Charles cancer update

Charles’ cancer treatment will continue into next year

”his treatment has been moving in a positive direction and as a managed condition the treatment cycle will continue into next year" according to palace sources.

I don’t mean to be a negative Nelly but this doesn’t seem as positive as they’re trying to make out.

@PrettyFlyforaMaiTai This isn't a new announcement.

It's a link to Sky where they are repeating what was said ages ago, more or less.
They say it's a 'palace source' - which is hardly better than rumour.

I don't know why you posted this.

I posted here without reading your link.
I assumed it was headline news even though there is nothing today on the BBC or in the papers.

I hope not given that's the only one they've specifically said he doesn't have. Hmm

There's loads that could've been picked up during the treatment of his prostate issues. A relative had bladder cancer diagnosed during prostate cancer follow up. Bloods could lead them to lymphoma or leukemia etc.

Oh I didn't realise they had specifically said he doesn't have that one... X

Sorry you have been through this. I think you are right. In a totally non bitchy way, I think Catherine looks terrible. Sorry but I do.

I agree, she looks awful, very haggard.

TheFormidableMrsC · 20/12/2024 08:49

It was confirmed early on that he did not have prostate cancer. He had an enlarged prostate and treatment for that revealed whatever it is he currently has. I always thought it was probably more serious than they have let on. He most definitely does not have pancreatic cancer as it is very unlikely he'd be here or indeed look as well as he currently does. I have a friend who has, thus far, survived operable early stage pancreatic cancer but he is an absolute shadow of his former self physically.

When my mother had stage 4 cancer, they described her treatment as "management" as she was not curable. She had palliative chemotherapy which does not have the same ravaging effects as some, but not all, curative treatments.

Sadly, I fear the King is a stage 4 patient but I hope that his condition can be managed for some time to come.

Are you always so astonishingly rude? We were told it was pancreatic yes.

Who’s we? And by whom? Pancreatic cancer is the last type of cancer I’d have suspected.

JennyTals · 20/12/2024 08:50

They should just be open and honest

as these types of statements just cause people to speculate and talknbabiut it more and more

What a bunch of fucking ghouls. Poring over and dissecting a cancer diagnosis.

I must work harder to figure out how to hide this entire topic and the weirdos who frequent it

You chose to click on the thread, read it, and reply.

Oh god why or why in the age of social media, do the royal family still do this?

doesn’t want attention or speculation so isnt saying what cancer he’s got. But this is the 2nd thread I’ve seen playing “guess the cancer” and there’s been increasingly wild suggestions on X and Bluesky.

if he just said, it would get a couple of articles in old fashioned media but a lot less speculation and discussion beyond “what a shame.”

you’d think they’d learn from the terrible handling of Katherine’s illness last year that obviously playing down conditions and obviously withholding health information, the public will join the dots, and often get it worse than the reality.

Someone really needs to sit the members of the Royal family who are in the direct line of succession and say this lack of privacy is the downside of an inherited role. Overall you benefit from this system, but against that, your death will have repercussions for the whole country and government, and as such your health (and closeness to death/ability to carry out your duties) of interest to the public.

I don't believe revealing what type of cancer Charles and Kate have would reduce speculation. The speculation would just become more focused and move from what type of cancer they've got to how advanced it is/what treatment they are having/what the prognosis is/likelihood of occurrence. And above all, if/when they might die from it.

People may be frustrated or even annoyed at not being given specifics, but surely Charles and Kate have a right to some degree of privacy over their own health?

Commenting on it is probably a good start

TheFormidableMrsC · 20/12/2024 08:54

There have also been some horrible comments about Kate's appearance. I don't think people who haven't had cancer realise the toll that treatment takes on you (I have had breast cancer). My appearance definitely changed and while I have recovered well, it definitely made a difference to my skin etc and I feel that I possibly looked older for a while. I personally feel that she looks amazing given what she's been through. It's really unkind to comment on her appearance while her body is recovering from really harsh treatment.

Hear hear!

FuzzyPuffling · 20/12/2024 08:57

My DH had/ has a blood cancer which required incredibly invasive and risky treatment ( stem cell transplant). He was given a 50% chance of surviving the treatment. You'd certainly know if someone had this!

Prostate cancer can be utterly horrific so no it's not a "good" cancer to get, especially if it's been found late. Completely depends on how aggressive it is, but it is not a pleasant thing to die of since it spreads to the bones, presses on the spinal chord, potentially causes paralysis and absolute agony-you get the picture. I'm sorry for the rant but I'm so sick of the downplaying of one of the biggest killers of men in this country. As for King Charles, they specifically stated it wasn't prostate cancer.

Very well said!
The absolute downplaying of prostate cancer as almost something and nothing drives me mad.
Having watched my fit and healthy DH die a horrific death from the disease in his 50’s, 3 years after diagnosis I can confirm it is not a good cancer.

This thread is bonkers!!

The type of cancer King Charles has and whether Queen Elizabeth had a cancer and what type have never been officially reported. But predictably, some posters believe they 'know'!!

QEll's cancer type was reported in the news shortly after her death.

Any cancer can be horrific sadly. The vast majority of prostate cancer cases aren't fatal, many aren't even treated at first. The proportion of people with a prostate cancer diagnosis who ultimately die from it is much lower than many (most?) cancers. If I had to roll the dice for one of my relatives and pick a cancer, prostate would be up there when you consider the horrors of something like oesophageal or pancreatic. That's all people mean. Flowers

Any advanced cancer will be a painful, horrific experience unfortunately. That's a whole other ballgame.

Completely agree with this. They're screwed re speculation whatever they do, may as well keep it as vague as possible.

I was thinking bladder cancer but I’m not a medic.

This is the one no one has mentioned but...it was found when doing prostate surgery which involves an instrument that looks in the bladder so I think something could have been found here. Also bladder cancer can be treated with regular instillations of chemotherapy directly into the bladder if it is localised.

Pancreatic would be at the bottom of my list as it's survival rate is abysmal.

Myeloma was mentioned for the late queen's cancer.

JuliaSmith · 20/12/2024 09:04

Once someone has cancer, there is never an announcement of being 'cured'.
Even after 5 years the term is ' in remission' and NED (no evidence of disease.)

ISeriouslyDoubtIt · 20/12/2024 08:37

Where do people get this rubbish from? It wasn't announced on the news, which makes out that it was officially declared, it was gossip and speculation, the only cause of death that was officially released was old age.

It was reported a few days after her death. She had been diagnosed with multiple myeloma two years before her death.

It may not have been the direct cause of her death but the cancer type was reported.

No it wasn’t! There was a photo of her official death certificate, listing only “old age”!

It was our understanding he has advanced pancreatic cancer.

On what basis?

No it wasn't! I'd be very interested to see which news article showed that( and I mean reputable such as BBC) , not idle gossip in Hello magazine for example.

BarbaraHoward · 20/12/2024 09:06

The comments about Kate's appearance are awful. Remember her cancer was found incidentally during some pretty major surgery - she could have been ill for years and then cancer treatment on top. She looks remarkably well to me (not that her appearance matters anyway).

BarbaraHoward · 20/12/2024 09:07

AmazingGraze · 20/12/2024 09:05

On what basis?

Someone ill informed confidently said it's prostate cancer, and pancreatic also begins with P, I'm guessing. Hmm

dynamiccactus · 20/12/2024 09:10

I am sure it's already been said but there are some forms of cancer which can't be "cured" but are managed like a chronic illness - sometimes for years, sometimes for decades. "Managed" often doesn't mean a prognosis of months. I think some forms of leukaemia might be like that?
