Even this-a "unpopular opinions about the RF" thread has become a home for Team WC v Team HM.

Me? I'm Team Equal Opportunities Loathing!

Well, apart from the horses and the coaches and the jewels. I like them.

HardyGreyOP · 27/07/2024 20:33

The monarchy is a racket. By keeping a monarch and one heir to the private estates and businesses it catapults wealth into perpetuity. If you take the role of HOS away then it is a game changer for the House of Windsor. They can no longer get away with all their secrecy, hiding things in wills, etc etc. So yes, doing anything to protect what they have (short of eating their young) means they are capable of leaking stories to the tabloids.

Maybe so, but I always tell the Woof, the whole Woof and nothing but the Woof!

But the Queen didn’t want the butler in court forgot about the butler. Never mind though. It was the Queen after all! 😂

CathyorClaire · 27/07/2024 20:43

What about the fuss and cost of electing such a HoS though?

It's the principle. But for an accident of birth order we'd now have a morally bankrupt buffoon for a king and nothing whatever to be done about it.

Another accident of birth order would have had Good King Harold waiting in the wings.

And in pure financial terms that's without taking into account the massive sums diverted from the public purse in the name of the Duchies along with the never now debated and never to be reduced (53% increase this year) Sovereign Grant.

Principles? Pah! I'm a happy pragmatist.* *
I've seen so much damage done by principle and dogma over my career - I'm very suspicious of them.

Neat duck 😉

Poor Diana, treated terribly but I bet she was bloody hard work. And the thought of her as a MIL? Given her ability to fall out with everyone, I reckon she'd be a bloody nightmare.

Yes - a troubled woman, but I think she could sulk and ghost people to an Olympic standard.

TicTacToes · 27/07/2024 21:27

I am a Republican for a reason. There is far too much shady business concerning the Royal Family and wealth. Seems to me we should spend less time focussing on the side show of who is on the outs with who and follow the money, the hustles, the expenditure of those living in the UK. I really hate being taken for a fool by the newspapers who do not adhere to their obligations as members of what is known as the ‘5th estate’.

…but I do like Harry. 🤭

Why? He is as far from a republican as it is possible to be. He loves his status as a royal and has said he supports the monarchy as a concept. He would be King tomorrow if the stars aligned I’m sure. How does that fit in with being a republican? Would you accept Harry as your monarch?

CoffeeCantata · 27/07/2024 21:41

TicTacToes · Today 21:27

I am utterly baffled by your assertion that you like Harry!

I just can't conceive why. He's grumpy, not very bright, not very handsome*, has some awful stuff in his background (punching the Foo Fighters drummer and one of his security people too, throwing girls into a pool against their will at a party, his Nazi cosplay, disregard for the welfare of his polo ponies (apparently wearing spurs is frowned on in polo - yet he does it), telling horrible stories in Spare about persecuting a disabled matron at school, shagging an older woman behind a pub, tracking his father's car as a terrorist might, calling someone at Sandhurst a racist name.....how long have you got?

Shouting at Buck House staff that 'what Meghan wants, Meghan gets!'.

Please, please tell me why you like him - I genuinely can't understand it.

*I don't judge people's value by their appearance, but I'm trying to think of a reason why someone might like Harry in the face of all the bad stuff.

I always have. Of course I respect his right to his opinions and worldview even if I don’t share his belief in the Monarchy.

He is far from perfect though. 😉

I have a forgiving nature and come from a military background and was married to a soldier. He is really someone who is well thought of in our circle.

TheWoodlanders · 27/07/2024 21:46

@LeFromage does it matter to M15 whether Rory Stewart is an elected politician or not? Surely, with his connections and network he is still an asset?

TicTacToes · 27/07/2024 21:47

”He would be King tomorrow if the stars aligned I’m sure. How does that fit in with being a republican?”

I would continue with my republican views even if he were the king.

CoffeeCantata · 27/07/2024 21:49

TicTac - you ARE a very forgiving person!

For me, it's not so much the bad stuff I listed - I just cannot think of anything positive to say about him.

I do think that Chelsy and Cressida dodged a bullet there.

Harry is well thought of in the military? Which military?

Princess Di was a nut job and I absolutely love Queen Camilla.

LeFromage · 27/07/2024 23:25

CurlewKate · 27/07/2024 19:19

@LeFromage Ah. I am afraid you won't be able to get opinions or expertise on any subject if you are going to discount anyone who does not hold GC views. I do think it's a little misleading to categorise him as "not understanding safeguarding" though.

Ah. I am afraid you have attributed a label to my views I don’t identify with. I think it’s the lack of tribalism I like about RS. ActionAid and Save the Children campaign for single sex spaces in countries abroad due to the higher rates of sexual assaults on women and girls. AC disagrees with single sex spaces (just had a look at his Twitter account to see if he had changed his views- doesn’t appear so). That indicates to me he doesn’t understand safeguarding. It makes me less likely to consider his views on other topics as well-reasoned. www.independent.co.uk/life-style/women/sexual-assault-unisex-changing-rooms-sunday-times-women-risk-a8519086.html

Diana was cast by the Royal Family as the crazy ex wife. Some of the public believe this.

sausawyee · 27/07/2024 23:56

Unpopular opinion in certain sectors - Meghan has for years been playing the silly, flirty available little girl person. She has used sex to progress in her career in advertisements , bit part roles and TV. How embarrassing must it be to see assertions that her name was even linked with sex on a goodwill US Army trip. Poor Harry thinks he's special whereas he is just another guy.

keffie12 · 28/07/2024 00:07

@Likewhatever What a crock of sh*te. There is actually evidence out there for the racism against M, H, and the children.

Let's take this one to start; a picture of M and H with a monkey when Archie was born put out by Danny Baker. It was all over social media.

Actual evidence in papers of people racism and sent down for racism against them.

Then we have the head of the police extremism dept speaking out and saying they faced it on a daily basis. I've tried to find my video link on it. When I do, I'll be back to post it. He said M got daily threats due to racism whilst here.

We have had far-right extremists sent to prison for the threats on them. That was all over the news last year. There's been loads of those, too. Not just one case.

Let's not police officers sending racist and offensive text between each other on them. A link below

Go look up on Google Danny Baker and the monkey picture. Look up racism against M in the U.K. The biggest perpetrators of it have been the media.

H put out a statement from the Palace 2 weeks after he started seeing M calling out the media on the racist undertones. It's been happening since day one.

Here's one link. I'm not doing all the work for you. Just Google all the examples I've given. There are many more.

Reply if you wish. I won't be responding to you. I've not the time or the energy to get into a round about circle exchange. I've said my piece. What you have said either has a wind up or you simply don't know that what you said completely untrue.

Whichever

Another load of tosh. You will find that is actually, Catherine. You're either trolling or just believe everything you read.

Again, I'm not getting into an exchange with you. I'm calling out rubbish, and that's my lot. I've not the time or the energy to waste

@keffie12 you seem to have misunderstood the title of the thread 🙄😂

Littlepinkstarsbyradish · 28/07/2024 01:35

my unpopular RF opinion?
we dont usually believe that people can be born into a job/career
but when a member of the RF doesnt want to do it and resigns, the papers and public opinion hammer them for it
