Prince Philip was possibly a borderline racist. All those comments over the years.

Princess Ann is rude but also pleasant and an intelligent woman.

Prince William and his wife were consider lazy, workshy and somewhat dull. Then Meghan joined Harry and a rocket 🚀 exploded under them. Suddenly, they were competing and the press helped them by how they treated Meghan and Harry. Starting with the cost of renovating their first home and creating copper ‘Bathgate’.

Prince Andrew had his needs met through Epstein’s sex trafficking.

The Duchess of York is quite bonkers in a cute way.

Princess B and Princess E are nice.

Prince Edward and Sophie did all sorts of weird shit to get money. Eventually, they were brought in and now we are supposed to think they are wonderful and so supportive. They were paid to stop embarrassing the family.

King Charles is happiest in the garden or dreaming of being a tampon.

Queen Camilla likes smoking, dogs and horses, her grandchildren, reading, eating sweets and her husband.

Lady Di was loved by Charles but he couldn’t cope with her illnesses.

Harry watched everything and took it all in.

Meghan rescued Harry and he her. They have made a success of life post being the only royals with star quality. Except for Kate now, who raised her game, kept her own counsel, overtook everyone in the popularity stakes and won the hearts of many royalists and especially Daily Mail readers. And the posh crowd at Wimbledon. Since Christmas she has now achieved saint-like status has become untouchable.

There's no 'possibly' or 'borderline' about it Grin.

Did anyone see the Josh Widdicombe, fascinating ‘who do you think you are’ episode? He has a direct line from the Tudors. If Royalty is hereditary, the current one is pretty weak, short and not very direct.

Tbf the Tudor’s claim to the throne wasn’t the strongest! The king actually has direct Stuart ancestors through the QM

I am 62 and have been reading royal gossip for entertainment most of my life and I can't think of one thing they did that would qualify as 'weird shit' what do you mean?

I'm 42 and I remember the fake Sheikh!

@ApplesOrangesBananas yes she used to have a nose like her Mum but now it is completely different.

She has said herself on The Tig she inherited the Markle nose.

I like William, Harry and Wallis Simpson.

Megan would trip you to win first place in the egg on a spoon race

I adored Diana but believe she was crackers

Wallis Simpson was a Nazi. ConfusedHmm

Oh I never read that, tbh I never knew who she was until she married Harry as I’d never watched Suits.

I like Charles too.
My unpopular opinion is that Harry and William.are two cheeks of the same arse. Both of them want the perks of the job without putting in any work or having yo have any scrutiny about what they are doing. The difference is that Harry is irrelevant but we will be forced to have lazy arse William as head of state. I don't think he'll 'modernise the monarchy'at all. Just cling desperately to the last vestiges of it only changing if the alternative is his kids having to do ordinary jobs.

Edited

Agree with this.

W. is as petulant, workshy and entitled as Harold but those reviled grey men are doing the same sterling job for his image as they did for Harold (and look how that's gone now they're no longer there).

I think W will be our last 'king' not least because he's already showing his determination to do it "his way" and starting to make major balls-ups in the process.

See his condescending finger wagging on the environment and now the decision not to release his tax details. He's a feudal throwback and it's not going to wash for long.

sausawyee · 25/07/2024 10:18

@Likewhatever I guess she would have to say that as otherwise it could be picked on by some as denying her Nigerian heritage and changing those features to a showbiz suitable Westernised look. She wouldn't be the only WOC to do that - Beyoncé and J lo spring to my mind.

Also, while I'm at it: Diana had absolutely AWFUL taste in men! She seemed to fall for cads and in the end, a real sleaze-ball. Dodi, the creepy and very dodgy playboy. I just cannot fathom what the attraction was, but it killed her.

Not wearing a seatbelt and being driven into a wall by a drunk driver killed her, didn't it?
Edited to add "her"

sausawyee · 25/07/2024 10:22

I think Meghan looks very like her Mum when Doria was young.

That's a lovely photo.

Pookerrod · 25/07/2024 10:24

Diana was a terrible mother.

Who goes on TV and airs their dirty laundry regarding their marriage and husband knowing that their sons will be watching it at their boarding school?? How upsetting and humiliating for them!

jellybe · 25/07/2024 10:24

I think Diana was a terrible mum who put all her unmet emotional needs on to her young sons. I think that if she was still alive now she would be the MIL from hell and would be a nightmare with sharing stories about the grandkids with the press and on social media to try and keep herself relevant.

Cute! Although she does also look a bit like Thomas Markle.
Unpopular opinion: she should have done her homework on the RF, however Harry should have been a better husband and given her help and advice. Now I duck for cover! 😉

And through the Queen! Just not through the male line.

Also, Henry VII married Edward VI’s daughter to ensure his heirs were legitimately descended from the Plantagenets. The York branch of the Plantagenets also claimed seniority based on female line descent, so the Tudor line of succession becomes pretty legitimate after Henry VII.

I think both Charles and Diana were loving parents on one level (certainly better than they had experienced from their own parents, in terms of attention and warmth) but they were also very selfish as they put their own needs first.

Both went on tv to tell ‘their side’, both leaked their grievances: Neither seemed to have an understanding of how it would affect their two children.

I don't know whether this is a popular or unpopular opinion but I think this thread has become (and/or was possibly intended to be) a space for repeating unpleasant, unproven and, in some cases, absolutely batshit rumours about the RF and H&M under the excuse that "It's just my opinion".

My definitely unpopular opinion is that Andrew is not a paedophile.
He seems to be a very unpleasant and incredibly arrogant man and, imo, neither knew nor would have cared if he had known, that Virginia Giuffre was trafficked. I also doubt he knew her age (again, probably wouldn't have cared as long as she was over 16 - I know the age of consent varies in different countries but I doubt Andrew does).
That doesn't make him a paedophile and ignorant people throwing the terms "pedo", "nonce" or whatever around detracts from what an appalling offence true paedophilia is.

I agree with your point about Andrew, actually. He's a lot of deeply unpleasant things but based on the information we have, he's not a paedophile. He didn't care about women being trafficked or care what Epstein had done but that doesn't mean he's sexually attracted to children.

Yes. That is how lineage works. It’s a bit of a simplistic argument to say that the royals are not legitimately descended 🤷‍♀️

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 25/07/2024 11:05

My unpopular opinion is that the divide between K and W on the one hand and H and M on the other hand is not that great. Both couples are more similar to each other than they are to the older generation of dutiful ribbon-cutters. Recent comments from K about her modus operandi have actually sounded like the sort of thing M would say. Both couples seem to prefer the big glam events with celebs around and glitzy charity work. I blame Instagram for making the look of the thing more important than the thing in itself.

I think Camilla is a massive terf and posts on MN’s special feminist pages while drinking gin.

I think Kate’s on here too, reading all the conspiracy theories about her family and laughing while smoking.

If Megan’s here it’s only to see if she’s popular yet

Nearly spat my coffee out with the first one - love it!

My unpopular opinion - Charles is very charismatic in person. I had quite a bit to do with him at one point and he is very charming, quite sweet and really listens to you as if you are the only person in the room when you speak.

All the nonsense about Meghan using a surrogate is just nonsense. The obvious answer is that her "public" maternity clothes were probably tailored to fit a large bump so that there was some growing room. She probably used a small falsie to get them to hang right when she didn't quite fill them out. I imagine that it is quite common in "Hollywood" circles when clothes are ordered in advance and you don't know quite what size you'll be.

I think Kate is as dull as ditchwater.

If she was interesting and exciting she wouldn't have married William or wanted to be queen! She's pretty much perfect for the role.

LovePoppy · 25/07/2024 11:48

I think William is a petty, jealous little man

I don’t actually think it’s as complicated as that. Her posts on the Tig were full of darling Daddy comments. It was said affectionately. She didn’t know about her Nigerian heritage at that point.

I think she’s spent over 20 years trimming her personality to fit what the RF want.

It’s diametrically opposed to Diana who refused to change anything and fought constantly against what the RF wanted her to be.

TBH, whatever you think of them as individuals, Meghan’s response (of getting out) strikes me as the healthiest.
