With the exection of Sophis in blue and B's husband, I'm sorry but the Royals look ill and sad. It's a shame.

What absolute rubbish. There's several photos where they're smiling at each other. Even if there weren't big fucking deal. They're out at a family occasion, kids there & dealing with all the public.

Trouble in paradise - bore off

Very aggressive...

Looks to me like trouble in paradise for W&K.

On that Royal feed upthread her does not engage with her at all, only and deliberately with the children.

He also works the crowd with the children - that will have been planned.

He never catches her eye.

Something is definitely up there.

They are on duty. They are giving their attention to the people who turned up to see them and to guiding their children as they learn to interact with the crowd. If they spent the time clinging to, or gazing at each other, it would be extremely rude to those who have stood in the cold for a long time to shake their hands and have a brief chat.

ForGreyKoala · 26/12/2024 07:16

MerryMaker · 25/12/2024 22:49

Because they are anti disabled. They see being seen as disabled as a negative thing.

Oh what rubbish! My late DM wouldn't use a walking stick until she absolutely had to, that didn't make her anti disabled. Get over yourself!

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 26/12/2024 08:22

William and Catherine never really show affection in public when on duty, the fuss about Harry and Meghan holding hands when he was at the late queens funeral was because it stood out compared to his brother and wife. (Although Zara and Mike held hands at one point and that was seen as him being supportive of her.) William rarely does loving looks or physical contact with Catherine when they are on duty.

so not a new thing. They aren’t a very affectionate couple.

ssd · 25/12/2024 18:57

Catherine looks amazing considering what she's gone through.

Yeah I thought she looked tired but smiley.

BigAnne · 26/12/2024 08:44

@FancyBiscuitsLevel I doubt very much that they come in to contact with staff.

The late Queen used a stick. Princess Margaret and the Queen Mother used wheel chairs. If Charles isn't using a stick, it is because he doesn't need a stick. They were carrying an umbrella because it was drizzly in Norfolk yesterday and some rain was forecast.

Exactly. When did you ever see PP or the Queen clinging to each and gazing adoringly at one another? They’re at work for Gods sake.

This quote here suggests your motivation for your statement. Whenever someone refers the Royal Family as an ‘institution’, they’re anti Royals. The pictures and news visuals today show a happy family as far as I can see.

I've not given it a great deal of thought. They are first and foremost human beings. I'm not anti , I'm just not that interested.

And to whoever asked if I had nothing better to do....correct. But hopefully today will be a better day.

How so?

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 26/12/2024 09:44

BigAnne · 26/12/2024 08:44

@FancyBiscuitsLevel I doubt very much that they come in to contact with staff.

Why would you think that? They are essentially staying in a private hotel- someone makes their food, someone else carries it to them, for some meals, another group of people serve it to them at the table (all these people breathe on it). As it’s not the 1920s anymore, those staff won’t work insanely long shifts, so the people who prepare, carry and clean up from breakfast are unlikely to be the same people who serve dinner. The 23rd staff may be a different group to the 24th December staff etc.

There are cleaning staff in the building they will come into contact with over the few days they are staying. There’s hair and makeup staff for the majority of the women staying there. There’s security and drivers.

There’s a lot of people who keep the wheels on a royal family Christmas. So royals are exposed to far more bugs than “normal” people having a family get together.

Clearly you see something different from the op.

It does not make you correct though.

Nor the op mind.

Everyone sees from where they are standing.

But most posters on here don't see it. Sometimes people only see what they want to see..

AffAndOff · 26/12/2024 09:47

My parents are not royal nor anti disabled but dm 88 refuses to use a stick and df only started using one recently at 93. The reason? A very resilient generation, they hate making a fuss or acting meek and needy, even if they feel it, they don't wish to be pitied or draw attention. They are used to getting on with things even when unwell. They are not snowflakes and do not worry about labels such as anti disabled 😂. They probably have more humanity, grit and compassion in their little toe than OP.

A note to the professionally offended and hyperrealitymorality judges, my dp actually help the needy in their community and show true compassion and respect to people including those who are ill or disabled. They do this despite being frail themselves and have no need to act morally superior by accusing people of being anti disabled or anti anything because they have nothing to prove, they live a real life rater than one that is pretend on the internet. The OP on the other hand........................

HelenWheels · 26/12/2024 09:57

that was a lovely clip, loved louis and charlotte checking out the cameras and being very aware,
i wonder how Samuel Chatto's girlfriend feels about being included ?
even prince edward looked fine to me

@FancyBiscuitsLevel I doubt very much that they come in to contact with staff.

I know someone who previously worked in one of the palaces and they very much do come in to contact with staff. My friend said that Prince Philip was always having a joke with them and Andrew was widely regarded as an arsehole (even pre Epstein)

Havalona · 26/12/2024 10:17

There are Royal sycophants, royal watchers, those who are indifferent, those who cant see the point of them, and those who utterly dislike them.

I know which one I am and it aint a sycophant!

Well, quite.
And, despite not being that interested, OP spent some of her Christmas Day feeling "sad for them as people and as an institution" and was at enough of a loose end to start a thread about people she's not interested in.
I'm going to stop browsing this now as I'm starting to feel sad for the OP and that's no way to spend my Boxing Day.

Eta Just read your last post, @fedup33
I'm very sorry you're feeling like that and I realise my comment would have come across as very harsh in those circumstances.
I hope things pick up for you.
Just a suggestion, but, rather than creating a gloomy thread, would it be worth starting a conversation elsewhere on MN about something that doesn't make you sad?
Definitely leaving the thread now as a I feel both sad and a bit of a worm.

Because they are anti disabled. They see being seen as disabled as a negative thing.

In your imagination, perhaps. Nothing they have done suggests this to be the case however - William and Kate have been happy to be photographed taking part in disabled sports using wheelchairs and blindfolds. And QEII, Camilla and the Duchess of Kent have all been photographed using mobility aids (sticks and wheelchairs) when needed.

Gosh , they don't look well.
