Does anyone feel like we’re not being told the whole truth here? Camilla has been ill for weeks now.

But it's not like they've reached their seventies after a lifetime of hard graft...they've had a pretty easy life so far. They haven't been slogging their guts out for decades in a 9-5 with only a few weeks off per year... commuting on public transport as well as having to do all their own housework, cooking, house maintenance etc.

Not to mention, even when Camilla was younger (10-20 years ago) her annual number of engagements was always on the lower end relative to other senior royals. That said, I hope she's on the mend.

I think it's weird they only all started getting ill after the queen died. Never heard anything about their health before that except Kate's pregnancy sickness.

Given the queen died of cancer and didn't want it to get out, I can only assume that now they've all decided they're able to be a lot more open about their health now she isn't there to prevent it being said.

Edited

I think they’ve been under enormous stress for the past five years due to H and M and their spiteful ness , the court cases Harry has been part of and the health of the Queen and PP , plus COVID. There has also been the scandal around Andrew and all the publicity around that. The chickens have come home to roost. Anne has been kicked by a horse and Edward looks dreadful . Only William seems to be in good health, but i suspect he’s been struggling too.

It depends how you view an easy life, I'd rather slog on every day tasks and have the freedom to go out for a drink with my friends than being papped by the press and judged by millions of people. Have every word scrutinised and repeated. Being told what to wear, where I'm allowed to go, what I'm allowed to voice an opinion on. Forced to lots of boring events and pretending to be interested in people. Horrible.

To be fair most jobs are quite boring and in many jobs you have to be nice to people and pretend to be interested.

Comedycook · 04/12/2024 09:35

And ok, you and I have the freedom to pop down to the pub for a drink with friends. They however have freedom to do things we can't ....huge homes and acres of land. They can entertain many numbers of friends in their homes if they want to socialise...complete with staff and chefs to make amazing dinners. They have freedom to walk, ride and exercise in peace on their huge estates...I will take a guess that they may have a swimming pool they can use. They have freedom to eat the highest quality food prepared by someone else whenever they want. They have freedom to see a doctor without having to wait for an appointment. They have freedom to take up hobbies and learn new skills without worrying about affordability. They know their children will never struggle to get on the housing ladder. They don't have to worry about university costs. Their lives aren't perfect but I don't believe for a second that they don't love the luxury and the relatively easy life they have. It's a brilliant marketing ploy to make us believe their lives are terrible and we are so lucky not to be them.

I think that is a shrewd observation. I know people talk about their life of luxury but they are humans with real feelings .

She could persuade KC to retire/abdicate couldn't she? In the interests of both their health and well being given their current health status and age.

He wouldn't be abdicating for having married a divorcee like his predecessor though. But in fact he did exactly that!

I highly doubt he would want to abdicate as he knows it would mean a huge amount of pressure being put on William and co...when they still have quite young DC.

I was being a little tongue in cheek really. But I do hope they don't just "endure" it for form's sake if their health fails.

I do appreciate that Regents or whatever the term is can take over, but as with the late Queen, she did less and less, and was replaced more and more and it seemed she was titular only in the end. Stubborn also maybe!

The queen apparently genuinely believed she was chosen by god for that role which might also explain that.

I wonder if Charles thinks that too?

I doubt he has religious fervour or believes much, but he sure didn't mind getting crowned in the Abbey, a house of God and taking all the holy vows as Head of CofE. But what do I know...

Going through the motions is the way I'd put it, but his late mother appears to have fully embraced the "Divine right of Kings Queens!"

isitsnowingyett · 04/12/2024 11:38

It seems Camilla has had pneumonia.

Havalona · 04/12/2024 12:04

I know press pics can be deceptive, but she looked very good at the Qatari State Banquet.

She definitely didn't want to sit through the Royal Variety Show unwell or not!

Needanewname42 · 04/12/2024 14:40

I certainly don't think Charles would want to put the burden on William and Kates shoulders while they have kids in primary school.

I have thought they have hoped that it would be a more gradual handover from Charles to William similar to how it went from HMQ to Charles.

William must have been under horrific pressure this year. I bet he'll be glad to see 2025 and good riddance to 2024.

Notmoog · 03/12/2024 12:02

ooh, shall we guess who's shelling out for the funeral when she dies?
As her husband was too much of a tight bastard to pay for his own mother's, he'll no doubt get us to pay for his wife's too.

Oh wow! You sound like a sunny delight...

So you don't think the world's longest-serving head of state (70 years) should get a special send-off? As President Macron memorably said "She wasn't just your Queen, she was THE Queen."

She meant a lot to a lot of people worldwide, and even those who don't support the monarchy mostly had the grace and magnanimity to acknowledge that.

I think you're letting personal spite cloud your vision...

no, I don't think a penny of my money should have gone towards her funeral.
She wasn't a relative of mine nor a friend.
I have no interest in how long she held that position.

isitsnowingyett · 04/12/2024 18:54

Camilla deserves a bit of slack if she has been poorly. She held the fort together in the first months of this year.

Needanewname42 · 04/12/2024 20:09

Agreed, she probably didn't want to cough all the way through the Royal Variety Show, either.

Was it on TV this year?

EdithWeston · 04/12/2024 22:24

Illjusthavethebreadsticks · 03/12/2024 22:06

I know it's morbid but would she have a state funeral as wife of the king. ?

No

State funeral is monarch only, and the last commoner to receive one was Winston Churchill

She would, like the late Queen Mother (and Queen Mary, and Diana Princess of Wales) have a royal ceremonial funeral. Prince Phillip had as many of the traditions of that kind of funeral as restrictions allowed

No she didn’t embrace any such thing.

She always stuck to her proper constitutional role.

Her personal faith is unconnected with Divine Right, which has a specific meaning and which was disavowed in 1688

MrsFinkelstein · 06/12/2024 09:30

@EdithWeston correct.

There's a fundamental lack of knowledge about the role of a Constitutional Monarchy displayed in this thread.

I agree. She was one of the richest women in the world. I do not approve of the concept of royalty and their ever increasing numbers to be supported. At least Harry is off the gravy train now. Or so we are led to believe.

AyrshireTryer · 06/12/2024 10:31

I never thought her act was that good.
Can Michael McIntyre not step in?
