Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announce they will visit Colombia

mol.im/a/13698271

Another country on the "Don't travel" list.

"But the UK and US governments have both issued security alerts over travelling to Colombia amid fears over crime, terrorism, civil unrest and kidnapping - and Harry's decision to visit comes amid his ongoing battle for his security when in Britain.
The UK's Foreign and Commonwealth Office 'advises against all but essential travel to parts of Colombia'. And the US Department of State issued a travel advisory for Colombia stating: 'Reconsider travel due to crime and terrorism. Exercise increased caution due to civil unrest and kidnapping. Some areas have increased risk.'"

Perhaps he thinks this is the way to get his security reconsidered? Personally I'd say the opposite.
If he still had UK security I'd expect them to do a risk assessment and say "NO".
Why should security personnel be put at risk by being required to travel to these dangerous destinations.

Are they there yet?

Because Megs needs adoring crowds at least bi-annually. Besides she probably has 0.0034% Columbian ancestry or something? It's a family thing, you wouldn't understand.

😂 This has made me think of vampires! Yes, Meghan must have adoring crowds at least twice a year or she'll wither away. I think it's called 'narcissistic fuel'. She clearly needs it to validate, and even just to believe in, her self-image.

CoffeeCantata · 15/08/2024 14:10

AS to Harry's quest for paid-for security in the UK, I'm sure they are at cross purposes here. Meghan is not planning ever to return to the UK because she knows she'd get a rough ride from most of the public, and certainly the RF. She's probably told Harry it's because of security fears, so he keeps plugging away at this. Meanwhile, Meghan has intimated that she wishes Harry would let it go - because it's just a pretext, and if he actually got the IPP status he's after, she'd then have no convenient excuse to avoid a trip back. Also, if his wish were granted, it would be more difficult for Meghan to refuse to allow the children (without her) to visit the UK. I'm sure she doesn't want this, but she probably doesn't want to come out and admit it.

I agree. On the one hand, it would be amusing if Harry got his wish and was granted security just to see if he would actually come back with Meghan when she no longer had the excuse of lack of security 😂

No! Shall we have a wager on Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex's first outfit?

Something white, long and floaty with a scarf. Flat shoes. She will of course be wearing enough jewellery to fund a small primary school in an impoverished area for a couple of years, and “Diana’s watch” for those with a sentimental nature to sigh over.

If they come to see Charles they get security, as Harry did when he saw his dad after the cancer announcement, for 20 mins . The full on convoy, the palace made a point, it was something to behold.

What they don’t get security for is when they are doing their own private shit. Nor additional security when staying in a palace, on account of it being a palace and as secure as it gets.

if Harry and Megan came to see Charles they’d have full security. The bit what’s being argued, is he wants it where ever he goes doing his own stuff.

LiterallyOnFire · 15/08/2024 15:23

Is he saying he can’t give 28 days notice of his birthday? 😂

I don't think Maths is his strong suit.

MummyJ12 · 15/08/2024 15:26

I’m late to the party on this one!
Looks like People magazine are out and Harpers Bazaar have exclusive access. Their culture correspondent Bianca Betancourt is travelling with them. A sympathetic, cherry picked journalist again. No access for any other journalists or publications by the looks of it.
This is going to be like the blue print set out in Nigeria where every single thing is controlled and managed for maximum positive PR. So that they can declare it a success.

Edited

I’m not sure that’s feasible. Local journos, locals attending events will all take pics. There is no way for it to be exclusive to anyone.

MummyJ12 · 15/08/2024 15:32

They managed it in Nigeria @Theweepywillow.

MummyJ12 · 15/08/2024 15:33

You have seen the picture of Meghan sitting down with an armed guard stood behind her? They control everything!

Theweepywillow · 15/08/2024 15:37

They managed it in Nigeria @Theweepywillow.

But they didn’t, there was candid pics and it was in every publication?

Twistybranch · 15/08/2024 15:38

They do tightly control everything on these tours but I wonder if it will go a little awry with the Chief of Staff leaving. Surely it’s connected to this tour and he doesn’t want anything to do with it

JADS · 15/08/2024 15:42

Just because it's tightly controlled doesn't mean it will be a PR success. Nigeria wasn't.

Which was a bit unfortunate as the history of every person in the group was researched, and a lot of them were found to have very dubious histories.

I imagine they have tried to limit this for Columbia, but it will be impossible for them to regulate or vet who is invited to events and gets to be in the photos. Stand by for more drama!

They’ll try and declare it a success like they tried to in Nigeria. (Even if it’s just the squad). Many of us agree that it wasn’t a success, especially the fallout regarding the owner of Air Peace and the First Lady’s comments. Maybe they’ve learned lessons but I doubt it. I’m sure drama will ensue somewhere and somehow!

I wonder how one defines the 'success' - or otherwise - of a faux royal tour?

What exactly is their objective here?

MummyJ12 · 15/08/2024 15:51

Only one official reporter that they’ve hand picked anyways 🙃

Good question, @IcedPurple

MummyJ12 · 15/08/2024 15:53

Excellent question @IcedPurple. Probably just adoration and a bit of fawning equates to success for them, but who knows!

I think that's pretty much the shape of it, yes.

They will want the pretence that this is some sort of official trip by the Dook and Dookess. I find it quite bizarre. If they'd stayed as working royals, they'd be in high demand as the two relatively young, healthy royals who could travel abroad to represent the monarchy. Yet here they are, slumming it with 5th rate versions of what they could have had.

I just don't get it.

MummyJ12 · 15/08/2024 15:57

The penny has just dropped on the Harper’s Bazaar link with Omid Scobie 🤢

I always think it's like that story of the dog and the bone. A dog had a bone, but when he was crossing a river he saw another dog with a bone, so wanted that, too. He opened his mouth to snatch it, and dropped his bone in the river. The other dog was his reflection.
They wanted more than they had, and through greed and folly, have ended up with less.

First picture. Check out the photo credit “for Archewell” so Archewell money is being spent on their personal photographer.
