Prince Harry, Amar Doman, owner of the BC Lions, and Wenshuang Nie, a competitor in the Invictus Games.

I believe he sat for an interview too.

Lots of photos available . Camilla wore a beautiful velvet dress with stunning jewellery.

And presumably the people at the State Dinner engaged. And the people who organised the State Dinner and the invitations to it would also have been engaging with eah other for a long time before it happens, in the expectation that they would be engaging for a long time after it happened. Important, powerful people for whom a State Dinner cements common purpose.

But Harry a d Jelly Roll, hey! They're the real thng.

I’m not engaging WITH hapless Harry, in engaging with the person who thinks everyone engages with him which they don’t

Hair split all you like but the original point stands - love him or hate him people engage.

The Clooneys
Travolta
Kevin Costner
The Beckhams
Katie Perry
Gwyneth Paltrow
The Trudeaus
Michelle and Barak

All once engaged, now not engaging.

Anyone want to add to the list?

BemusedAmerican · 20/11/2024 18:33

@andIsaid When William was last in NYC, he had a huge unscheduled turnout after his fire house visit, and glowing press for this entire trip. Wading in the river to reestablish oysters is not exactly glamorous but he did it without an army of bodyguards.

I am really annoyed about the Harry tattoo hype because when he visited that parlor in his bulletproof SUV with his private security, he was escorted by 2 NYPD cars.
Three people were just stabbed to death in the street in NYC. People are being assaulted in the subway. The NYPD should be protecting the real people at risk, average New Yorkers.

Honestly, Harry is getting old and out of touch if he thinks that people are impressed that a 40-year-old rich guy is getting a tattoo. If he really wants to impress people, he should address the African Parks situation.

Everyone remembers the circus clown. The ringmaster, not so much.

Plus, the RF is about solid, stolid, steady state-business plod with a dash of glamour from the ladies.

We expect them to do boring things to a timetable.

But Harry and Meghan? What larks!

None of what you’ve said makes any sense

yesmen · 20/11/2024 18:42

Nice try folks.

When I see you all starting threads singing the praises of the royals in residence I will believe your protests.

In the meantime, I will watch with amusement as you cannot resist coming out for all the PH threads.

It does. But it doesn't connect well with reality. I think it translates as:

The poster has the (erroneous) idea that posters are in camps, who ought post in certain stereotyped ways that will confirm her bias.

That we don't conform to her stereotype is taken as a defect, rather than a realisation that the underpinning theory isn't correct.

Why would we start a thread singing the praises of the RF for just doing their job?

Thank you for that insight. It clarifies what I qas getting at in my previous post. The RF are public servants, not celebrities.

Very true! I could not find my glasses and I have clumsy. fat fingers.

I have to go now though as I am late (again) for a meeting.

Thistooshallpsss · 20/11/2024 19:02

Can someone enlighten me about Invictus please? It is an international charity for injured service people but what happens when there are injured service people from both sides of a conflict? Can they all join in or does Invictus or the government where the games are happening decide which people are included?

It's a British charity that runs sporting events/activities/tours (that usually get overlooked) plus the Games themselves; and which sets up national branches in countries that join.

Joining is by invitation to a national delegation (not to individuals), which reduces the chances of a Strange Meeting; and if it had stuck to NATO/Commonwealth countries that would have reduced it further.

Itoldyousoo · 20/11/2024 19:35

Harry certainly does look happier engaged in this as opposed to when he has Meghan by his side.

Serenster · 20/11/2024 23:49

There was a State Dinner last night. Not a word. Not a tiara in sight. No celebrations of a great British tradition. Not a word on how important our Royals are, what a benefit to society they are, what a great British display it was. A big fat hole of nothing.

Firstly, it wasn’t a State Dinner. Iit was the annual diplomatic reception where the most senior royals host all the ambassadors and high commissioners who are based in the UK and have presented their credentials to the Sovereign. It is therefore an expression of the importance of the Sovereign’s role as Head of State and the soft power that they hold. So, a benefit to UK plc. As you may be aware, being appointed as a diplomatic representative to the UK is regarded internationally as a prestigious post, generally reserved for the most senior diplomats, or as a top reward for public service. The access to the UK Royal family is a big part of this prestige, so the very opposite of a big fat hole of nothing.

Secondly, there have been discussions of the event elsewhere on Mumsnet, but not on this board. I can’t imagine anyone who genuinely wanted to discuss the event would post on this board. If you’re looking to provoke a combative discussion, absolutely. But any other reason - no. Why on earth would you?

Given this, I often wonder at the motives of people who start start threads when Harry and Meghan turn up at the opening of an envelope their latest attempt to demonstrate they have relevance.

I noticed the same for William and Charles too, interesting.

William and Charles are happier without Meghan by their side? What an odd comment but I imagine they are happier without her laughing inappropriately and talking over occasions where respect is needed.

LaMarschallin · 21/11/2024 08:39

Quite.
Can't imagine Camilla or Kate miss her much either.
As you say, Itoldyousoo, a very odd comment.

I meant William without Kate and Charles without Camilla. It’s pronounced since William has been out by himself recently, same as Charles

The royal family generally keep their heads down and get on with what's expected of them. A bit like when politicians do their job, nobody really comments much, but if one of them is caught with his trousers down and an orange in his mouth, people are going to take the piss. So here we are, taking the piss out of a middle aged prince who thinks it's cool to get a tattoo and talk about his drug taking. What next? A skateboard and a back to front cap? The daft twat.

You clearly missed the article about the Aquamarine tiara that the Queen was wearing.

Definitely a white tie event, the King was in knee-britches and full honours were worn. Full on bling everywhere!
