These engagements on both sides have prob been planned months in advance , the Daily Mail is once again trying to cause trouble . Let them both get on with it . Love you Harry !

I agree wirhbyounexcept thr last line about love you Harry lol.

It's just the typical.pjt them against each other story for clicks cos people fall for it.

MrsLeonFarrell · 28/08/2024 14:09

Anyone else bracing for the shit stirring tabloid articles? Even if you don't click on them they get everywhere.

Let's hope Catherine appears in a lovely frock to distract from New York completely 😉

SonicTheHodgeheg · 28/08/2024 14:12

They’ve started with the speculating already. I think that we could come up with some bingo phrases like olive branch which I don’t think will happen.

And the Spare paperback launching at the same time as Charles is doing a tour of Australia and Samoa and attending the Heads of Commonwealth meeting in October.

I fear the RF have got themselves a pair of persistent stalkers.

On a good note, the article says Harry has an engagement with African Parks.

I thought it was said the paperback launch had been put back to next year?

If this latest thing is true I can't see the RF being impressed at it being timed to coincide with a royal tour, but then I can't see them being surprised either - in fact they'd probably be more surprised if some stunt wasn't pulled

BeaRF75 · 28/08/2024 16:06

It's been reported that William definitely won't be in New York st that time, so it's a non-story.

CathyorClaire · 28/08/2024 16:51

Travalyst, eh?

Wonder if he'll clear up the mystery of what happened to the funds transferred beyond scrutiny from the Royal Foundation way back when.

BemusedAmerican · 29/08/2024 00:04

Considering his carbon footprint, he is in no position to lecture people about ecotravel. They had the equivalent of a small army in Colombia alone, not to mention Nigeria's security. None of those people were riding horses.

If he gets pepper sprayed by an elderly birdwatcher, most people will feel bad for the birdwatcher.

elessar · 29/08/2024 07:50

It's a funny move isn't it, someone who's so worried about their safety announcing a good month in advance that they're planning a visit to NY on a particular day.

If those concerns were in any way real, surely he'd visit under the radar and then have all the announcements made the following day once he'd left.

IsoldeWagner · 29/08/2024 07:54

True, @elessar - they love the publicity and want the photos and the tabloid headlines though, so other "concerns" take a back seat.
It's rather like the clicks and the flashes not bothering him at all now, in spite of claims that they're "triggering".

The non event car chase is being described as the castratrophic car chase. In what way? Castratrophic in that they couldn't make more of a drama out of it.

IsoldeWagner · 29/08/2024 08:00

It's an other example of - shall we say - how they exaggerate situations to promote their sense of victimhood.

Yes and making up mythical situations to twists arms and get their own way. Like money for security paid for by the UK public. He isn't going to give up on this one. There will be an incident IMHO.

Urgenthelplease · 29/08/2024 08:23

Sorry what? His mum died being chased by paparazzi in a car. What's unusual about him not enjoying a mere 'one hour' car chase with his wife and mother in law. Fair enough.

IsoldeWagner · 29/08/2024 08:26

Because it wasn't "a catastrophic car chase".
This is a couple actively seeking publicity and the limelight. Since they left the protection of the UK, they've often been papped. They don't seem to bother too much, so I don't know what was different about this episode?

Rhaidimiddim · 29/08/2024 08:42

BemusedAmerican · 29/08/2024 00:38

Someone BTL pointed out that no official body has announced that he will receive enhanced security; that, if you parse the text of the article, it harks back to announcements made after the 'catastrophic car chase' and probably relates to that dodgy letter.

It was late when I read the article, and I don't have time to re-read the article right now, but the BTL's conclusion that this was an example of Sussex manifesting rang true at the time.

But, to echo others - who else makes such a fuss over how much state protection they're going to get when out and about? Especially when his visits seem to be nothing official, just bread-and-butter visits to organisations he has affiliations with.

When e.g. Emma Watson or Angelina Jolie turn up in NY to address the actual UN - as in, an international governing body - you hear about the visit and why they're making it.

H turns up to get lunch with a few board members of a few charities he is associated with, and all we hear is the 'security' whine. Nothing about the work of the charities he is there for, nothing on what the meetings are about or why he's holding them now.

The story is - look at me, I'm coming to NY and I'm gonna get enhanced security!

Obviously NY Post are not their target audience but this comment did make me laugh

"With the release of "Spare" in paperback, I'm sure the crowds will be overwhelming. " Spare" is a harrowing tale of abuse and deprivation. When I read he got one less sausage than William, I couldn't control my tears. Prince Harry's struggle for freedom deserves the same admiration we accord to Ghandi, Mandela, and Navalny."

Indeed - and wasn't it Harry who criticised the British media for announcing his attendance at the St Pauls Invictus service because of the risk to his security?

Of course that was in the UK though, where he seems to feel uniquely threatened despite much riskier places apparently being okay

I hadn't realised the NY visit would coincide with a UN "climate event" and normally I'd expect he'd want to blow a gale about that, but after the attendance at his last UN thing maybe he'll prefer to stay away?

MrsLeonFarrell · 29/08/2024 09:22

I have a question for any Americans here, do other celebrities do press releases in advance about their attendance at charity events? I've seen posts on Instagram afterwards or posts advertising auctions in advance but not ones simply saying they are going to turn up.

No, they don't. You may see something afterward mentioning that they showed up but not ahead of time. If they were a special guest they would be announced to drive attendance but otherwise they just go.

David Bowie lived above an NYPL library branch in Soho, got a library card, and checked out books. He also spent years wandering NYC holding a Strand tote bag. Everyone recognized him. No one bothered him.

One of my co-workers commented, after seeing a photo of Harry in a baseball bat and polo shirt, that he looked like any other Millenial and no one would look at him twice in NYC.

This is what I suspected. I think the Sussexes would get a lot more respect if they started acting like the celebrities they are rather than cos playing working royals. Plus of Harry was really worried about security it makes more sense to publicise charities after events.

Mind you if William (and many other celebrities I've read about but they are beside the point) can move around New York without being bothered I don't see what makes Harry think he is so super special he needs tonnes more security than the actual heir.
