Anyone watching this? It's on My5. I thought the first episode was interesting. I was reminded of how popular they were and how much support they got.

@IsoldeWagner and @Manypaws

My family was not huge but I had siblings - My mother used to pretty much slice the Viennetta with a micrometer ( is that even a word ) so that none of us could say that's not fair - they got more than I did. I wonder if Harry had been a sibling of mine he would have laid off the whole "it's no fair " Spare thing 😂

IsoldeWagner · 21/08/2024 19:06

Oh dear, can you imagine Harry writing about sharing a Vienetta?! That would be an entire chapter of "Spare" wouldn't it? How William got 0.5cms more than him! 😂
Such a happy man!

🤣 the winner was the one that got the end piece as it always had more of the cream

BasiliskStare · 21/08/2024 19:13

@IsoldeWagner 😁👏 I can imagine Harry complaining about anything but truly he needs to count his blessings . & that made me laugh - a whole chapter about how Wills got a bigger slice of Vienetta - & the thing is it actually isn't too far from the truth . Harry should be grateful he never met my mother or my granny

You were obviously not alive during the War of the Waleses.
Charles painted Diana as a flighty crazy ex wife. Charles gave a TV interview, had an authorised book written, and leaked lots of stories about Diana and their marriage.

Did he say something in the interview that painted Diana as a flighty, crazy ex-wife? If so, what was it? I do remember that he said he had been unfaithful in his marriage 'when the marriage had broken down irretrievably'.

In her interview, Diana said that she didn't think Charles would be king and she questioned the suitability of the person involved, to be king.

IsoldeWagner · 21/08/2024 19:16

He should be grateful he's never had to experience 99% of what ordinary people go through, ice cream based desserts or something else!
I did laugh at him complaining about having the smaller bedroom....of whatever castle or palace he lived in!

It means Charles can claim whatever he wants and Diana's voice is silenced.
William also called Diana paranoid.

I do not care about the rest of the Royal Family, but I do care about Diana. The only one who used her position to make a real difference.

I can't help thinking that there are some people who took part in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award? Scheme? and some who were helped by The Prince's Trust, who wouldn't agree that Diana was the only one to use her position to make a difference. Fair enough if you don't care about 'the rest of the RF', but
you lose credibility by more or less wiping them off the face of the earth.

Is it possible that a person can suffer from paranoia at some point in her/his life, but not all the time?

Oh I was very much alive, ty, remember it all.

Please tell me what Charles has said that is negative about her since Diana's death. You may or may not have noticed that the narrative has moved on somewhat, Charles remarried and now King, William speaking out against the so called journalist (Bashir, who I think has blood on his hands) and Harry's strange reminiscences about 8 Hour Cream and well, etc, etc.

BasiliskStare · 21/08/2024 19:29

@Nadeed You may be right and recollections may vary but I think Nicholas Soames was the one who criticsied Diana and he was ( as I recall ) very critisied for doing it.

I definitely remember that period and don’t recall any of that !

The easiest way for Charles to see and spend time with his grandchildren in a safe (and perfectly secure) and private way would be for Harry and Meghan or just Harry to bring the children to Balmoral this summer.

It would be very easy for them to fly in unreported - spend time with family and fly out again unreported.

Maybe they have done exactly that?

But if they haven’t it’s very likely not Charles’ fault. The ball is in Harry’s court - bring the kids over to the UK - stay on a royal property to that all security issues are taken care of. Don’t alert the press you are coming like he did when he flew over when the cancer diagnosis was announced.

That takes care of all security issues and facilitates the visit - much easier than Charles - currently undergoing cancer treatment - to have to involve all the protocols and issues with a HOS visiting another country.

Balmoral would be ideal . The Queen was wandering around nearby Ballater the other day !

I love this video of Charles just bumping into some cyclists on his walk. I've included the whole video because before the encounter you get to see the cool bothy they stay in on the Balmoral estate and after the encounter some amazing mountain biking.

I was. And no, he didn't. I was Team Diana. But I do not remember Charles ever dissing Diana. Have you some convincing
links?

MrsLeonFarrell · 21/08/2024 19:56

These threads are starting to remind me of the film 50 First Dates.

(And for the record Charles never called Diana crazy.)

I wasn't team anyone, unless, oh my word it was a bad idea for them to marry, was a team. In which case I was that team.

I understand why she did it and I think they both gave it their best shot, it just didn't work because neither had the qualities the other needed to flourish.

I agree - it wasn't as though she didn't take into account who and what he was when she married him. He was considered one of the most eligible bachelors in the world at the time - because the woman who married him was going to be a Queen in one of the most famous monarchies in the world.

The press speculation was insane any time he was even seen in a single woman's company.

I always think the tabloids were cross that William was boring and settled so early for one girl and then they kept having to find things to write about her and her family for ten years.

I'm sure Diana hoped for more romance - and definitely didn't anticipate the Camilla situation.

But as they said in Pride and Prejudice about Elizabeth and Mr Darcy, which then inspired the famous Mrs Merton quip to Debbie McGee...

"What was it that first attracted you to the rich, playboy, heir to the throne of the United Kingdom?"

Nadeed · 21/08/2024 20:22

Diana was 19 years old when she became engaged to Charles at 32. He was her first boyfriend. She had very little life experience in comparison to Charles.
Diana had gone to school, followed by a Swiss finishing school which is a very controlled environment. She shared a flat with some friends and worked part time in a private nursery as an assistant. She was a shy virgin.

Exactly this - but with an important that point missing in this account. Diana was was in London flatsharing and doing unskilled jobs in childcare and domestic work (because she had no qualifications) for two years before she met Charles. Not because this was intended to be her career, but because both she and presumably her family were expecting she’d meet and marry a wealthy husband.

Whatever. Nice change of tack. Are you going to acknowledge that Charles never badmouthed Diana like the majority of us have said?

eta I’m sure we’ve had pretty much this exact same discussion recently 🤷‍♀️
