The royal family

With Love, Meghan - criticisms and genuine concern for her mental health

Lavenderfarmcottage · 05/01/2025 16:34

I am probably going to be flogged for posting this and chased down the dark laneways of Mumsnet as bystanders yell “Shame Shame Shame”.

I weighed in yesterday about a thread on Meghan and her new Netflix show. I made some criticisms about the trailer and certain cliche’s in the way it was produced. Hypocritical of me to be posting this but I feel guilty and have reflected. I am actually looking forward to watching it on Netflix and my criticisms were pretty minor and not exclusive to her show - it’s a common issue I have.

Meghan has struggled with mental health because of criticism. The reaction to ‘With Love… Meghan’ has been fairly brutal.

I think it would be really good if we refrained from saying anything negative about the series or Meghan Markle. That’s not the point of this thread.

I want to know if you think the criticisms have gone too far. The Princess of Wales is not on the scene and we are protective of her rightly so. That leaves Meghan as media fodder though.

Do you think it’s time Meghan and Harry were given a break ? I do. I think we’ve been far too harsh and the criticisms have gotten out of hand.

I think we also forget the cultural relevance. If we went into the homes or Gwyneth, Julia Roberts etc and I would probably feel the divide too. American culture doesn’t apologise for wealth and hollywoood is highly competitive.

Having a confident demeanour, throwing your head back Julia Roberts style when you laugh and unapologetically selling $$$ vagina products like Gwyneth Paltrow is how it over there. People talk loudly and confidently and are polished and rehearsed especially in the
Competitive world of Hollywood…

Are we all being too hard ?

Maybe to you but I don't find spoilt rich men who whine about their lot, are abusive to their polo ponies and are as arrogant and rude as Harry (have you seen how he speaks to people?) attractive.

But lots of women would and do find him attractive. Especially before he met Markle. It’s just laughable to suggest she MUST be a golddigger for being interested in a man who is attractive, was very popular and was a very eligible bachelor.

On the racism accusation do you mean?

Which 'racism accusation' are you referring to?

Didn't Harry later say they had never accused anyone of racism, and tht that was all lies from the bRiTisH mEDiA?

I'm just trying to clarify other posters' points regarding vitriol and lies.

Says who? Were you there? This is why does my head in. You’re all calling them liars when you don’t even know the other side of the story 😂 for all you know it could all be real. Utterly bonkers so many people are willing to die on this hill and you have literally no idea what’s real and what isn’t.

The Archbish married them before the actual marriage.

Archie didn't get a title or security due to his skin colour.

I think there are 17 provable lies in that interview. And then one big bullshit one about Harry's father and sister in law being racists and "concerned" abut how dar Archie's skin would be which absolutely no one with any sense believes.

She made tv shows before joining the RF, why should she stop, it's her career. She was bullied by the RF and the press and I love that she put two fingers up to them all

I hope you don't think it's reasonable doing Oprah shafting the Queen's family when her husband is on his deathbed ? I expect you may have forgotten that little beauty.

Cause Phillip was such a prince....
It was a headache the Q didn't need, but give her the credit she deserved. She had very broad shoulders and weather far, far worse. Her family was and remains a shit show.

I'm just trying to clarify other posters' points regarding vitriol and lies.

And I'm trying to clarify yours.

You said "On the racism accusation do you mean? I have a strong sense that she was."

But as I wrote above, Harry denied that there was any 'racism accusation' and as always blamed the 'British media'. So I guess you think he was lying then?

The Queen suggested she continue her career. She didn't want to.

So, no "two fingers". How crude.

ThatRareUmberJoker · 05/01/2025 20:18

Meghan doesn't see it as negative feedback all comments and criticism is good. If no one talked about them then they can't promote themselves that's showbiz baby.

Dweetfidilove · 05/01/2025 20:18

Whatever the matter, I'll be watching the whole thing.
I can't find the energy to hate a woman whose husband adores her enough to give up so much for her; and one who apparently contributes to many humanitarian causes.
I watch far less worthy people on Netflix, so...

In your opinion.

There's no such thing as a perfect family.

You should read up on Prince Philip. You might be amazed at his range of interests and abilities.

FedUp2025 · 05/01/2025 20:18

I just couldn't care less about these people and have absolutely no time to even think about them

Horserider5678 · 05/01/2025 19:56

To be honest, even if was to be an absolutely amazing show, it would still be panned! I find it incredible that so many people can invest so much hatred into someone they neither know or are ever likely to meet.

You are another one who doesn't seem to get it. You can come on here, see a thread about anything and post your opinion on it. It doesn't mean you are obsessed or consumed with anything. I will come on here and say I hate the fact that Meghan is a liar but I don't think about her the rest of my day 😂 Maybe you are mixing up YOUR devotion to the cause and think this is how others live.

Nordione1 · 05/01/2025 20:18

Tittat50 · 05/01/2025 20:10

Do you mean about the RF? I kind of understand. Harry just wanted someone to hear his experience, so did she. I can understand that. Was it wise? No. Much better in this situation of theirs to quietly walk away IMO, for their own benefit, not because they're necessarily wrong.

He can't remember his own experience!! He was off his face for much of his younger years as he told us. He's had a good crack at making a few things up, stitched up a few women and had a punt at hoping he wouldn't be caught out completely forgetting that he is Prince Harry and therefore most stuff can be verified. Or not.

pelargoniums · 05/01/2025 20:18

I think both things can be true: they told some lies during the Oprah interview. And the British Royal Family is a racist institution. Remember Princess Michael wearing the blackamoor brooch to lunch with Meghan? Meghan is imperfect but why does she have to be perfect to be a victim?

AndThereSheGoes · 05/01/2025 20:19

Mmm. But the problem is there us no truth or authenticity with either of them. We aren't privy to any if their actual thoughts on race, privilege, Trump, African politics or any other subject they bring up but the gloss over
The late DofE was picked up on comments he made but to say he was a racist as if that was his defining quality is unfair.

She didn't want to it's in her blood she's American so I don't know where you got that from.

But she's brown so the UK media can criticise her for doing the same thing as pearly white princess Kate who can do no wrong. (see the avocado incident)

When people have the confidence to be honest about the racism then we might see some change but until then the media knows they can continue to bait the many gammon that read Daily mail.

I thought he was a catch before he married and thought lucky girl to Meghan. His horrible personality has put paid to that now, he seems very ugly to me now. I can’t stand the sight or sound of him. He’s worse than her. I feel for her that he’s her ‘man’, yeuch.

itsstillmehere · 05/01/2025 20:22

I've never seen so many new names, so many people who are obviously not British and have no ideas of lands, titles etc today. I think this has happened

Are there threads and SM commentaries with the same level of passionate hate, upset and anger towards Prince Sweaty Tits Andrew? Or Charles who had dubious dealings and an inappropriate friendship with his bezzy Jimmy Saville? Charles who has clearly earned a fair whack at the expense of the tax payer and probably more that we aren't aware of.

I would love to see that online data gathered. I'd hazard a guess that MM comes out significantly worse if this data were available.

I have a lot of sympathy for them. The royal family sound toxic AF and that was long before Meghan entered the scene or before Harry was even born. But neither Harry nor Meghan has coped well with the family's generational toxicity and they were not the only ones. Many family members have struggled over the decades, but stayed in the family because they had a pretty good idea what would happened to them if they left.

Meghan and Harry did leave. I guess they thought it was the lesser of two evils. But being as high profile as they already were, they will forever be targets. The will be targets for those who love the royal family and they will be targets for the press.

Many of us have left toxic families ourselves, but we can retreat into obscurity. The whole world doesn't know and doesn't care. We don't have to say anything and we can just go on with our daily lives and struggle in private. Meghan and Harry don't have that luxury. What is left of the privilege they had, does not protect them the way anonymity protects the rest of us. Privilege does not make you bullet-proof. However, being high profile means that every mistake gets put under the microscope by every asshole with an opinion and a social media account.

I generally like Mumsnet, but the way people here are gleefully dumping on Meghan and Harry makes me cringe.

No one forced to go on Oprah or write a book. If they wanted the 'luxury of privacy' then that's a funny way to go about it.

That's why they left to live in America the dailyfail only prints stories the British public want to read.
