shelved for good with any luck.

It's a great photo and she is lovely in that colour

Yes, she looks so good in bright, clear colours such as turquoise, yellow and red, and simple, unfussy designs. I don't think she has worn anything so good since they left (or even before - I really disliked the green outfit at the Commonwealth Day Service).

Around this era I’d have followed them anywhere. Bought whatever they were selling! The fame level they had ready to convert into any empire they wanted was insane.

I'm not sure. Neither has any real talent or other marketable attribute. Away from the royal allure, their appeal would have faded as they entered middle age.

That's not to say they couldn't have managed their exit way better and build up some sort of post royal 'brand'. Their biggest mistake was publicly cutting ties with the royal family. If they hadn't done so, they could have been a much more famous Stateside version of the Tindalls. But I don't think their post royal life was ever going to be the massive money spinner they envisaged. The days of untalented individuals being endlessly rewarded just for being famous are over. And that's a good thing.

You have to wonder how he could have been , and still is, so woefully ignorant.

Let's just say Harry's never been known for his intellect.

If instead of asking, 'what did you think of it / did you enjoy it?' and having a bit of a huffy

Eddie's huff will never grow old 😎

QuimCarrey · 31/01/2025 20:54

They kept the titles which pissed off royalists.

And also didn't impress non-royalists. I'm one of many who has no great love for the institution but also dislikes selective criticism whilst having your cake and eating it.

Oof the vicarious embarrassment I feel from that ... is not comfortable

Ohpleeeease · 31/01/2025 21:47

He didn’t handle it well but he was pretty young, out of his depth really.

WeCantGoOverIt · 31/01/2025 21:56

I maintain that on their own merits the shine could have been maintained. I mean, not the merits we’ve seen them have, obviously.

To do that they would have needed to have maintained a mixture of discretion and just enough endearing stories about Royal life to keep interest. Never criticism. That would have meant they could have maintained good relationships with the rest of the family and keep their royal-adjacent status. It would have been a slower but longer burn but no £100million deals. But they needed people around them to advise them of this and write their speeches with endearing anecdotes for them.

Baital · 31/01/2025 22:02

I can completely understand why being working royals wouldn't work for them (or anyone!).

I can completely understand why they would change their minds about it once they faced the reality.

But I think they are dishonest to blame their decision to have the big wedding and be working royals - with the constraints that brings - on the RF, when it was their choice.

MissRoseDurward · 31/01/2025 22:30

Yes, the Queen suggested to Meghan that she could continue with her acting career, which suggests there was no pressure on her to be a full time working royal. Or perhaps the Queen realised very quickly that M wouldn't be a success as a working royal and was offering her a dignified alternative. But they had to 'hit the ground running'.

Mylovelygreendress · 31/01/2025 22:35

If they had had their way , the wedding would have been in Westminster Abbey or St Paul’s. Harry himself said that and scoffed at the suggestion they get married in Tetbury or somewhere like that .

MissRoseDurward · 31/01/2025 22:48

I thought it was a lovely wedding. I really liked the informality of the guests all walking down to the chapel. One was able to see who was there and what they were all wearing.

Given that the second son of the Queen, Andrew married in Westminster Abbey I can see why Harry thought that way.

Anne was also married in Westminster.

But they were the children of the Monarch. Harry was just one of many grandchildren..

The Heir - Charles was married at St Paul's.

So Westminster was a "step down".

As William & Catherine were married at Westminster then it wouldn't be appropriate for a similar scale wedding, especially when the bride had previously been married.

I mean, H&M still had a huge wedding - £32M. For someone, at that time 6th in line to the throne, the wedding venue was entirely appropriate.

Munnygirl · 31/01/2025 13:31

Oh please

My response exactly.

The thing is, no one yet has seen the cooking show. We all saw a promo for the show. People can be forgiven for thinking they did see the actual show because the media reviewed the less than two minute promo as carefully, and as fully, as they’d review an actual show.

It was a promo. Quit a number of journalists and sm commentators seemed to forget that in their race to find fault with it.

Thedom · 31/01/2025 23:31

Well if the promo is shite, there can't be much hope for the rest of it methinks!

I’m not saying St George’s was not a suitable venue. It was lovely.

I can see why Harry thought the way he did, though.

That was years ago!

Harry was marrying a divorcee. His father didn't get the 'big church wedding' second time around because they were both divorced.

Bit weird - why would he think he should be treated like a child of the monarch when he wasn't?

Wigsonthe, Harry wasn’t divorced. Honestly you seem to take such offence at any opinion that is different from your own.

Don't be silly. Meghan was!! There were reports that the Queen was shocked at her wearing white.

I am not interested in your opinion of me.

Jacquette · 01/02/2025 05:10

There were reports that the Queen was shocked at her wearing white.

I don’t think so. I’m sick of the media generated rubbish. We are no longer living in Victorian times and Brides often wear white the second time around now.

The Queen wasn’t a stupid woman. She’s seen it all with her own children’s behaviour. People like to put their expectations of how they think she thought, and what she liked, onto her. What she did or didn’t like, was mostly seen through the prisms of other people’s beliefs. It’s actually a form of attempted control.

We were told over and over again that the Queen didn’t wear trousers and ‘frowned’ upon the royal women wearing trousers. Yet, there are images of her wearing trousers. And those images aren’t all when she was at home on the farm.

I am not interested in your opinion of me.

Good. That’s healthy.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 01/02/2025 07:01

God I still remember watching It’s a royal knockout. And Edward’s reaction. My mouth on the floor. I have done plenty of embarrassing things in my time thank the lord no evidence remains.

Had H&M dished a little ‘gossip’ in a fun way, on either Oprah, NF or in Spare (not all 3) and not complained about their alleged treatment, they could still have been party to royal events. And have star power. Instead it’s clear they have been sidelined.

William will be king in the not too distant future, and a sibling is not as forgiving as a parent. Shortsighted imo,
