William says past year “probably hardest in my life”

William has opened up about how difficult the past year has been with the cancer diagnosis of both his wife and father.

It’s nice to see some light being shed on the perspective of the loved ones of cancer sufferers. I hope that this might inspire a new patronage to help those in a similar position, especially knowing how privileged his family are in terms of comfort, wealth and access to top medical specialist.

I'm sure it's a coincidence that this has come out after the recent expose. Anyone would think it was a PR ploy to garner support.

Don't think they are following the methods of the Sussexes then?

justonedrink · 08/11/2024 17:11

Yes, timing is suspicious. And William has form for throwing Kate under the bus when convenient (the photoshop debacle). This time using her health to distract is quite low. I'm not sure I would like my DH publicly discussing how my cancer has been difficult for him.

You have no idea if Catherine has given her blessing to this or not. It is natural for people to ask William about the Princess of Wales and I'm pretty sure they would have agreed what is acceptable to say without being too personal.

Itoldyousoo · 09/11/2024 13:09

@BananaNirvana do you have the powers to see into the future? If so then there are many who would love to hire you.

They all use PR not one of them are any better in that regard. Distraction techniques the government are also masters in it. Bury the important information in a big pile of shite that no one wants to poke through.

I was really surprised at the Sky report talking about the Princess being treated for pre-cancerous cells. I had thought it was cancer, which is quite different.

There were many posts on here and elsewhere about the POW cancer in the early part of the year and in hindsight it was seen by most people as distasteful to put it mildly. Yet here you are trying to stir up interest in these mawkish theories again. It's an unpleasant way to behave. Are you questioning the people on these threads who state that they have cancer too? If so why not?

I thought it was pre-cancerous cells also which is entirely different from having cancer.

Her video said that following her original operation it was found that “cancer had been present”. Not pre-cancerous cells. Cancer. Hence the chemotherapy

Serious illness is a leveller but unless you are going through this you have no idea of the added strains of having to get on with making the kids' tea, the massive expenses of hospital appointments ( parking or taxis), fighting the medical professionals to get the right care and a million other things he just won't have to think about. All of that is utterly soul destroying and the privilege and convenience which money and influence confers makes a huge difference.

Well said 👌

Thank you, I hadn’t realised (not that it’s any of my business anyway).

PrettyFlyforaMaiTai · 09/11/2024 13:58

This is just from memory so I may be completely wrong and am happy to be corrected. But wasn’t it that she surgery, when they examined whatever it was that was removed it showed the tissue to be cancerous. So they advised to have chemotherapy to make sure the cancerous cells hadn’t spread?

My dad had pre cancerous cells/symptoms. He didn’t have chemo until he actually had cancer. Couldn’t have the cells removed, it was a wait and see situation to see if developed into cancer. Chemo would have buggered up his immune system before having cancer

Vespanest · 09/11/2024 14:23

Cancer is vast, often medical terminology is dumbed down to offer better understanding or repeatedly wrongly by misunderstanding. Certain cancers are treated more aggressively than others with pancreas cancer being an example. Speculating on Catherine cancer is vile.

Itoldyousoo · 09/11/2024 14:56

Let's not indulge all these people who want to diagnose from the brief information that was said and dispute the official version. Their usual mode of operation is to say " well it wasn't really cancer" as an attempt to discredit the Princess of Wales and the Royal Family. It is mean spirited and shows the character of some people.

If you’re including me in that post I’ve been too busy dealing with my own terminal cancer diagnosis to keep up with the news - that was the last I heard about it and I felt heart sorry for her that she was having to have any treatment at all! If it hadn’t been for the original post it would even have been a thought that went through my head.

Some breathtaking nastiness on this thread.

MrsFinkelstein · 09/11/2024 15:28

Humphhhh · 09/11/2024 08:22

Absolutely agree. Wonder how many NHS patients will receive preventative chemotherapy for pre cancerous cells?

All of them that need it ffs.

Some of the comments on this thread make me despair.
Chemotherapy is not given if it's not required.

Jesus wept.

Edit: she didn't have pre-cancerous cells (I have no idea why the journalist would make that error). She had surgery, cancerous cells were found and chemo given to ensure all possible lingering cancer cells were treated.

Again. Jesus wept.

JSMill · 09/11/2024 16:15

I can't believe some of the nastiness on this thread. Wtf is wrong with some people.
Catherine herself said the doctors had found that 'cancer was present' following her operation. Imagine disbelieving someone going through cancer.

Humphhhh · 09/11/2024 17:53

BarbaraHoward · 09/11/2024 08:29

No one would have chemo for pre cancerous cells. It would do more harm than good. She had cancer, most likely all removed in surgery but was recommended to have a course of chemo just in case.

No idea why Sky would say pre cancerous cells, that's bad journalism.

Are you an oncologist?

letthemalldoone · 09/11/2024 18:05

Humphhhh · 09/11/2024 17:53

How rude. The poster doesn't need to be an oncologist. The simple skills of reading and comprehension serves her well.

Some people will stoop so low to have a pop at the RF. Yes, they're privileged - it's an accident of birth, that's all. Cancer is still cancer. They don't get to avoid that.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 09/11/2024 18:08

I was just reading a post that popped up on twitter saying Kate had pre-cancerous cells not cancer. And preventative chemo rather chemo for cancer.
I then searched twitter and sure enough it's all over it saying how they have lied to the public. Strange!

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 09/11/2024 18:09

Oh I see now this is addressed above

I think he would say absolutely anything to garner sympathy and deflect from C4 Dispatches. I am embarrassed for the family that they have to sink so low. We would not have heard a word were it not for their sudden drop in public respect, IMHO.

Absolutely this.

caringcarer · 09/11/2024 18:18

Having either his wife or Dad with a cancer diagnosis would be bad but they were diagnosed within about a week of each other and he had to keep it together for his kids.

Humphhhh · 09/11/2024 08:22

What does that even mean? I have cancer and the expression the first time is usually chemo to mop up any cells. That means cancer cells. She had/has cancer I don’t doubt it you can see it in her face that’s she’s had chemo steroids etc. they wouldn’t give you six months of random chemo if there no cancer there. I’ve never heard of that protocol,

crumblingschools · 09/11/2024 18:52

Chemo wrecks your body. You wouldn’t have months of it before you are actually ill
