Lady Colin Campbell has set up a fundraiser (via GoFundMe) for Thomas Markle’s 80th birthday. It’s already nearing £25,000 and has surpassed its £10,000 target 😮

Why would she do this? 🙄

Genuinely shocked by this. Do people really care about Thomas or is it just a massive fuck you to Meghan & Harry?

Just don't see why you'd need anywhere near £25k for a birthday celebration.

Apparently he has a lot of medical bills and isn't well.

I get the impression all of Meghan's family are...shall we say, 'difficult' people? So I have no axe to grind for her father, but on the face of it her treatment of him seems shocking. I agree it's a very provocative thing for Lady Colin Campbell to do, and is clearly designed to embarrass Meghan. But if this elderly and ailing man is in need of funds for medical bills, someone needs to step in.

I admit I'm not up-to-speed on just what M's father has ever done to deserve his complete abandonment by her but on the face of it his situation seems truly pathetic.

It is just that. Why does he need a fundraiser anyway, he can hardly be destitute after selling private correspondence to the media plus other things, and he has a good pension.

Lady Colin is a vile scandalmonger and stirrer.

Gods forbid that Lady Colin Campbell is out of the news for long. I think that is her motivation for helping Mr Markle and making such a spectacle of it.

I am not a big fan of the Duchess of Sussex, but I also happen to think that if a woman goes NC on a parent, there is usually a good reason for this.

Thomas Markle lives in Mexico, not the US. Medical procedures are much cheaper in Mexico. People will actually go there from the US to get work done. He lives in Mexico because it is much cheaper than the US for living expenses.

He is probably getting Social Security. As a former Hollywood lighting guy, he was probably in some kind of union, which would mean a pension. He did declare bankruptcy at some point. Not sure how that would affect the pension.

I'm not donating. I don't do GoFundMe unless I know the person behind it.
