I prefer H & M to W & K
Kate , to me comes across as incredibly arrogant and I don’t get how people gush over her.
Camilla is amazing, you can see how happy she has made the King and it’s a shame they weren’t allowed to be together from the beginning
Just my unpopular opinion

@OperationGoldenDawn . Appearances? So it looks good to have babies? But why not just have babies then? Why get involved in an extremely complicated lie to have fake babies?

What about if its nothing to do with money? What about if its more related to thinking that no family or set of people should be seen as more special than another?

I just don't care and cannot understand why it's such a problem for some people.

could be many reasons and strategies

Totally agree. For most of my lifetime (I’m 62) she appeared to be a grumpy and haughty peripheral figure. Suddenly she has become a ‘national treasure’ constantly being reported on as a jolly hockey sticks no nonsense trouper. I think it can only be because the RF realised they were running out of stars and needed to bring an old one back into the limelight to fill the depleted stage of the royal family show so they tried to re brand Princess Anne.

The weirdest rewriting of history about Princess. Anne was the way she was portrayed in The Crown in the 1970s episodes. If you hadn’t been alive then you might have got the impression she was a groovy youngster. Nothing could be further from the truth.

My opinion of Princess Anne is diametrically opposed, to yours. The negative reasons you give are completely based on gossip and hearsay, not on actual facts.

She has always been the hardest working royals, second only to her late Mother, supporting some 300 patronages, charities and worthy causes, the most important of which is Save the Children, which she has actively supported for the past 54 years since 1970.

She made sure her two children had a normal grounded childhood without royal titles, which I think is a big plus.

Whether you like her or don't, at least judge her on the service she has given the country and its citizens, not on her being "grumpy", which is a pretty trivial and shallow reason to judge a human being you've probably never met and can't know her as a person.

Agreed that Kate is extremely lazy. It was so disappointing she never pursued a career after graduating from university- she could have been such an inspiration to young women instead of being portrayed by the media as a very thin, bland clothes horse. Or as Hilary Mantel said she is "a shop window mannequin” whose sole purpose was to provide an heir to the throne.

It's well known that she did have a job but had to give it up because the press were making life impossible for her AND for her colleagues who were being hassled and beseiged by photographers (who shouted horrible things at Catherine to attract her attention eg 'slut'). It got to the point where she couldn't go out.

But of course, the narrative is that only Meghan got badly treated!

She didn't give up the job because of the press. She made it clear to the accessories buying team at Jigsaw that she would be very part time and would come and go as she pleased, to fit in with William's demands. Jigsaw was owned by friends of her parents so she was indulged but even that was too much for her.

Quite.
I think this is one of the weirdest conspiracy theories I've encountered.

And I don't understand the thing about Meghan's bump "popping" Confused

yes, access to various bunkers that the general public would have no clue of

That's their privilege - not their skill. There's a film to be made here about how the royals would survive in a zombie apocalypse. How would Kate run away in her wedge espadrilles? Would the three children still be immaculate in blue outfits? Would the brothers make up for the sake of humanity? So many options for the plot. I'd go to see it. There, I've found a use for the royals.

She had a job as an accessories buyer for Jigsaw! I mean ok, technically that's a career but it's hardly human rights lawyer, marine biologist, doctor or nurse or teacher levels of inspirational, is it? With no need to make money I think she could have done something a bit more meaningful!

BustingBaoBun · 24/07/2024 20:41

I think there should be a Monarch and their spouse and THAT IS IT. They should be paid enough to run the constitutional Monarchy, with a small team of advisers, preparing their papers to sign or whatever.

I do not want to see the rest of them... NONE of them. Ever. Until it's time for a new Monarch and spouse. I find the whole family boring, they annoy me too much with their poncing around at prestige events, they are just a privileged family. No great shakes. The mainstream media needs to get a grip with their incessant nonsense about them, and we need to grow up as a country. We've had them disappear for periods of time and the world hasn't stopped.

The rest of them can take a hike... at least the three little children might have a bit of a life, I find it cruel for George to have his life mapped out for him at 0 years old.

User14March · 24/07/2024 20:42

@TheWoodlanders egg freezing is the norm for 30 something actresses in her previous circles. If you eventually get a break & want career longevity & keep your job I can see why even if I don’t agree. I witnessed a beautiful American actress, working on a show in Canada, openly talking about future surrogate plans. This wasn’t well received by Brits.

If MM said she was using a surrogate for one or both children for health reasons & to keep figure etc, if the case. How would that have affected UK popularity etc? Be seen in firm?

If she did I imagine only a very few would know & they’d be NDAed.

CurlewKate · 24/07/2024 20:43

@BustingBaoBun "Depends what you class as work. Being pleasant to people that are boring, appearing to be interested in things you’re not, having to look perfect, composed, setting an good example, opening events, shaking hands, being involved in charities etc etc. That is their work ."

I rest my case.

their skill would be connecting with the right people to achieve those results

nildesparandum · 24/07/2024 20:45

Kate gets on my nerves, I have never met the woman but she seems really spoilt and pampered and obsessed with looking perfect.

Bagpussisnotmyhero · 24/07/2024 20:46

Prince Philip was possibly a borderline racist. All those comments over the years.

Princess Ann is rude but also pleasant and an intelligent woman.

Prince William and his wife were consider lazy, workshy and somewhat dull. Then Meghan joined Harry and a rocket 🚀 exploded under them. Suddenly, they were competing and the press helped them by how they treated Meghan and Harry. Starting with the cost of renovating their first home and creating copper ‘Bathgate’.

Prince Andrew had his needs met through Epstein’s sex trafficking.

The Duchess of York is quite bonkers in a cute way.

Princess B and Princess E are nice.

Prince Edward and Sophie did all sorts of weird shit to get money. Eventually, they were brought in and now we are supposed to think they are wonderful and so supportive. They were paid to stop embarrassing the family.

King Charles is happiest in the garden or dreaming of being a tampon.

Queen Camilla likes smoking, dogs and horses, her grandchildren, reading, eating sweets and her husband.

Lady Di was loved by Charles but he couldn’t cope with her illnesses.

Harry watched everything and took it all in.

Meghan rescued Harry and he her. They have made a success of life post being the only royals with star quality. Except for Kate now, who raised her game, kept her own counsel, overtook everyone in the popularity stakes and won the hearts of many royalists and especially Daily Mail readers. And the posh crowd at Wimbledon. Since Christmas she has now achieved saint-like status has become untouchable.

itsnotabouthepasta · 24/07/2024 20:46

I think a lot of the Harry and Meghan drama was caused by the queen,

I agree with her belief that you were either in or out, and not to monetise the crown, but every decision was down to her - not Charles and certainly not William.

I also think that h&M repeatedly changed their story. When the queen was alive, it was all Charles fault. When Charles became King, everything became Williams fault. They will be in for a rude awakening when William becomes king and he cuts them off entirely. I believe after Charles’ funeral, William and Harry won’t ever speak again.

Owl55 · 24/07/2024 20:48

If Charles wants so much to see his American grandchildren he could easily choose too , I seriously wonder if his cancer is as serious as implied . The Queen Consort gets on my nerves ! They are billionaires with so much property I find it insulting they sprout on about homelessness, I find their treatment of Harry and Meghan disgraceful and the fact they are so scared of the press telling their secrets they do not support Harry taking the newspapers to court .
Thats all I have to say !

TheWoodlanders · 24/07/2024 20:48

@User14March yes, egg freezing is becoming more common, and not just in Canada or with celebrities. But surrogacy does not necessarily follow from egg freezing. Many women do it to make sure they have eggs later on when they want to conceive and give birth themselves.

I love that you and me are debating the worth of the Royal family in a Zombie apocalypse. Tell you what, I'll let you have them if it happens.

I am 62 and have been reading royal gossip for entertainment most of my life and I can't think of one thing they did that would qualify as 'weird shit' what do you mean?

wordler · 24/07/2024 17:34

I think Camilla is doing a great job as Queen and I think she’s more suited to the role and to Charles than Diana would have been.

I agree.

User14March · 24/07/2024 20:56

@TheWoodlanders surrogacy more common than you’d think in aspiring actress circles USA/Canada for reasons given & this was 5 years ago. At least IME. Carrying the baby yourself means you’re not going to be a star. Imagine true in celeb circles too. This was a key driver re: egg freezing.

CurlewKate · 24/07/2024 20:56

@BustingBaoBun "I'm not sure what that 'case' is in relation to my views in my post"

Your definition of work!

CurlewKate · 24/07/2024 20:59

I'm not and never been a fan of Diana. But the way she was treated by Charles and Camilla was shocking. And the reinvention of Charles and Camilla is one of the most amazing PR snowjobs of all time
