Anyone watching this? It's on My5. I thought the first episode was interesting. I was reminded of how popular they were and how much support they got.

Dumbarton is NOT a name you would give a child living in the US.

Perhaps not, but it also shows up Harry and Meghan as being a bit shallow, whether they didn't like the name Dumbarton, or were hanging out for Prince rather than Lord. And by the time Archie's was born, they were already advanced with their 'flight' to the US, so didn't want the Dumbarton title due to US misconceptions.

Vespanest · 21/08/2024 13:12

I’m not sure Prince and Princess are names you should give to children living in the US.

Luddite26 · 21/08/2024 13:30

I speak from a person who married a 37 year old man at age 17. With all his female hangers on.

Your name is on the tea towel too late to back out
Her naivety. Of course Johnny Spencer was proud as punch. And the grandmother's all thought it jolly right. But it wasn't. And having the shadow of Camilla lurking led to further Diana s mental health problems.
Very different times thank God.
One good thing the last Government did was to make marriage in this country illegal till the age of 18 - personally from my own experience it should be 21. Nobody needs to get married before that age.
And to be told by your husband that you should be more fun like Sarah Ferguson what an insult. And look where Sarah Ferguson has got Andrew right on Epstein's special list.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. When it was initially announced he would just be Master Archie, I thought they were taking proactive steps to prepare their child for a life that wouldn’t be ‘royal’ and I thought that was a good thing. What was said in the Oprah interview demonstrated that complete lack of understanding of what being royal was that seems to have permeated their entire relationship. And that is on Harry.

But Archie did have a title at birth - Earl of Dumbarton !

Mylovelygreendress · 21/08/2024 13:55

Apologies x post .

FloofPaws · 21/08/2024 13:56

@Mylovelygreendress - maybe MM is reading soon and will be reminded of this, dippy Hazza clearly forgot this when she told porkies at the OW interview 🤡😵‍💫🍜

Exactly. That or Lord Archie. And Lady Lili

They were happy enough to elect to reject his birthright at the time of his birth. Which is why I've never found the idea that they must be Prince and Princess because birthright a logical (and therefore persuasive) reason for choosing to use them.

I think the Edinburghs made better choices, and Lady Louise was wise to stick with that even after she turned 18.

BasiliskStare · 21/08/2024 15:00

I reckon they wanted the titles because it looks like a closer connection to the rf. & it does look like she likes the titles - but maybe it was Harry . I think turning down the earl of Dumbarton was just shallow as a PP has said & they could equally have turned down the titles Prince and Princess at the moment and A & L could have chosen to use them at 18 rather than the other way about. Unless something happens with their relationship with the RF I do think Archie and Lily may just question why they have not had regular visits to their grandparent and Aunties and uncles & I hope against hope Harry does not tell them that the UK is intrinsically dangerous for them. I think that would be disingenuous.

IsoldeWagner · 21/08/2024 16:30

They'll find out one day, @BasiliskStare . They'll also find out what liars their parents were, and how they behaved.
Which is a shame.

@IsoldeWagner - I do agree with you . If Archie and Lily have any brains about them as they get older they will see how their parents behaved and perhaps question it. I don't know - not my children but I can imagine it happening.

IsoldeWagner · 21/08/2024 16:46

Also, the girl may question why she was called "Lilibet" and not just Lily, or even Elizabeth, bearing in mind the relationship with the family.

Lol!! You lot are funny.
So now the children are going to grow up and agree with your vendetta against Harry and Meghan, their parents?

IsoldeWagner · 21/08/2024 16:51

Vendetta? Isn't that an ice cream dessert??

I haven't had it years but could go some now

Nadeed · 21/08/2024 16:54

@Manypaws sure because the only family they have is Charles, William and Kate?
They do see their family. Meghan's family, the Spencers, the York's.

Or their parents will brainwash them into believing the RF were just so mean to them so they had to escape. Get them when they’re young.

BasiliskStare · 21/08/2024 16:57

@Manypaws - when I was young a vienetta (p ? ) was a treat.

Bloody hell!!

You know families fall out all the time. It is usually a bit of both. But you have all cast this fall out as goodies versus baddies. It is childish.

Manypaws · 21/08/2024 16:58

Oh yes, it was considered quite sophisticated back then

They don't though, do they, unless it's at funerals or official events. And the only person in Meghan’s family they see is her mother. Bit telling, no?
