William says past year “probably hardest in my life”

William has opened up about how difficult the past year has been with the cancer diagnosis of both his wife and father.

It’s nice to see some light being shed on the perspective of the loved ones of cancer sufferers. I hope that this might inspire a new patronage to help those in a similar position, especially knowing how privileged his family are in terms of comfort, wealth and access to top medical specialist.

You could well be right, MrsLF ... I've probably missed it through not being on the RF board much recently, there not being a whole lot new to say

Typo

I agree there is much to chat about. I wasn't just thinking about this board though. My impression is that for some reason there is a lot of activity on social media in general.

I really don’t know why Narinder Kaur thought it would be ok to post what she did. It wasn’t the most dreadful of comments (and it’s certainly something I’ve heard friends and colleagues say about Kate), but bloody hell, she must have known she’d get strung up for posting it on SM.

Unless she’s trying to gain Hopkins-esque notoriety 🤔

And why has it taken Sky such a long time to correct the ‘pre-cancerous’ thing? Twitter loons had an absolute field-day with that one.

I am probably wrong but my impression is that for some reason the Squad have been more active in the last few days.

Well, Catherine has been out and about.

William was doing Earthshot, and had the homeless documentary, Camilla had the DV documentary, but mainly it's because Catherine has been seen out in public.

It's like a Pavlovian reflex for them.

It's really sad.

Harry sent sweets to the Scottys Little Soldiers children matching on Remembrance Sunday. They were interviewed in the BBC coverage and he is obviously a much appreciated, really supportive Patron. Why not talk about that online?

I'm sure people have been doing. Just as I'm sure they have been talking about Strictly having a Chelsea Pensioner at the end of the professionals' dance on Sunday. Or London black cabbies giving free rides between central London and all the major railway stations to veterans.

Remembrance does indeed matter to many sectors in society.

I have seen some comments about Harry sending packets of sweets, but I have seen them described as 'measly'. I have also read that Scottys is struggling for funding and unable to put on their usual Winter Festival this year, which is really sad. .

"Ms Scott said funding had been a “real challenge” this year and the charity had been unable to put on a winter festival for the children it supports in 2024".

I saw a packet on the TV and I think "measly" is an unfair description. But I agree that it's sad that they are struggling for funds as it seems a really good cause.

I wonder if Archewell are sending them money? I think that would be appreciated more than sweets. It seems like a similar move to giving a backpack with snacks to a homeless man for publicity .

Thedom · 13/11/2024 08:23

I saw this photo and obviiously the kid has eaten something from it, but it looks like something that would cost less than a quid, possibly? how many kids would have walked 100? 500?.

Harry is famously tight, and we know Archewell are not very generous either, but helping to fund their Winter festival would have been a nice gesture, knowing they can't stretch to it this year, for sure it would have been more expensive than sending sweets, but it would have benefited a wider group of kids and families too..

What a bag of crap!

justonedrink · 13/11/2024 11:26

Yeah, kind of like turning up to a food bank empty handed... Blush

They learnt their lesson after the 2023 visit. Masses now appeased, phew!

Twitter trolls assuming no donations were made non publicly are not a source I would recommend. But you do you.

Several reports after that confirmed the BRF often made private donations. The Windsor food bank being one.

I don’t think the “masses” needed appeasing. That source is so biased it’s practically fallen over. Did anyone form the actual food bank or who wasn’t a fan of the Sussexes comment on the lack of contributions? And just because they weren’t actually carrying anything with them, that means they didn’t contribute does it?

Thedom · 13/11/2024 13:37

Megan got so much ridicule for getting her bodyguard to performatively hand out a backpack while a journalist was tagging along and writing a piece about her. I think it was wise and dignified not to arrive to a food bank with a trailer load of food behind them..

It's a symptom of our current "influencer society". You have to be photographed in various poses and post it all over your various SM accounts (fotos, reels, videos) and repetitively publicise it.

It's the complete antithesis of how the BRF operate.

And tbh, it's not a very British/Gen X way of doing it. Look at George Micheal - he donated and gifted regularly and generously and we only found out once he was dead. Diana did similarly.

Yes, good example @MrsFinkelstein GM did some very kind and thoughtful things without expecting thanks or praise, in fact insisting on anonymity. The very opposite of performative giving, which seems to be the norm and expectation these days.

I thought that we are to do good by stealth.
