With Love, Meghan - criticisms and genuine concern for her mental health

1000 replies

Lavenderfarmcottage · 05/01/2025 16:34

I am probably going to be flogged for posting this and chased down the dark laneways of Mumsnet as bystanders yell “Shame Shame Shame”.

I weighed in yesterday about a thread on Meghan and her new Netflix show. I made some criticisms about the trailer and certain cliche’s in the way it was produced. Hypocritical of me to be posting this but I feel guilty and have reflected. I am actually looking forward to watching it on Netflix and my criticisms were pretty minor and not exclusive to her show - it’s a common issue I have.

Meghan has struggled with mental health because of criticism. The reaction to ‘With Love… Meghan’ has been fairly brutal.

I think it would be really good if we refrained from saying anything negative about the series or Meghan Markle. That’s not the point of this thread.

I want to know if you think the criticisms have gone too far. The Princess of Wales is not on the scene and we are protective of her rightly so. That leaves Meghan as media fodder though.

Do you think it’s time Meghan and Harry were given a break ? I do. I think we’ve been far too harsh and the criticisms have gotten out of hand.

I think we also forget the cultural relevance. If we went into the homes or Gwyneth, Julia Roberts etc and I would probably feel the divide too. American culture doesn’t apologise for wealth and hollywoood is highly competitive.

Having a confident demeanour, throwing your head back Julia Roberts style when you laugh and unapologetically selling $$$ vagina products like Gwyneth Paltrow is how it over there. People talk loudly and confidently and are polished and rehearsed especially in the
Competitive world of Hollywood…

Are we all being too hard ?

🤣
Yes. Yes anyone who doesn't go along with abuse must be Meg herself, or her PR.
🙄
Batshit.

"Abuse" you say? The battest-of-shittery I have ever encountered.

😂😂😂 its true. I think I distract myself with this nonsense so that I don’t need to think about my own life.

I do genuinely want Harry and Meghan to be back in the UK and a reconciliation.

I think the world is becoming brutal and unforgiving and forgetting warmth. It wouldn’t be nice if a bridge could be built.

I think they've burnt their bridges with their "tell alls", no way back. I wish them luck for the future, but you don't go airing family laundry and not suffer consequences.

As for "poor Harry", Frogmore is not 2 cottages, he was supported by the Duchy of Cornwall purses, and Meghan did not do same job as Catherine, who one fay will be the queen consort.

Saying that, I might watch the new show, I need all help i can get when it comes to cooking and hosting. I don't see the reason for negativity against the show, H&M have to warn somehow. On the other hand, I disagree that Meghan sacrificed great career, her success in film and TV was limited.

Nobody's "fair game" for constant abuse.

Criticism is not "abuse"!

Are you trying to infer Meghan wanted Windsor castle for herself?
If you believe that I think.its you that's being naive
People make up all kinds of crap about her and others believe because they want to think the worst

What do you think about the recent investigation by The Hollywood Reporter (serious industry publication) where 12 separate past and present exployees were interviewed and exposed MM for repeated bullying of her staff? Do you think that they were making this up?

Lavenderfarmcottage · 05/01/2025 16:40

Though she gets more criticism than most actresses or celebrities and it’s usually very personal.

That's probably because she made a show calling the UK RF racist as her grandfather-in-law lay dying. If you can't stand the heat don't go into the kitchen - US saying, I think?

If you can't see that calling someone 'no benefit to the human race" amongst other gems on here isn't just "public scrutiny" then you're part of the problem.

BunnyLake · 05/01/2025 19:38

Tell that to Harry and Meghan. Their behaviour towards the late Queen was horrible. She was 96! What a nasty way to behave towards an elderly woman who was near the end of her life.

How did he directly act in a nasty way to the late QE?
Because he gave interviews telling his side?
FGS if that's what you mean his father, and mother, set the precedent.

JHound · 05/01/2025 19:56

Baital · 05/01/2025 17:02

It reminds me of the question to Debbie McGee - 'what first attracted you to the multi millionaire Paul Daniels'? 🤔 😂

They didn't have to have the big public wedding, she didn't need to give up her career, they didn't - and don't - have to use their titles while resenting that others are ahead in the hierarchy.

Self inflicted.

Harry and Paul Daniel’s aren’t really in the same league.

Harry is an actually attractive man.

BruFord · 05/01/2025 19:56

NotaRealHousewife · 05/01/2025 19:32

If I was her I would just avoid reading social media and papers like the daily mail

I would be quite happy with my family, living in my $14 million mansion and making shows that I enjoyed

@NotaRealHousewife Audiences do need to like the shows that you make though if you want to get paid!

I don’t think Harry’s going to be asked to make another show on polo, for example. I hope Meghan’s is more successful.

Getuptherenow · 05/01/2025 19:56

I think she left privacy behind when she married into the most talked about family in the world. Harry lost my sympathy with that terrible book 'Spare' and anecdotes like rubbing cream into his unmentionable. She should keep acting because she wasn't too bad at it. Lifestyle shows like this are tone deaf. A lot of people are struggling to afford food and she's faffing about with a Victoria sponge in a mansion.

Horserider5678 · 05/01/2025 19:56

To be honest, even if was to be an absolutely amazing show, it would still be panned! I find it incredible that so many people can invest so much hatred into someone they neither know or are ever likely to meet.

It’s Hollywood though isn't it. That’s the shallow, vacuous world she wants to be in.

Thank you, Bunnylake. That is precisely the point I was making!! The media, Hollywood, the Buyers of Magazines are interested only in a person's looks and sellability. Do you really think that as a going-on-75-year-old crone I would be ageist and misogynist?? The truth is that royalty sells, looks sell, youth sells, but royalty, youth and looks sell to the max.

Like it or not, it's the truth.

I met Diana , Princess of Wales to speak to via a work event- and saw her locally, another time, and my word, in person she was absolutely stunning.

Beautiful sapphire eyes, and she seemed to exude light.

Diana was very beautiful- But would people be as interested in her now, had she lived?

I like to think so, Diana would have been Queen of course.

There's a world of difference between "public scrutiny" and some of the vicious shit on here.

I'm not seeing a lot of "vicious shit" - most of it is fair commentary.

I need to hear more, this is totally bonkers...

I'm part of what problem because I think Meghan Markle is of no benefit to the human race? I mean, I didn't even say it, but I agree.

But they apparently want to work?
Are you saying they shouldn't?
Or, should they just go get some type "regular job?"

They can still do stuff but don't make such a song and dance about it when they can neither sing nor dance. Even stuff like putting out Christmas greeting from The Office of, I mean just eff off with that nonsense.

Tittat50 · 05/01/2025 20:03

How can we ever really know the truth about anyone in the public eye. I believe strongly that there has been a media machine at work to ensure that MM looks incredibly bad, of questionable character etc etc and Kate for example is through the media machine, held up as a paragon of virtue.

MM would do best to keep out of the public spotlight. Maybe she is fake or has less ' decorum' but the way the media have bullied her and convinced the public is beyond my comprehension.
You don't have to warm to her to see that she has been bullied and harassed to absolutely despicable levels.

Look at what Prince Andrew has done, look at the latest scandal regarding William/Charles. But look at the comparative treatment? Absolute insanity.

Yes MM should just keep a low profile but acting and TV is her profession so you can see why she's flogging this. It's her speciality after all so she wants to pursue that and probably hopes at some point she can win people over in doing so. It probably won't happen. I understand why she and Harry went public, however, they're just too privileged to garner sympathy from the public.

I'd imagine his behaviour upset his grandparents greatly at a time when they were both ill and frail.
