Lady Colin Campbell has set up a fundraiser (via GoFundMe) for Thomas Markle’s 80th birthday. It’s already nearing £25,000 and has surpassed its £10,000 target 😮

Does the documentary explain why Meghan was publicly describing Harry’s family as “the family she never had” but had never even introduced her own Dad to Harry? This was before he had a heart attack and abandoned her, right?

Abouttimeforanamechange · 24/07/2024 14:28

well, she has explained enough in her documentary. He abandoned her.

How and when? She lived with him for much of her childhod and adolescence. He paid for her educstion, both school and university. Right up to the last minute, she was telling him he was invited to her wedding, and he was expecting to attend. When is this abandonment supposed to have happened?

Just don't see why you'd need anywhere near £25k for a birthday celebration.

Believe it is for his medical and living expenses.

LBFseBrom · 24/07/2024 14:57

He can afford to live reasonably well and have medical treatment. He has a good pension plus has made money from the media. He's not filthy rich but is not a poverty-stricken guy. There are far more worthy causes.

Meghan markle haters are absolutely obsessed with her. They crave her attention, it's like they're love sick or something. It drives them crazy that she won't acknowledge them.

It was the Sussex squad who started up a GoFundMe to pay the Sussexes mortgage in Montecito off, though. Which was, to my mind, equally cringe. Two sides of the same coin!

LightDrizzle · 24/07/2024 15:56

What a poisonous bigot she is. Hideous.

Abouttimeforanamechange · 24/07/2024 16:01

Which was, to my mind, equally cringe.

Or more so, given that the Sussexes have millions, and don't need to live in a sixteen bathroom mansion in one of the most expensive places in California, and those donating wouldn't have a minuscule fraction of the amount of money they have.

Serenster · 24/07/2024 16:04

True, but that goes to the point that those who set it up and contributed come across as obsessed and totally irrational!

She hates Meghan. Mind you I read her book about the Queen Mother and she didn't like her much either.

She has nice dogs is the only nice thing I can say about her.

I have always wondered why she gets so much air time - she really comes across as vile and hateful towards just about everyone. But she is on the next level with MM. This is just a shameful publicity push for her.

thisiswheretheseagullfliesaway · 24/07/2024 16:53

Both sides are all kinds of crazy. The Sussex Squad are unhinged but also are the anti Meghan crowd too. Fake children, voodoo, complaining about her hair, how she smiles, if she doesn't smile,if she smiles too much thousands of comments. There was even a comment a few days ago cautioning keeping George etc away from them incase they tried to murder them.

The Mirror and Campbell etc are making a fortune complaining about Harry and Meghan who are also making money complaining. It's not going to stop hatred and division is a multi million pound money spinner, nothing sells better than fighting it brings out the rubbernecker in people.

Of course they're not perfect but the media are still dragging up stories from 6 years ago to have a go.

LBFseBrom · 24/07/2024 10:33

It is just that. Why does he need a fundraiser anyway, he can hardly be destitute after selling private correspondence to the media plus other things, and he has a good pension.

Lady Colin is a vile scandalmonger and stirrer.

You said what I wanted to say but much more eloquently.

Believe it is for his medical and living expenses.

That makes more sense in terms of numbers, and obviously I'm sorry he's unwell.

I get the impression all of Meghan's family are...shall we say, 'difficult' people? So I have no axe to grind for her father, but on the face of it her treatment of him seems shocking. I agree it's a very provocative thing for Lady Colin Campbell to do, and is clearly designed to embarrass Meghan. But if this elderly and ailing man is in need of funds for medical bills, someone needs to step in.

I admit I'm not up-to-speed on just what M's father has ever done to deserve his complete abandonment by her but on the face of it his situation seems truly pathetic.

I imagine that every communication he had with his daughter resulted in him trying to monetize it. So why would she reach out to him? From what I understand she has him given a means to contact her if he needs help. He has chosen not to do that.

OhcantthInkofaname · 24/07/2024 18:13

JSMill · 24/07/2024 12:49

Has anyone asked him if he actually wants this? I thought there was some kind of public health insurance for senior citizens in the US?

There is Medicare. And he has at least two sources of pension, one from his movie employment and one from social security. I imagine he's better off than I am in the US. To keep this name in the news yeah he probably wants it. He has profited off of his daughter before and would do it again.

Serenster · 24/07/2024 18:21

Until she met Harry, Meghan was 100% using/exploiting her (presumably very much rose-tinted) relationship with her father to create content for The Tig. Until the wedding debacle. If Henry and Meghan get a pass to make money by telling all about how they have ben treated, surely the same applies to Thomas Markle? You don’t have to like any of their conduct in that regards.

I thought he lived in Mexico.

It seems similar to how the RF must feel about communicating with Harry and Meghan.

What percentage of that money is Lady Colin Campbell getting? I smell a scam but people who dislike MM regularly fall for it. Well, you know what they say about a fool and their money. I'm sure they will be doing this yearly given that they have raised so much. It's actually a good scam, kudos to them, enjoy that money!

Why do you believe that? It is not what the fundraiser says.

They can live wherever they choose.
Just because you don’t approve, doesn’t mean they have to live in a one bedroom one bathroom apartment in Tustin.
lol

Surely she can then pay for it herself? I'm really shocked by this, and no fan of H&M but it makes me start to wonder about if some of the things might be true that they've said

LBFseBrom · 31/07/2024 10:56

I'm pretty sure they are true, Chrsytalchondalier .

Thomas Markle would not have been 'abandoned' had he not sold a private letter from his daughter to the press. That was a dreadful thing to do. I had some sympathy for him (still do as he is an old, sick man), as he was initially manipulated by the media. Meghan and Harry were still wanting him in their lives at that stage, reached out their hands and offered to fly him out to escape all the media, but he lied to them and then went too far with that letter.

He is not destitute, will have a decent pension and has made money from the media which is likely to happen again from time to time.

Lady CC is a muck-raking scandal-mongering individual.

That’s certainly the narrative Meghan and Harry want people to believe. However, they’ve both been revealed in the courts to be happy to lie to promote their desired narratives, so it may not be the whole story.

(My own personal view is that Meghan wrote the letter to her father to set out the story she wanted to be made known, fully intending it to be published. I thought this before we knew from her text messages to Jason Knauff that she had specifically drafted it mindful that it may become public, and added specific phrases to tug on a reader’s heartstrings - that evidence did tend to confirm my opinion. She probably expected Thomas Markle to release it to the press immediately as he’d be so angry at what it said. Unfortunately however, he didn’t. So after getting tired of waiting she constructed the “Five friends independently contacted People magazine” story, in which they all conveniently knew and spoke about the details of this private letter to her father. And she waited to see if that would provoke him to action. And so it finally did).

LCC is a nasty piece of work. She doesn't seem to like anyone

The irony of LCC saying that Meghan and Harry should drop their titles is highly amusing given her grasping onto her ex husband of decades ago's title
