Anyone watching this? It's on My5. I thought the first episode was interesting. I was reminded of how popular they were and how much support they got.

Well, @Spectre8 maybe all your friends and acquaintances are all better people than William and Kate. Is that your point?
What did you think of the C5 documentary?

I missed that - and googling isn't returning any hits.

Can you link?

(It sounds very unlikely - so really am interested to see what she said)

I would have to name change if I tell you how I know. 😉

IsoldeWagner · 19/08/2024 12:10

I find it very hard to believe that Anne said that about psychiatry.

I don't need your private version Grin

Just something that shows it's "famously" known!!

While the image of Harry walking behind his mothers coffin was tragic, stark and will never go away, I've always felt a lot of sympathy for the not much older William. I was "counsellor" and very much parentified (when it suited her) to a mother in an unhappy marriage and it is damaging, in ways you don't truly grasp until later, because this is your "normal". I obviously don't know exactly how it affected William, but I know it will have. The stories of him pushing handfuls of tissues under the door when she was crying strike a chord with me, the desperation you feel to give comfort to someone you love is very strong and the fact you can't, painful. It does harm. To then lose that (I am sure much loved) parent suddenly, mid teens, is an extra layer to it all and I can only imagine how hard it was for him, as someone who had had an unasked for role as her protector and support.

For me, William's ability to create a happy marriage and become a clearly loving and involved father speaks to great strength of character. I admire and respect him for it.

I agree with this. He’s also had to look out for Harry and manage him . The toll that must have taken is enormous. We are now seeing what a loose cannon Harry is.

I would say "highly unlikely" unless otherwise proven 🙄

This tedious “argument” again!

It would appear so Milkshake.

I don't know any family who have both stopped working, either one is full time or at the very least part time working. Because lost people cant afford to both not be working. It's a privilege if you can both stop working and still be able to pay your bills, pay for activities, go on holidays etc whilst raising your children up. Plenty of people raise secure kids whilst doing some form of work and are still present for their children

Also William is not forced to work until he drops dead, don't be so dramatic and hyperbolic over it. He can hand over the reigns and step back just like Queen could have but she chose not to. It's a choice!

Plenty of people are not royals. They are not in line to be head of state. They don’t have children with the eyes of the world on them. They are not an ordinary family. They have an extraordinary job that few could fathom - clearly not those with no idea of duty and the weight of history.

Yes he could abdicate (to do what, exactly, because people like you would still call him lazy if he did?), but since that has a massive effect on his children, it’s not something he is going to do lightly, nor is he likely to feel that his duty as head of state is so disposable. That’s not how he was brought up by his father or mother, who took her son’s future role extremely seriously.

In any event, he hasn’t stopped working, she has temporarily whilst having chemo - which I am sure you would do if you could - and has done a couple engagements. They are off for the summer holidays as usual. William, and hopefully Catherine, will be back when term starts. It’s been 5 months since her diagnosis - she’s not exactly taking the piss, is she? Well not in the minds of anyone with an ounce of compassion, anyway.

WhatALoadOfOldTenure · 19/08/2024 12:48

Or an ounce of sense.

As small as those two ounces are, there is no room to squeeze them in when folk are full of spite. And its rhyming cousin.

I think sometimes, @Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar compassion goes out of the window for some people. Which is sad.

The whole world watched this wonderful couple meet, marry, and have children!
Meghan is certainly a looker and extremely vivacious! Harry is very much like his mother, the people's prince! Likeability was off the charts!

Looking objectively I saw HM sore very high very quickly, their tour to Canada, Australia, and New Zealand was incredible. It was like they were rock stars!

When the Fab 4 was on stage together, Meghan's personality certainly outshined Catherine's rather dull personality (Stepford Wife), as Omid Scobie wrote (LOL). Williams's face says it all, with dark bags under his eyes. On a side note, William is looking uglier as he gets older!

By the time the South African tour was underway, they were more popular than the Queen and the rest of the RF!

This is when the negative press against Meghan really ramped up!

As in Harry's book, he quoted "You are not allowed to outshine the Queen!"

If people on here don't think the RF doesn't control the press, how come there has not been one documentary on Camilla? Or that Charles was allowed to marry his mistress?
No documentary on how Camilla's family was affected over the years by her ongoing affair with Charles!

Currently, the remaining working RF members are breaking down! 2 people are extremely ill!
Whereas HM is a picture of health!
Go figure

IsoldeWagner · 19/08/2024 12:56

@leeanthonyw68 is that what you got from this documentary?
Fascinating.

(Btw wanted to clarify before I Megxit the thread- by American's therapy journeys I'm thinking of the the fact that many Americans seem more comfortable with articulating therapy language that we may not expect from the RF. Princess Anne, for eg, famously dismisses psychiatry as nonsense.)

What has what Anne thinks (if indeed that is what she thinks) got to do with Harry? As has been said, William, Harry and Catherine formed the Heads Together idea and openly talked about mental health. Things have moved on a bit 🙄

I take it you have forgotten the “ Camilla - the uncrowned Queen “ documentary from around 2000 ?

ALovelyCupOfNameChange · 19/08/2024 13:01

well that’s bollocks for a start. The queens seen it all before with Diana, fergie etc. they’ve all outshone her at some point, she knew the cycle of it

Mylovelygreendress · 19/08/2024 13:03

Oh and “Charles and Camilla -whatever love is “ shown in 2005 ?

remind me of the cancer stats again? How many of us get it?

WinnieTheW0rm · 19/08/2024 13:05

I think there are no documentaries about Camilla because her circle seems to be entirely leakproof, so there would be very little to tell other than what's already on the record and maybe some snippets from people who have met her (who can say how she comes across, but probably not what really makes her tick)

I expect someone will pull it all together for telly (there's at least 1 biography in print) and that if done it would get decent ratings. But it wouldn't be must-watch - because it's really unlikely there would be revelations. That's not because of a lack of interest in her per se, rather a recognition that the parts of the story that are known are very well known.

Though of course there might be some mileage in showing those who do not remember it at the time just how foul the press coverage was, and the length - including illegal lengths - the pre-Levenson press went to obtain (and publish) private conversations.

And so much nastiness. Taking lessons from your heroine there, I see, spreading the love not

Sussurations · 19/08/2024 13:16

I agree with @WinnieTheW0rm , Camilla doesn’t court publicity and what we know about her really isn’t all that interesting. A bit like Catherine, I imagine she is probably interesting if you know her personally, but I can’t say I’d be tripping over myself to watch documentaries about them. It’s one of the strengths of the general RF and the late Queen’s approach of never complaining or explaining and being quite bland. It’s just not that interesting. When people court the press, like Diana or Harry, and/or there is a very clear mismatch between how they see themselves and how the public sees them, like Harry, Meghan, Andrew and perhaps to some extent Princess Margaret, that’s when they become interesting, from a psychological perspective. I think also with Harry and Meghan there have been times when their behaviour was so unusual it created interest - thinking of the birth announcement for Archie for example - and this starts conversations and even conspiracy theories which then need more info to feed them.
