With the exection of Sophis in blue and B's husband, I'm sorry but the Royals look ill and sad. It's a shame.

When you’re down, knocking other people does make you feel better.

And when somebody says they are down, being nasty to them help you?

How on earth was my comment nasty? It’s virtually what you said yourself.

because I'm lonely, fed up and lacking community. There you go! It will pass. Thanks.

Hope that you are okay, OP! Try and find something nice to do like go on a nice walk (weather permitting) or settle down with a box of choccies in front of your favourite movie. Or start a thread about something positive that brings you joy. Happy thoughts can generate a better mood 🥰

I’d hate to have to go through that palaver every Christmas morning. If I did, I’d look a bloody sight rougher than that lot.

look alright to me 🤷‍♀️

pilates · 26/12/2024 14:47

Op, they looked fine. Yeah fresh air does wonders.

Why would you look rougher than someone who has cancer? Are you a heavy drinker?

fedup33 · 26/12/2024 16:27

Thanks. It started off as a genuine thought and sadly snow balled. The picture posted by @Serenster is much nicer. Anyway I'll quit now before I dig another great big hole for myself.

In your imagination, perhaps. Nothing they have done suggests this to be the case however - William and Kate have been happy to be photographed taking part in disabled sports using wheelchairs and blindfolds. And QEII, Camilla and the Duchess of Kent have all been photographed using mobility aids (sticks and wheelchairs) when needed.

This is playing at using disability aids. Playing at wheelchair sports is very different from using a disability aid because you are disabled.

Well they aren’t disabled. So they can’t use a disability aid in anger as it where. Like many people 🤷‍♀️. Do you want them to chop off a leg for authenticity? PP were saying that the king wasn’t using a stick because he was somehow disdainful of disability. Others have argued that sometimes older people won’t use them because of pride or not wanting to make a fuss. I think the king doesn’t use a stick because he doesn’t need one. Nothing to do with being disdainful. I’m not even sure how this particular topic of conversation came about

@smilesy both charles and camilla are using long umbrellas as a walking aid in the walk to church. Queen Elizabeth did the same.

If I am carrying a long umbrella, I will often put it to the floor in the style of a walking stick as otherwise it gets in the way. Doesn’t mean I am leaning on it

eta from memory, this is something Charles has always done when carrying a long umbrella

But it would only track that they are deliberately trying to avoid a disability aid if they needed one all the time - if Charles had an umbrella that he leaned on for all his engagements then yes, maybe you would have a point that he was avoiding using a disability aid. But a short Google of his last month’s engagements shows that he doesn’t use anything.

A Google of his countryside walking shows that he’s used a variety of walking sticks in different conditions.

Yesterday was a little overcast and having an umbrella as a precaution plus a walking prop is no indication that they are implying there’s any shame in using disability aids.

The late Queen also regularly used a stick on her later engagements.

Now we never saw her in a wheelchair and it’s thought that she did use one in private.

But I don’t think you can make a reasonable judgement about the rest of the family just on that.

Manypaws · 26/12/2024 17:02

They were probably on the lash the night before

Serenster · 26/12/2024 17:03

Elizabeth also used a proper walking stick too though on numerous occasions - she had quite a few. And a crutch too on more than one occasion. Here’s three members of the Kent family earlier this year - two sticks and a wheelchair between them. I have no idea what your point is - when mobility aids are needed, they have been openly used.

Gosh , they don't look well.

What a load of old rubbish! I have those things in abundance. The term snowflake is so unpleasant.

You are the one whose posted an unpleasant thread, or as you say a load of old rubbish! <shrugs>

MerryMaker · 26/12/2024 17:43

I know the Kent's used disability aids. I have never seen those -photos of the Queen before. Any significant occasion she used an umbrella as a walking stick in her later years.

Yes, I meant more that Charles would swing an umbrella along the ground when he happened to be carrying one due to the threat of rain. A bit like when you see old film of men in bowler hats swinging their umbrellas whilst crossing London Bridge 😆

Serenster · 26/12/2024 17:57

That’s easily disproved with photos, though. Elizabeth first started using a walking stick in public in October 2021, and that was a proper stick, not an umbrella (see picture). She used one fairly frequently after that date.

You may be thinking of the fact that she was frequently pictured at garden parties with an umbrella? That was presumably practical rather than needed for mobility. Here she is at a garden party in 2019, for example (they were cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to Covid). But she didn’t generally use a stick, or carry an umbrella at any other important events at that time.

Gosh , they don't look well.

OP, you can ask for the thread to be deleted. Contact MN. Say that you were feeling lonely and now reflect that being so unpleasant about the appearance of people who have recently had treatment for cancer and a serious chest infection was a mistake.
Not in the spirit, and certainly not very nice on Christmas Day.
I hope you feel more positive soon.

Serenster · 26/12/2024 18:28

Yes, I know. Hence why I said “Elizabeth first started using a walking stick in public in October 2021” and attached a photo 😀

Some of the comments on this thread remind me that I did think it might be appropriate for MN to incorporate an 'I think you're acting like a dickhead' emoji under 'React'.

Merry Christmas everyone.

The press noted that Camilla and Charles used an umbrella as a walking aid. The article says Camilla did use a walking stick over 10 years ago after an operation, but not since.

How long did it take you to drag up that report from 2022 from a pretty obscure source? There isn’t even a picture of them using their umbrellas as “walking aids” in the article 🤷‍♀️
