State banquet dresses must be so hard to get right. They have to accommodate a tiara, major bling and those ugly orders and sashes. The colour of the sash affects the colour of the dress as well. So whilst I wouldn't wear most of her state dresses I do think that most of them are flattering and appropriate for the occasion.

Twistybranch · 29/10/2024 11:44

Yes youre correct , I do think it’s a hard balance for her

  • cost
  • british designer
  • regal, demure but not aging
  • colour that helps you stand out but also works with sashes/tiaras etc

She also is always perfectly tailored and picks a befitting style. She would never make an embarrassing choice….ever. The downside is she makes rather boring and somewhat girly choices. But I have hope! I think she will up her red carpet game.

I wish she would just go for more elegant lines, less sequins. It’s the bloody Jenny Packham numbers that drive me nuts. There’s just too much fuss and frills and sparkly bits. As I say, very prom. I would love a Jackie Kennedy approach to her evening wear. She would look amazing

The orders and sashes must be a nightmare. The first time I read about the late queen's personal order was, I think, when Diana first wore it.
It looked like some scrappy thing made from odds and ends from the haberdashery basket.
I appreciate the honour and the sentiment behind it, but it doesn't enhance a dress.

MrsFinkelstein · 29/10/2024 12:05

@Twistybranch she wore a really lovely black and white dress at a ?Tom Cruise première.

And the ultra tight fitting green bodycon dress she wore last year to Earthshot was stunning and very different for her.

Hopefully we'll see more of that.

Twistybranch · 29/10/2024 12:11

Yes, the black and white one was nice. Simple, looked great.

Twistybranch · 29/10/2024 12:22

Talking of evening gowns……

Harry and Megs were part of the Paley Honors Tribute Host Committee which is honouring Tyler Perry on 4th Dec.

So……

Im guessing if they are both on the committee, they will both be going?. If it’s just Meghan….those split rumours will go wild.

If they appear together, then I’m wondering if she’s going to continue the ‘look’ she last wore….a revealing dress designed to grab tabloid headlines.

I’m guessing Polo will be out early Dec to coincide with this? Maximum publicity for the show? They always plan these things together.

Or will that be Harry’s excuse…..that he can’t attend the awards with Meghan as he has promo for POLO.

EdithWeston · 29/10/2024 12:34

IIRC, Polo debuts on 8 December

lol - I feel judged! I absolutely LOVE the Jenny Packham dresses! I guess my inner evening gown style is prom!

I think Kate has also played it safer up till now as a ‘junior’ royal very very careful not to shine too much against the senior royals when at events together - it’s a sensible strategy - she’s going to be the one they mainly photograph and fawn over in the papers - probably better for internal family relationships that she doesn’t look like she’s trying to be the main attraction when the late Queen and Camilla were entering ahead of her.

My favorite recent gown was the green one in Jamaica paired with those gorgeous emerald earrings.

Twistybranch · 29/10/2024 12:44

@EdithWeston I didn’t know that, thanks!

I'd just love an occasion to wear such fabulous dresses. Might look a bit OTT in the pub.

Seriously they must be hard to get then right and she does a good job of it. You want something original also don't want then to be high fashion or they'll look very dated in a few years when people look back at them.

There was one that looked like an old fashioned toilet roll doll. It was white with ruffles. I didn't like that one at all but most of the others I've thought were fine.

I liked the black velvet dress she wore a few years ago and I quite like the pale blue ruched dress. I'm not a fan of sequins, largely because I think they'd be uncomfortable.

Yes - those things would ruin any kind of look. A black velvet column dress might work with them, but I guess that would be frowned on.

CoffeeCantata · 29/10/2024 13:35

Meghan I think will always be hit and miss because she doesn’t always know how to dress for her shape and increasingly…..age 😬

I suppose that for someone like Meghan daytime formal-wear is a weird concept. Yes, she gets the red-carpet category (doesn't always get it right, but she understands what's required) but I don't suppose a Californian has a clue what to wear to a winter church service or official garden party.

I think she looks good in informal clothes, on the whole, but some of her attempts at royal formal day-wear were just weird. She seems to have only two ideas for her hair, too - either hanging loose or bound into the tightest, oily-looking, severe Wallis Simpson-style bun at the nape.

It really doesn't matter.

Did no-one learn anything from KateGate?

There was certainly a lot of learning for MI5, MI6 and the Foreign Office about the destabilising online tactics of groups of rumour-mongers being manipulated by Russian interests. It's interesting that the umbrella phenomenon is being given a single name - Doppelganger - but it's clear that it applies to a whole disinformation network.

I imagine, as I've said a few times, that the tactics of many of the sacchari are under scrutiny, all the way up to the principles, focusing on not just content but sources of traffic and exchanges of money, good and services.

Do posters recall how many sacchari disappeared from this board and MN in tandem with Catherine's video statement about having cancer treatment?

Yes, yes! I remember Marty Feldman’s eyes and thought Beau Gest was so funny when I was a kid but I do remember it going on a bit…

The Trump camp would nevertheless use Harry Visagate in a heartbeat if they thought they could use it to accuse the Biden/Harris administration of hypocrisy, favouritism and alleged corruption.

Trump himself doesn't give a shit about being accused of the above.

Perfectly acceptable, I think - here’s Queen Mathilde of Belgium and Kate both sporting a similar black velvet gown with orders and badges etc..

The late Queen just wore white evening gowns in her later years - like the black, they worked with any order and jewel combination.

I really liked that look on Kate. How I've missed royal watching this year.

Yes. Other than her own wedding, Catherine is generally not the most important person in the room. She mustn't seem to be distracting attention from the Queen, or the wife of the visiting HoS, or the people in the organisation she is visiting, or who are visiting her.

JSMill · 29/10/2024 19:18

I think if you are in the public eye and are spending the kind of money M is spending you really need to be getting professional guidance. Either she didn't ask for guidance or she didn't listen. I have used a professional stylist once in my life. I was going to a really fancy wedding and was struggling to find something to wear. The sales assistant suggested calling the store's in house stylist. She picked out something I never would have and also made some alterations to the dress that made it fit my shape much better. I felt so stylish. That was just a lady in House of Fraser. M could have had the very best advice in the UK but clearly thought she knew better.

Thanks for posting that article @AutumnCrow

Doppelgängers signature methodology is deploying very large numbers of disposable social media accounts to flood the information space around particular stories," he told the BBC.

"This can prove especially influential when they are able to amplify narratives that appear less overtly political.

"This is precisely what they did in trying to exploit the rumours and conspiracies about the Princess of Wales.

"In repeating and reheating these, they were able to disperse their anti-Ukrainian messaging, whilst also attacking a key British institution - the Royal Family."

Explains the sudden mass disappearance for sure.

Do you mean the disapprearance of anti-kate posters? Or pro MM posters? Or are they one and the same ie Bots? Or that RL individuals had been caught up in this situationand have come to realise they were being used?
