Charles cancer update

PrettyFlyforaMaiTai · 20/12/2024 06:34

Charles’ cancer treatment will continue into next year

”his treatment has been moving in a positive direction and as a managed condition the treatment cycle will continue into next year" according to palace sources.

I don’t mean to be a negative Nelly but this doesn’t seem as positive as they’re trying to make out.

Still waiting for @Petrasings to confirm who told them about pancreatic cancer

knitnerd90 · 20/12/2024 08:12

Steve Jobs had a rare, slower moving type of pancreatic cancer. His outcome is not typical. Ruth Bader Ginsburg also remarkably survived over a decade, but I believe they discovered it accidentally when she was treated. Part of the issue with pancreatic cancer is that it's usually only diagnosed after metastasis.

Porcuporpoise · 20/12/2024 08:15

I think it would be quite difficult to stumble on early stage pancreatic cancer whilst removing a benign prostate tumour.

Crinkle77 · 20/12/2024 08:19

ekk100 · 20/12/2024 07:03

Prostate cancers can be extremely slow growing, if it's managed well people generally die 'with' prostate cancer, not 'of' it. I'm assuming it's something like that. Maybe a bit of ongoing radio/chemo therapy and regular checks.

Yep. My mums friends husband has been living with prostate cancer for about 20 years.

Well, if you ignore the blood and urine tests, and the general physical examination that would be going on as part of the prostate diagnosis and treatment..

theDudesmummy · 20/12/2024 08:24

There were discussions around about the queen having multiple myeloma, although I have no idea if that was true. If so, it's a familial disease (several people have had it or have the markers for in my family). So the king having it would make sense if so.

‘Managed ‘ in cancer terms means a terminal diagnosis.

We have been through this three times with our family members, and it was used by all three consultants as a term.

Sorry you have been through this. I think you are right. In a totally non bitchy way, I think Catherine looks terrible. Sorry but I do.

No, wasnt ignoring those but do elaborate.

Firefly1987 · 20/12/2024 08:30

Prostate cancer can be utterly horrific so no it's not a "good" cancer to get, especially if it's been found late. Completely depends on how aggressive it is, but it is not a pleasant thing to die of since it spreads to the bones, presses on the spinal chord, potentially causes paralysis and absolute agony-you get the picture. I'm sorry for the rant but I'm so sick of the downplaying of one of the biggest killers of men in this country. As for King Charles, they specifically stated it wasn't prostate cancer.

Miley1967 · 20/12/2024 08:30

OneBadKitty · 20/12/2024 07:19

The Queen had NH Lymphoma? Since when? Never heard this.

I thought I read somewhere she had myeloma? Obviously may not be correct.

JuliaSmith · 20/12/2024 08:30

Initially, C wanted to reveal his prostate issues to make them 'less shameful' (for men) but it would be IMO more helpful to show there is 'hope' with a cancer diagnosis.

Because it was discovered during his prostate op, some 'experts' on line have suggested it's bowel or bladder and showed up on scans etc. I am sure he's been screened regularly for anything he may inherit or is possibly genetic.

I don't understand the secrecy around it and I don't think it's good as it just increases speculation.

Ongoing treatment suggests it's either needed, or it's preventative to stop it spreading.

This thread is bonkers!!

The type of cancer King Charles has and whether Queen Elizabeth had a cancer and what type have never been officially reported. But predictably, some posters believe they 'know'!!

Quite - "we had understood" - had you bollocks, you just read some speculation online like the rest of us.

Rumour has it that it was bone cancer (hence her increasing stooped appearance and pain with walking/ sitting.)

JuliaSmith · 20/12/2024 08:33

Petrasings · 20/12/2024 07:27

It was our understanding he has advanced pancreatic cancer.

This has been ruled out- very early on they said it wasn't.

Neurodiversitydoctor · 20/12/2024 08:34

User14March · 20/12/2024 07:17

@Neurodiversitydoctor how do we know she had this type of cancer?

We don't I said it was a guess.

WhatsItWorthToYou · 20/12/2024 08:35

What a bunch of fucking ghouls. Poring over and dissecting a cancer diagnosis.

I must work harder to figure out how to hide this entire topic and the weirdos who frequent it

Yes Myeloma is/ can be incredibly painful.

doublec · 20/12/2024 08:36

Urgh, these threads are so ghoulish and open to so much nonsense, case in point the poster who thinks KC has pancreatic cancer. Pancreatic cancer consumes the person from the inside out to the point they are positively skeletal. I sincerely doubt it's that at all.

If KC wanted us to know, they'd tell us. Speculating really isn't helping anyone, more so as cancer is so personalised anyway, so even if we knew for certain his kind of cancer, it's stage, grade etc, that still wouldn't give us the whole picture.
Case in point I have cancer, as does a friend I made during/on the chemo ward. On paper we both have the same type and grade of cancer, we're both being treated at the same hospital and have some of the same treatments but different drugs, different cycles and durations. I'm still having ongoing treatment and close management, she's not. And I am certain this is the reason why he's not being transparent about his cancer, treatment or prognosis, because it's about him not anyone else's cancer. Quite simply it's his cancer, his treatment, and his life. If he wanted us to know, there would have been a press release. Let the man have at least a modicum of privacy. (And I can quite understand why ER did not allow the press to report she was ill in the first instance).

ISeriouslyDoubtIt · 20/12/2024 08:37

EmotionalSupportCuttlefish · 20/12/2024 07:50

Because it was announced on the news after her death and she had the same sort that ended my Mums's life. It was no longer a secret once she died.

Where do people get this rubbish from? It wasn't announced on the news, which makes out that it was officially declared, it was gossip and speculation, the only cause of death that was officially released was old age.

Are you always so astonishingly rude? We were told it was pancreatic yes.

The poster wasn't being astonishingly rude, just truthful. People with pancreatic cancer do not look like the King, especially those with advance pc.

Sorry you have been through this. I think you are right. In a totally non bitchy way, I think Catherine looks terrible. Sorry but I do.

As charming as you are ignorant.

Why don't you have six months and however many cycles of chemotherapy PoW had and post pictures of yourself afterwards so we can comment on your appearance?

I had six months and 8 cycles of some of the harshest chemotherapy include doxorubicin, and even though my last cycle was back in April, the effects are still hitting me now, and I look far worse now than I did during chemo.

SingaporeSlinky · 20/12/2024 08:43

It’s amazing how many people claim to have information or ‘vaguely remember’ certain things without a basic check before posting. It took me a few seconds to find these:
From the BBC website about Charles:
A statement said: "No further details are being shared at this stage, except to confirm that His Majesty does not have prostate cancer."

From the BBC website after the Queen died…
Her cause of death is recorded as "old age", without any further details. "Old age" is only usually given as the sole cause of death in very limited circumstances.
This would be where the certifying doctor has personally cared for someone over a long period; where a gradual decline has been observed and where a doctor is not aware of any identifiable disease or injury contributing to a death.

Mirabai · 20/12/2024 08:45

Freysimo · 20/12/2024 07:58

I would suspect bladder cancer as it was discovered during the King's treatment for enlarged prostate. It was confirmed that it WASN'T prostate cancer.

Me too. Bladder would be the mist obvious one to find in that circ.
