6 black audis ,blues and twos, plus 2 white vans , speeding along the A149 towards King's Lynn away from Sandringham. Blocking junctions. I'm not sure if Charles is in residence at Sandringham. Something seems amiss.

It's not American! It's not that unvlvommon either, though less used these days I suppose.

Have any of you heard the term 'berries and cherries' referring to the blue and red lights on a police car?

Our police force do regular exercises. The helicopter ones were interesting with the high powered lights over our garden.

Sadly these days they use drones. Not exciting at all, can't hear or see them.

Once upon a time our police were the gateway from Ireland so had police cars bristling with weapons. I remember the Welsh conservative conference was held where I worked. I met a few gorgeous sniffer dogs at the venue and again at the main hotel.

There was a submarine in the bay.

I'm laughing at it being called Sandringhzm in the title

It's like a cool rap version

I know about jam sandwiches and panda cars but I didn't really know what blues and twos are.
When I hear a wail I am anxious to know where it's coming from, so I know whether I need to stop or pull over, but I can't tell what kind of vehicle it's from.

I'm probably the only person in the world who felt a bit sorry for Prince Philip when he had his accident turning out of the estate on to the main road. He said the sun was in his eyes. I regularly drive a route which has a short piece where winter sun can absolutely blind you for a moment, even with the dark wraps on, and I knew someone round here whose only ever accident was when winter sun was in his eyes.

When I was younger (1960s/70s) that main road past the Sandringham estate used to have three lanes, one each side for each way and one lane in the middle for cars which wanted to overtake. Can anyone remember that?

I remember one along the King's Lynn bypass, between Knights Hill and the hospital. Driving instructor referred to the lanes as " one to come in, one to go in, and one to die in." Was glad when they got rid of that!

Don't think I remember one around Babbington / Wolferton stretch though.

Edited to add: that would be 90s.

Being "blue lighted" to hospital used to be a common thing on MN, but I don't think I've seen the expression for a while.
People do love a bit of emergency services jargon: "Fetch me a ham sandwich stat."

Here's a good video about how the Special Escort Group work:

I should imagine that anyone who's ever driven in London would appreciate having an escort like this.

‘Jolly good’ - patronising, much?

I was replying to someone else who asked about private school half terms.

Yes but they are not all the same and we had already established several times over that George didn’t break up until yesterday (18th) So it was getting tedious 🤷‍♀️

typo

That was my point - mine had already broken up, so not all the same.

Michaelmas terms do normally break up earlier, I’m surprised Prince George’s school is later.

We live near one of the main roads from London to Windsor and have road blocks quite often, the last time was on the way to swimming lessons on a Sunday morning at 8.45am. There are always a few Range Rovers in the mix though but there's always a real mix of vehicle types and it always starts and ends with police bikes.

Blues and twos is used commonly by the police themselves .
' stick the blues and twos on' when going to an immediate.
As well as pandas and jam sandwiches, there are also battenburgs - mainly traffic cars!
